This movie was really hard to watch. Steven King is famous for his corny cliches and hammy dialogue and this film delivered all the way. The characters, with the exception of Fred Gwynn-Who must have winced every time he had to say "dead is better..." were boring and wooden. The child who played Ellen Creed was the most annoying. I am just glad I didn't waste good money seeing this film at a theater. I found it stupid, corny, and all around not fit for an intelligent mind, but then again, that's how I find most of King's films. And I don't care for the way he exploits the killing of children in his films either. Where does that come from? Maybe if he gave up the drinking and drugs, he'd come up with something good for a change.
This movie was horrible the first time around, with dumb little side stories like the housekkeeper's suicide and the bed-ridden sister. Neither had any contributing reason to be added to the plot. But I have to say, this remake is the worst! Could not get into these wooden characters, and the storyline was changed all around. Steven King tends to write corny novels with corny dialogue, probably due to his drinking and drugging days but whoever rewrote this isn't any better. The days of decent writing have gone to the cemetery and they AREN'T coming back. Sometimes dead IS better.
There is not much more I can say that hasn't already been said about this dreadful remake with the exception of one last comment...It stinks so bad, even holding your nose doesn't help. The acting of Vince Vaughn and Anne Hesch is a disgrace, and it was obvious in the way they delivered their lines that they knew it too. A word to all the movie makers of the world who think it's a great idea to do a film over again. There is absolutely NO need to remake a movie other than the fact that you have run out of good writers, good stories and/or ideas. You can pretty much count on one hand the number that have turned out better than their original. Most of the actors of today can't hold a candle to the greats of yesterday. If it ain't broke, DON'T try to fix it! You'll just come out embarrassed, and we'll have wasted our money.
