The Love Witch comes off as a homage movie to the witch/vampire movies of the early 70s, almost everything feels late 60s/early 70s, in this way this movie is shot, the use of zooming and the lightning, the same goes for the nice sounds and music. Even so, this story is actually set in present day, occasionally you will see a smartphone and a modern BMW among a few other things. I would rather seen that the movie was set in early 70s since it looks and feels very retro. When it comes to the story it suffers from a mediocre script , and it's just a little too lengthy, they should had kept it at 90 minutes, not 120.
The acting comes of for the most parts as awkward, except the star of this movie the love hungry witch Samantha Robinson she absolutely nails it in this femmen fatale role. But overall, The Love Witch comes of as more style than substance, it a gorgeous movie for us who loves the retro style, but it's definitely not a movie for everyone, probably only a very few. But I'm looking forward to see what director Anne Biller has more to come in the future, hope she continuous with these kind of retro movies.

After two decent movies made with the same director and writer you would think that this would be awesome like its predecessors, wrong! Pretty much everything is messed up in this movie. The biggest problem is probably the poor writing, what was the purpose? Why and what's going on? I have no idea what I've just watched, there is little to none explanation. I find this is kind of odd thinking that this is made by the same filmmakers that made Maniac Cop 1 and 2, two movies that has a rather easy and straightforward plot, the whole movie feels rushed and unfinished. There is not much good to say about this movie, even Cordell reacts unnatural compared with MC 1 and 2, but it does have some neat fire stunts. Anyway, a disappointing and by far the weakest movie in the Maniac Cop trilogy.
Back in the days when I was younger I used to hate this movie, I loved watching the Halloween movies with Sam Loomis and Michael Myers, since Season of the Witch had none of them, I didn't even try to like it. Most of this film criticism probably comes from this fact that this has nothing to do with to first two movies, it's not even a slasher movie. It's about this evil mastermind and his mask-making company who plans to kill millions of American children with something mystical hidden inside the popular Halloween masks. Dan O'Herlihy who plays the villain is great and so is Tom Atkins (one of the more underrated Horror/Action stars out there). I think the story is nice and original and fits the Halloween theme well. The Score is great and contributes to create a haunting atmosphere. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch deserve a identity of it's own, having witch in the title is confusing as well since there ain't no witches either. But this isn't a bad movie, nothing really horrible about it, give it a go.
