The title was intriguing so we decided to give it a go. Sadly, as soon as it started we could see it was cheaply-produced and further viewing showed it to be not very good. It was rather cliched even for its time and it was one of those films which looked as though it may have been made with TV in mind rather than a cinema release. Ian McShane as the 'mummy's boy' was a typical thriller trope and it was left to the police officers to inject some much-needed life into the proceedings. To be honest in the end it was quite a relief to see the final credits roll and we won't be recommending this film to our friends.
We liked the sound of this and watched it over two nights. It started off intruigingly, with some odd goings-on and an air of mystery, but then we began to meet characters who were interesting in themselves but without any info about who they were. Just exactly who was the old woman in the shack, and who exactly was the large Indian woman and what was she up to? Much was left to interpretation and in the end nothing happened, leaving us deeply un-satisfied. Yet another movie that plays with the viewers emotions without any real substance behind it, which seems to be an increasingly common thing these days.
Not impressed at all. I tried to keep up with it but by episode three I'd more or less lost interest amid too many characters and too many goings-on and just let it wash over me. What was the point of the Steve Pemberton character, as I couldn't see how he was connected to anything else in the plot - or was he there just to provide some creepiness?
The kidnapped woman sawed easily through her handcuffs in about three seconds and the hostages in the barn were freed without effort with the touch of a magic axe on their chains. It's a 2 from me. Which serves it right for wasting 5 hours of my life.
