While I absolutely loved Christopher Reeve, this film is better than all of the Superman movies he did put together! The reason I say that is, it was filmed in the perfect time period for it's genre in my opinion... The technology of 2006 far surpassed the 70's & 80's Superman films of course, but it ALSO looked more real and not "over-done" like so many of TODAY'S films. The newer Superman movies look SO FAKE with the over-the-top computerized effects. They just don't look REAL like this one does. I also thought that Brandon Routh had Chris Reeve's appearance AND demeanor, which is very, VERY difficult to replicate. Kevin Spacey was even better than Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor too. The story and the whole movie from start to finish was better than the others as well. So I don't get the dislike for this one!
I'm surprised this movie isn't talked about more!! Because compared to the garbage Hollywood churns out now, this movie is spectacular!! It reminds me of 2 other movies that I love... The 1993 "Three Musketeers" and 1998's "The Man in the Iron Mask." But this is of no surprise, as ALL THREE-- including "The Count of Monte Cristo," of course-- were written by the same man, Alexandre Dumas! And all three made for EXCELLENT movies! The only reason I didn't give this a 10 out of 10 is because I felt the prison scenes went on for too long. But other than that, I liked everything about this movie. Jim Caviezel was so handsome in this and Guy Pearce was great as a villain as well. This is also one of the last performances of Sir Richard Harris too, so this was a really great cast! They just don't make movies like this anymore, which is a real shame. But all 3 of the Alexandre Dumas books that were turned into movies are not only worth seeing, but are some of the best films I've ever seen!
