I'll caveat this by saying I haven't played the game, so had no idea what the storyline would be or who the characters are.

As a series, it was an interesting idea, but pretty standard storyline. Nothing too surprising.

The acting was generally okay and the special effects were good.

But episodes tended to drag out. I could see why they tried to build the story, but sometimes it was just too long, and sometimes missed the mark.

Good solid shallow entertainment, that could have been so much better of it delved into character development, deeper stories, perhaps more science around the fungus to make it more believable (instead of just a play on zombies), and didn't branch into stupidly costumed monsters that didn't actually make sense.

This film is obviously divisive.

There are those who complain it didn't show the scenery, or had bad acting, or unlikeable lead. It's unfortunate none of those things is what the film was about. It could have focused on the scenery, showing every beautiful vista or building along the way. It could have used all actors rather than some actual pilgrims and real people along the way. It could have had a very likeable person as lead. And the movie would have failed its objective.

The reason the movie has an unlikeable lead is because that's who he was - a self-absorbed, arrogant, difficult person (did you miss one of the last scenes with him on the phone to his wife?).

The story focused almost exclusively on his character, and how he 'grew'. And I believe it did a pretty good job of that, even down to him questioning if he was ready to complete the journey when he was within spitting distance of the end.

He basically had an epiphany towards the end - thus meeting the objective of growth.

There were some parts that could have been done better. But overall a good movie.

So the start makes it pretty clear that there's been a plane crash. But no indication as to why he was there (the plane didn't seem to have any cargo) and why he was flying solo.

This pilot seems to have great survival skills, able to fish in an area that his plane crashed onto, and seems to have all the equipment to survive but none of the equipment you'd expect a plane to have.

It appears he's drawing a map (doesn't seem to have one even as a pilot).

When the others turn up (no spoiler here) they have maps but their equipment doesn't seem to be of any use.

At times he seems to have one sled, and other times he has two. And although his face is never covered he's not suffered any frostbite on his nose etc.

And what's with the ending? Did they live? Did they die?

Very disappointing movie, with great scenery good acting, and some good survival bits.
