Classic is a classic for a reason
Out of nowhere in the blazing summer, I wanted to watch this Christmas classic. It does not matter how many times I watch 'Miracle on 34th Street', I still get engrossed in the story all over again. All the happenings in the courtroom are truly ludicrous 'myth and fantasy', but at that moment, my heart just melts, and my brain turns off.
Did Macy's fund this film?
The funny thing is that as I get older, I get to understand 'Shopping Express' better and to empathize with it more and more. In the management and financial perspective, 'Shopping Express' is the smarter and even more 'moral' firm than Cole's. It does not put all the eggs of investments and expectations in one basket especially when that factor is unstable and unexpected. More importantly, if the same product is sold in the Shopping Express at half price, Cole's is overpricing the customers based on its brand value and on specificity of the season. Cole's is not a hero, and Shopping Express is not a villain anymore to me.

Starting each season is hard, but finishing it is freaking exciting. At the beginning of each season, 'Boardwalk Empire' lays out all the new characters and backgrounds, so the first two episodes are a familiarization period. It seems slow and confusing because the series is not particularly friendly. There are so many characters, and it's confusing who's who. It takes a while to figure out power dynamics among people or gangster groups even though it's the most important factor in the series because it is always ambiguously portrayed. However, the last three episodes absorb the audience with thrilling and solid stories and rush them at such a fast pace that it's hard to stop. Till season three, I could've given eight stars, but season four stars to slacken and lose tightness
It's funny that all characters' dream goal is to be a good father and to leave something for the next generation. They all turn out to be the worst kind of father and tell him, "I did all this for you, son." when that son did not want any of it in the first place. Clear, thorough, and loud message from 'Boardwalk Empire'.

I have no knowledge of the stock market or investment. I have no idea what's going on in this movie for 100 minutes, so it's obviously hard for me to connect with it. However, it's not entirely the movie's fault. 'Margin Call' tries to explain the beginning of the 2008 financial crisis in our daily language as much as possible. The characters in the movie, all finance experts, repeat something like "Explain to me in English." or "I don't know how to read these things.", so they do not have to use jargon, economic theory, or financial reading of the charts.
Even though I didn't fully enjoy the storyline or content, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the movie. The tension, the drama, the politics are well delivered to the audience. Everything has to happen before the sunrise. With the time limit, everything gets tenser and tighter. I was engaged to figure out what choice characters would make at the end and to feel what they feel such as emptiness, hopelessness, guilt, fear, vanity, and selfishness. Actors do a good job of delivering those complicated emotions with balance.
