I've waited quite a while to watch this, in this era of box set I just can't do the "weekly" thing.. luckily for me and you it was worth the wait.. A brilliant remake.. BUT I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with the vast majority. I'm not going to blame the actress Lashana Lynch. She probably knows her limitations. But whoever cast her needs to find something else to do. They very nearly ruined the whole show. At times because Eddie Redmayne was playing the role of the jackal so brilliantly, when Lashana (Bianca) was in the next scene it actually made me angry.. I've still given it a 9, but that's thanks to the great story and brilliant acting of Eddie and the others ( particularly enjoyed Norman ((Richard dormers ))cameo). Despite the criticism it's a show well worth watching. A highly trained assassin, with a good backstory, the thrills and spills keep you on the edge of your seat.
Reading some of the reviews here and had to give my opinion, because people may miss out on a terrific watch. It may just be some people are just expecting too much from these shows, but if you fancy a few hours watching great acting by great (don't have to be popular) characters, plenty of storylines to get on with, drama, violence, emotion, scenery, and escape from city life, then please don't miss out. Don't watch it to compare to other shows. View territory on its own merits. From the very start it grips and the thrills and spills don't end to the very last scene, and as the credits rolled, I'm sat here thinking please get season 2 out as quick as possible. I'm already missing this fabulous entertaining show.
It's very occasional an original gem just drops out of nowhere. Eric is certainly one of those. I didn't really know how to feel at times, I wanted to love characters but kept changing my mind, only to change it back again. It's a deep dark drama at times and puppets at others. Some of the imagined things, in other shows you couldn't take seriously, but in Eric you just accept. Benedict cumberbatch is his usual mesmerising best as Vincent. A puppet genius alcoholic father to Edgar brilliantly played by Ivan Morris Howe and ably supported by mum Gaby Hoffman. The story deals with many issues of the time a lot of which still exist. But mostly leave you satisfied with the outcome. It's good to see legendary wire actors Clarke peters and John doman still around. And every now and then a classic 80's tune has you tapping your feet as well. If you can't decide whether to watch Eric or not. My advise. Give it a go. It's different it's entertaining and somewhere along the line you will identify with the problems faced by one of the actors. Very enjoyable.
