I'm not quite sure how I started watching this series. I'm not particularly drawn to medical drama, let alone end-of-life drama. But once I started watching I began to appreciate the unusual series.
The show tackles end-of-life with neither a careless nor sensationalist approach. Instead, it seems a very practical assessment.
Each episode focuses primarily on a particular hospice "client" facing death. We see a snapshot of life, viewed while at death's door. I'm personally not 100% sold on hospice (though I definitely appreciate compassionate professionals willing to support both the dying and their families) but I appreciate how the series emphasizes the value of each life, the joys and challenges and the reality of strained relationships, joys AND regrets.
To me the hallmark of good entertainment is that it does more than merely entertain but leaves ones with thoughts to ponder that impact us in "real life". I found myself considering my own interactions and life trajectory.

The main character is great. At first glance, he's just a big biker dude with a "don't mess with me" demeanor but as the story unfolds one comes to admire his simple trust and simple desire to do good, despite whatever he "was". I don't think I'm the target audience (I can barely tell the difference between a Harley and a Honda and the only bike I ride has pedals) but this series pulled me in. The lead manages to bring a down-to-earth authenticity rare in drama or real life.
The supporting actors in each episode (who vary each episode as the lead travels into new places) are less consistent in my view.
The "flashbacks" are compelling and each episode gives a slightly fuller glimpse of his past. But the matter-of-fact way he simply tries to earnestly share the greatest news ever is the best feature of this series. I stumbled across this and found myself engaged and interested to see how his story develops and even a bit challenged to adopt such an earnest and refreshingly direct approach in my interactions with "strangers".
Put this on your watch list.

I started this movie not quite sure if I'd finish. The cover photo looked a bit ... hokey to me and the trailer didn't quite reveal whether it would be roll-the-eyes or good. I was pleasantly surprised. While the opening scenes focus on a couple the bulk of the movie really isn't so much about a relationship as it is about life.
I concur with the sentiment one of the characters expressed "there are no coincidences" yet personally I strongly dislike fiction that transforms everything into a complete implausible fairy land. This movie did a great job of weaving in lives and connections for a reason yet without tying up every stray end in an impossible way. The plot worked.
The leads played their roles well and came across authentic to me. The main female lead had her obvious character flaws which I appreciated.
We all have a spiritual journey and hopefully learn truth through what we live, including what we suffer. The gems of wisdom from older characters were especially nice and without giving the story line away I left this movie mulling over one such comment about opening up our hands to receive, and to learn in the long waiting periods of life when we do not yet have or see that for which we long. For me, a movie that conveys compelling truth in a delightful and engaging way is worth 9 stars.
