Everyone wants to buy Sheila Bromley's timberland, but she won't do it without the agreement of her uncle, whom she's never met; he's her partner and on his way from England. So when a stranger shows up and is promptly murdered, everyone thinks at first that it's the old fellow. Then Jameson Thomas shows up with wife Dorothy Bradshaw; the murdered man is his secretary. This sets Mountie sergeant Edgar Edwards' investigation back, but with the help of the mrudered man's dog, Rin-Tin-Ting Jr., success is assured.
It a well set-up mystery, although there is some playing fast and loose with feeding the evidence to the audience in a timely fashion. And it's clearly a very cheap production. That's because it's one of those movies that Columbia financed in British Columbia with mostly Empire subjects to qualify as a quota quickie. Frank MacDonald directs for speed without any of his trdemark good humor. The result is an undistinguished film.

Here's a movie from Famous Studios in which bits and pieces from old cartoons are recycled to new purposes. Nominally a travelogue, it is a series of bits lifted from older cartoons in a blackout gag format, from Detroit's auto factories, to the Mississippi River, to Mexico, with stops in between.
It was a familiar format for cartoons for many years. Even though real travelogues were disappearing from new offerings by the studios, they persisted for a while as they were kept at exchanges for those shrinking number of theaters which offered a feature and selected short subjects.
