You clearly can see what Gunn is doing right. He didn't gave us another, boring originstory movie. He throws us in a world where Superman already is working. Pretty similar to The Batman.

Introducing us to new characters we haven't seen in the silver screen before and it works.

He's doing the DC thing with a pinch of Marvel but in his own, unique way. It's a movie for both: people who like comic movies but never read a single comic. And those who do read or did read comics. Oh and the third one, like me, who read specific comics and graphic novels and inhaled all the animated Warner Bros animated DC TV shows and animated movies in the past 30 years.

Example, without major spoilers: when superman asks himself a question everyone from group B and C will know which character he is referring to: the part-time member.

Group A will understand nothing at all until a tiktok real will show them in 2030 what Gunn was referring to.

We even got some chameos which directly do lead to a Justice League movie.

All characters are well written. No matter if it's Perry, GL, Hawkgirl or especially Lex Luthor. Even Superman's parents are stunning. Not a single character you would say they didn't think about how to put him in the story or the actors didn't do their best.

Only thing which felt strange has been that musical Guardians of the Galaxy moment. Was it fun? Well, I don't know. It felt like Gunn forced that scene into the script/movie. It felt really cringe. It's maybe his style but absolutely not necessary for this movie at all.

Second thing that was off was the ever returning Superman Theme from John Williams. I love that theme. But why not making something more unique? The composers did well in bringing in their own styles while here and there even a pinch of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman could be heard in a more subtle way.

But all in all you clearly can see that this movie had a finalized script and they did gave the FX teams the time they needed, Studio and producers gave Gunn the creative free space he needed to give us a finally good comic movie after End Game.

When they did everything wrong.

Well, there's always a problem with video game adaptions. Only a few can compete to their origin.

This one: no exception. They did try to fake the trailer as a Guardians of the Galaxy sort-of-movie. But we're no longer in the late 90s and early 2000s. The generic audience isn't interested in movies and (potential) franchises they never heard of. No matter which AAA actors they use. On the other hand there are the fans of the videogames who know and love the games and see at first glance that the movie is nothing about their beloved game and won't watch the flick.

But wait! There is more! This movie is also technically a disaster! A director who has no idea of what he's doing, awful music, an awful editing with so many cuts nobody knows what they want to show - which destroys just the remaining try of showing a story. And the actors? In general they're all good. But you can see that they don't know what they're doing.

Honestly: After Doom, Tomb Raider (Jolie), Alone in the Dark, Warcraft, Assassin's Creed and all those other movies I really have to ask: when will Hollywood learn and stop trying to build up franchises on video games?

Videogames became (interactive) movies a long time ago. And nowadays with all that nice graphics even on consoles you don't need that kind of movies anymore - as if they were ever needed.

In a world of prequels and frenchise universes this movie has been one I didn't wait for or did expect.

Especially after the 2006 Omen remake.

The story is not full of surprises. We always heard of Damian's birth, his real mother, the jackal. Now asome creative people wrote the story and brought it to life.

What to say? It's what you expect in the year 2024. But wait. It's more. Or better said: less!

It's a modern flick but in the style of the 70s. No jump scares. Just a good horror stories told in a decent way. The first death scene was something I haven't seen in a long time. An unexpected kind of killing and dying. But even more impressive. Not the usual "He's dead Jim" bloody jump scare death. More a "what the heck!? Really?" scene which keeps you mouth wide open.

And the movie continues this style of story telling and unexpected kills and how the people die. All in time without rush.

All in all this movie is doing things right other modern franchises are missing. A good story, people with patience and creativity who gave us something familiar from the past in times we only rush threw life.
