The plot line moves along very slow in every episode, but for the most part, it's pretty good. What I am always looking for is a series I can enjoy every time I watch it. In this case, the series fails miserably. You just can't generate a fantasy that is inconsistent with itself. The "mini series" is all about Merlin learning how to use his powers so he can help defend Arthur and Camelot. In this, the series succeeds. It builds up to a dramatic climax and delivers probably the worst ending imaginable. I won't divulge the ending, but the ability for the plot line to end differently was programed into the story. As a Pendragon direct descendent, I will never watch this series again.
This may not be regarded as a fair review, but this movie kept me in the kind of tension I don't desire at all. It left me feeling very uncomfortable. I did not see it in the Theater, for which I am very glad, but I digress. In my 70+ years as a real movie fan, I have never seen a movie that made me feel so uncomfortable. Watched it with my wife, and at about the 70 min mark, I turned to her and asked "had enough?" and she said " I'm not entertained". My response was I feel exactly the same way. My expectations were so high as I have enjoyed all the Mission Impossible movies up to this point. Had I had been watching it in the theater, it would have been the third movie I ever walked out of. I will not bother to see part 2!
It is an entertaining movie, but the whole concept of having a submersible drilling platform is galactically stupid. The risk is extraordinary compared to doing everything from surface.....not to mention that a production platform would have to be set if they found any oil or gas....so why be down there with a submersible rig in the first place? Hollywood intelligence at its finest. Not science fiction, but ficticious science. If you can set aside the concept of actual reason, the movie is worth watching. What the crew discovers at the bottom of the ocean alone is reason enough to watch the movie. But in order to have a truly good science fiction movie, it has to be believable. Oddly enough, the fiction part is believable! The submersible drilling platform is not even close. And yes, I've worked offshore.
