Still couldn't able to believe that upendra managed to make a film like this that too in 1998.
This film is still fresh and as unique as it could be!
A shattered filmmaker who deteriorated mentally decides to make a film where he have to face the consequences of his past. That's how it goes but when you reach the climax it's not what you thought it would be.. What a performance by Uppi and other cast.
Screenplay was just fire from the beginning till the end there was no lag that I could notice since I was awestruck by the pace of screenplay.
Now I'm convinced that he's one of a kind. An artist like upendra is a perfect blessing to any industry.
Special mention to the music director of the movie. His Songs and BGM work were easily noticeable in this film.

What was so special about the kannada movie OM?
When a movie tanks at the box office, you can give a hundred reasons. But if a movie exceeds expectations and becomes a cult film, it's hard to explain why. Come to think of it. Om (1995 film) is not really an exceptional movie. An innocent, Brahmin boy is seduced by a sassy girl, with retribution on her mind. However, the boy turns into a deadly gangster and begins stalking the girl. In between, you have all types of shady, slimy characters in the movie. And yes, three real-life gangsters "acted" in the movie, the first of its kind in the Indian film industry!
Now coming to the "special part." Traditionally, Rajkumar's production house, Vajreshwari Combines, was well known for producing family movies. Om was a departure from the norm. The production house was cautious about a movie that involved heavy doses of violence. The director, a scrawny guy named Upendra, had directed just two movies: Tharle Nan Maga, an adult comedy, and Shhh! (film), a suspense thriller. He had written a screenplay based on the oil mafia in Bangalore. The protagonist of the film, Satya, was an amalgamation of several gangsters from the Bangalore underworld. Rajkumar's brother Varadanna noticed Upendra's potential and persuaded Parvathamma to produce the movie (It's still young).
The movie was given an adult certification and was released in May 1995. Some critics were appalled by the level of violence and wondered how Vajreshwari Combines could produce such a movie. Despite naysayers, Om swept the box office and filled the coffers of the production house. Whenever there is a paucity of films in theatres in Bangalore, especially around K G Road, they screen Om for a week or two and make a decent profit. I am unsure how many times the movie was re-released (500 times is the official figure). Last year, Om was given a wider release with technological upgradations and it topped the box office for that particular week! Until recently, the movie was not released in DVD or on television, a rarity in the Internet era. Surprisingly, there is only a poor copy available on torrents.
Om influenced plenty of Kannada directors. The lead actor, Shivrajkumar, became synonymous with gangster movies. Most of his movies after Om belonged to this genre. There was a spike in the number of gangster movies, and none of them managed to replicate Om's magic. Until Mungaru Male was released in 2006, a majority of Kannada movies were gangster movies. Even now, when a gangster movie is released, it's invariably compared with Om.
It was indeed a special movie, for it was directed by one of the best film makers in the world, Upendra. It was a gangster movie, one of its kind, that wasn't explored in Kannada industry that well till then.
For the sake of the movie, the story that was about underworld mystery, Upendra brought in realistic factor by asking the real-life underworld dons to act in it. Bekkinakannu Rajendra, Korangu Krishna, Tanveer Ahmed, and Jedarahalli Krishna were some of the gangsters who acted in the movie.
The movie was re-released for a whopping 632 times, which is an All-time record in the history of Indian cinema.
For 75 times out of the 632 re-releases, the movie ran for more than 100 days.
In 2015, the TV rights of the movie wa ssold out for a whopping 10cr, highest for a Kannada movie (then) even after 20 years of its release.
The movie collected 25cr at the box office, which was the highest for a Kannada movie back then.
The songs of the movie were legendary and the story was quite unique as well. Thanks to the execution, it turned out to be a perfect gangster movie back then.
It's a cult classic movie in Kannada film industry.
