This is not a review to spoil anything
.. I just got back from seeing in 3d and it was as good as I expected...the suspense was masterful, the effects were great, I feel like some of the more brutal reviews for it are more expecting maybe something...I expected a crazy thrill ride of a creature feature and was definitely not disappointed..the script was well done and it was directed with the level of suspense, scare and even a bit of fun camp that it needed.. Scarlett Johansson was very good, Mahershala Ali who is carrying the heart with his character, we get a bit of ed skrein who is kinda in that neutral feeling character, Rupert friend was a magnificent a hole.. all in all recommend.
I want to say I know there are moments that a lot of people including the director Sam raimi regrets but to me ...this was just a great fun scary movie..yes the later series went more horror comedy after this but to me this and the later on also called evil dead which I guess is a reimagining or kinda remake of this were more my cup of tea...at times unnecessarily brutal and a bit more gore than I usually like but overall it does it's job to make you jump from the scares..raimi uses the camera as almost a character as we get some unique pov shots while never seeing what the creature or whatever it is looks like, Bruce Campbell was good, I think he was built to do movies like this I mean the later movies of the franchise play to his humor and physical ability to do more of a physical comedy while keeping the theme very dark.
So...first off I post a review on here very rarely and the ones I have thus far are more towards b movies and silly but fun irrelevant movies...I got into this movie from an ex of mine and she was dead on that it was just funny, I mean I love British humor as I'm a huge fan of Monty python, red dwarf and anything Stephen fry or Hugh Laurie did back in the day....that said if any of those strike a vibe and you liked then more than likely you will like this too. The cast is very good Martin freeman, zooey Deschanel and Sam Rockwell are great, the late Alan rickman voices a rather suicidal robot with depression issues and we get a great cameo from John malkovich, the one cast member who surprised me in a good way was the now formerly known as Mos Def, I was a fan of them as an music artist and found their work in this movie to be great and it made me wish we got more output from them
Anyway great adaptation of the novel...go watch.
