I've always thought of Elizabeth Wurtzel as a spineless, self centered, indignant, ungrateful, inane and silly twit. And this movie portrayel of this "tortured soul" does nothing to improve my image of her. She should have quit while she was ahead and never wrote such a piece of crap as "Prozac Nation" in the first place.
Nearly every teen in some way or another goes what she went through. No, not everyone is a product of divorce, etc...but everyone at one time or another feels isolated and distant from others. She had every gift in the world coming at her...talent, an overly concerned parent, medical help, a psychiatrist, and friends that tried to get through to her. Yet, she chose to shun them all and play the victim. Well, boo hoo hoo you juvenile worthless piece of trash.
Man, do I hope ol' Wurtzel is down on the skids again. Let's just hope she never takes pen to paper again. I yie yie.
And I can't believe Christina Ricci wanted a part of this movie, enough to not only star in it and and overact, but to produce this hunk of garbage? No wonder we haven't seen so much of her on the big screen since the late 1990s.
Don't even give this movie 10 minutes of your time.

This film taught me a lot about human nature, and about having such ardent hope amid such dire conditions. The protagonist/narrator Cassandra played excellently by Ramola Garai turns in a tour-de-force performance as a sometime gawky & awkward teen who despite her naiveté is so wise behind her years when dealing with people and affairs of the heart.
The movie made me laugh, cry and gave me hope that no matter how bad things can get, life will somehow work itself out if you have faith, a good head on your shoulders and believe in those close to you.
I'm glad I recorded this on TiVo. This is one movie I don't think I'll ever delete. I highly recommend this movie for its simple lessons and its picturesque scenery.

Yet another movie that should only be shown on Lifetime Television for Women. A woman in distress has to seek out some sort of healing because she cannot live in the modern world with al of its "toxins." Julianne Moore, although not a household name in 1995, is a better actress than to portray a feckless and helpless ditz who trundles through life with all the grace of a dodo bird. Certainly there was a better role for her take on that year and this train wreck.
The only message that I got from this movie was to turn it off--but I ignored the message and ended up sitting through it, watching one lame duck after another complain about self-healing and environmental stress. Geez, it was about as interesting as the E! True Hollywood Story on Tori Spelling.
Do yourself a favor and skip this clunker.
