I found the Materialists way too cliche and the main actress, Dakota Fanning to not be interesting at all.
That in itself caused the entire movie to fall flat, and become a monotone dialog with no hints of love or of the motivation to the meaning in the story. Read the other reviews here, and you'll see a pattern.
The entire relationship became transactional, and "materialistic" which I suppose was the purpose of writing it this way, but I don't think the message got translated to the screen because of the inability of the actors to convey the underlying message.
This movie had a ton of promise, but unfortunately it was less than the sum of its parts.
I think if they had a better actress playing the leading role that was able to translate the unwritten message of this movie, it could have been great.
Overall, it was mehh. Very boring and forgettable.

Washington Black really caught me off guard-in the best way. It's got everything I love in a series: science, tech, social justice, and a little romance.
The story pulls you in and keeps you thinking. It doesn't talk down to the audience, and the characters actually feel like real people, not just plot devices. There's a depth to it, but it's still totally watchable and entertaining.
If you're into shows that mix brains with emotion and don't follow the same old predictable formula, give this one a shot. It's something different-and it works.

Guy Ritchie's Fountain of Youth should've stayed buried.
It's like someone put all his signature moves into a blender, hit purée, and forgot to add a plot. Predictable from start to finish - I've had GPS directions with more twists.
The characters talk a lot but somehow say nothing, and the emotional range here makes a toaster look deep. It's all style, no soul, like a designer jacket with the hanger still in it. If this is the secret to eternal youth, I'll take aging, thanks.
Guy Ritchie's Fountain of Youth plays like a greatest-hits album of his past work - except all the good songs are missing. The plot is so predictable I could've written the ending halfway through, and the script feels like it was generated by an AI trained on cocky one-liners and zero emotional depth. Characters strut around acting clever, but there's nothing behind the smug smirks. It's like watching mannequins reenact a heist movie. The film tries hard to look sharp, but ends up feeling hollow and weirdly lifeless. If this is the secret to immortality, I'll age in peace - at least boredom won't be eternal.
