I love Sap. And I love John Wayne. I'd rather see a "sappy" John Wayne movie any day, than ANYTHING the entertainment field is offering me "fresh from Hollywood". There is a reason that Hollywood has been in a terrible slump lately. Maybe by some standards this movie isn't "realistic enough" these days, but maybe that alone is half the appeal. The definition these days of "realistic" usually means crude, rude, and jaded. It mostly means something I don't want my kids to see, and it always means something I am not relaxed or comfortable watching, either. If John Wayne is "unrealistic", then so be it. But for my two bits, those people in this movie were a lot more "real" than what Hollywood is generating these days. One thing I saw was a mind set among the characters that came from a day when commitments meant something, and they all still had a conscience. And they all wanted very much to be better than they really were. And it didn't take near as much to remind them that they WANTED things to work out right. I'd rather see that 'sappy" attitude any day. I'll pick waiting 40 years to see John Wayne over anything more sophisticated from Hollywood, every single time. John Wayne always rates a 10 star from me, I know I can rely on him.

This is an excellent movie about one of the finest heroes of the 20th century. An attractive young scion from an old Swedish banking family reaches the point where he can no longer tolerate what he sees happening to Jews in Europe during WW2, and decides he has to do something about it. Conferring with a senior Diplomat, he gets himself some minor position in the Diplomatic Corp. and immediately begins to use that position to do something about it. What he does, and how he does it, is so simple, yet so amazing, and most of all, surprising, even shockingly successful.

Totally Politically Incorrect. Can we expect Hollywood, who dissed "The Passion", utterly, to appreciate this piece of work, either, and help market it? I think the fact that others have found this work so unavailable, from a proved actor of the caliber of Richard Chamberlain speaks volumes. This miniseries made many powerful enemies in its day. Sometimes if you bombard the classic movie channels with requests for an "oldie", they will eventually play it, perhaps a year later.
