I happened to catch this movie recently, after not having seen it since 1990, when I was trying to get into college.
I certainly would never have called this movie "fresh" either then or now. As others have pointed-out, this movie can lag at times, and the general feel of the movie does little to distinguish itself from other 80s "teen" movies. In other words, I feel that the overall story is overshadowed by the satiric and humorous elements of the movie, which really is quite original and does make it worth watching.
If you've been through the process and pressure as a teenager of the college application process, you'll likely find this movie entertaining enough to watch during some free time. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to rent it, unless you happen to be trying to get into college or know someone who is.

When first seeing the add for "Buried Secret" on Sci-Fi, I did believe that it might be an unauthorized piece. Having seen his three last films, however, and knowing of this affinity for clever twists, I did suspect that this might be more of a making-of "The Village."
The first scene of "Buried Secret" put both of these to rest for me. This film is part mockumentary, part infomercial for "The Village", and a dash of "Blair Witch Project." I won't give any details away, but I have to wonder whether a piece like this wouldn't be more appropriate for the die-hard "M" fan to watch as DVD extra content released with "The Village."

What a great job. The restored footage is breathtaking, the music incredible. Easily one of the best documentaries I ever saw. Even better, its all presented with a slightly campy bent, reminiscent of the 50s, provided in the narration of the esteemed Mister William "James Tiberius Kirk" Shatner.
