The makers of that show seemed to miss the point of doing a sequel show. Ok, they're doing That 90's Show, which follows That 70's Show. Why do that? Because you want the audience of That 70's Show to watch it, right? That's why I watched it. I was in my twenties when the original aired, I bought the 70s setting, acting, speech, settings... it was the 70s from what I could tell from movies and shows from the 70s. The target audience of the original was probably 12 to 40 year olds. Now the new show focuses on kids acting like 13 14 year olds from 2020 in a Nickelodeon or a cheaper Disney show. Why the heck would I, now in my 40s, be interested in that? They should have gone at least with more mature actors with more acting chops than -good enough for a cheap kids TV show-. Ok, of course their target audience COULD BE the same as Nickelodeon and Disney kids shows these days. But then, why even bother tagging it That 90's Show? These kids don't know the original and if they saw it they probably wouldn't like it. I would have totally dug a show about the original characters in the 90s, with the kids playing a minor part (but even then I would have hoped for actors where even awkward isn't awkward). Well, little Kelso is pretty ok. You could immediately tell whose kid that character is supposed to be.
Then, the comedic timing seems to be off often, even from seasoned actors like Kurtwood Smith and Laura Preppon. Topher Grace still got it, so does Ashton Kutcher and Debra Jo Rupp. Too bad, Red Forman was one of the best characters, especially because Kurtwood Smith played him straight, dead serious. Now you kinda see him smirk slightly in situations where he would have been completely serious in the original. Me in return have a hard time taking the character serious
5 out of 10 for nostalgia.

I actually like the show. Strong cast, funny enough. I was surprised to see Malcolm McDowell, but I guess they wanted to add some credibility to the cast.
What's clear is that they have not only a few similarities to Young Sheldon. I mean, the mother and the brother even look similar to the mother and brother on Young Sheldon. It's almost like they want to be confused with that show.

The show does not work for me. I don't know the UK original, but this just doesn't work. I feel ashamed and embarrassed for the main character. It's partly because Mayim Bialik is great playing the awkward girl, and she brings that vibe here too, yet that character here neither looks like that nor is supposed to act like that. If they, don't turn around the show I'll be neither suprised nor shed a tear if the show is cancelled soon. I don't think the show will survive on Mayim Bialik's star power alone.
