As a registered vet tech I can tell you this show is what really happens in vet practices on a daily basis. To the people complaining about the vets saying they love the animals, we that have chosen this career can tell you the only reason we do it is for the love of the animals (it sure isn't for the money and most of the time not for the clients, as they can be downright horrific to deal with on some days). As far as showing too many animals dying...well that is the truth about veterinary medicine, we can't save them all, even with our best efforts.
I for one think this is hand down the best veterinary show on TV, they do things correctly (unlike many who have no idea what a sterile surgical field is or do assembly line surgeries). The doctors at this practice are empathetic, good diagnosticians, will search for answers they do not have, seek out specialists when needed and treat their clients (and staff well - not really sure where this person who stated Dr. K treats her staff badly got her info??).
I would work for Dr. K in a heartbeat!!! Can't wait for Dr. T. to get her own show.

When I first started watching I enjoyed seeing the animals. After a while though, Dr K's disdain for "vets who only treat...dogs and cats" started to grate. Her admiration for exotic pet owners seems to be based on how much money they are.prepared to spend in her practice. This was painfully obvious in the episode dealing with a marmoset. From the start of the episode, Kelleher speaks of the possibility of an agressive form of herpes. She repeatedly mentions that the marmoset is in pain, but decides it could be something else -- roll out the CT scans and other expensive tests. After three days (during which the animal continues to suffer), it becomes obvious that yes, this is the aggressive herpes she had mentioned three days earlier, so the animal must be euthanised. They also filmed and showed the owner's hysterical crying at the loss of her pet, which I found disgusting. Personal grief is private, or should be.
After a few more episodes in which exotic birds and reptiles died under anaesthesia, some of which were revived only to die a few hours later, I realised this show isn't for me. The giggly-girl babytalk of the vets and techs is seriously out of place when it's a constant in the back room, and the profit motive is a bit too obvious for comfort.

Watched one episode of this show and instantly loved it. I work in a vet clinic myself as reception and everyone's assistant and it was really cool to see some of the more exotic critters get treatment. The setup and equipment they have in this clinic is super advanced, the staff all seem really happy and nice, very caring, and they get to work with some wildlife too! I say anyone interested in veterinary medicine would enjoy this show. However, if you are uncomfortable with graphic material THIS SHOW IS NOT FOR YOU. They show all sorts of things including necropsies (autopsies of dead animals) and it can be too much for some viewers.
I am very picky about shows. Any shows. Especially a rated 10 that says it all right there. I do watch Dr. Pol which has a great cast (minus one vet who clearly hates her job) but I tried another on netflix and that one seemed staged. Not helpful. On Dr. K's it is very evident that it is real and the other employees really enjoy working there. Like the tatted assistant ( so sorry i cannot recall his name) he is like the go to guy, really knows his stuff. All the vets are wonderful, all of them. I look forward to watching them now. Every time I learn something I go and tell my son lol...."did you know animals have a cardiologist or ophthalmologist" and then my son and I talk for an hour or more about it. Then its on to another show. I highly recommend this show. Its real, its kind and its just a joy for all. So thankful its on hulu as on utube you get hooked but only 3 episodes avail. When done right these shows are outstanding. Your teaching as well as doing the show so it matters truly the intention of the cast. Are they doing it for money? Are they staging every animal is urgent urgent or are they really doing it for the animals. So thumbs up, back pats, thank you for doing what you do.
I've been an IMDb lurker for at least 10 years, and this is the first show that motivated me to make my first review.
It's a breath of fresh air to see a reality show that is actually smart and realistic. They show the bright and the dark side of being a veterinarian. Nothing is censored or held back... some animals are healed, and some pass. It's exciting, entertaining, educational, and hilarious at times. Dr.K makes some great innuendos that crack me up. I highly recommend this show, and hope that Nat Geo wild continues to air this show for years to come. Air this more frequently and renew this show for more seasons! :)
