Whoever came up with this commercial concept deserves a good raise, and for what I know there'll be a small series of such ads to come
starring Chay Suede (also the director of this one). Who on earth thinks about a condiment commercial and thinks they can escape the family-esque
type of ads or become so interesting to watch? Well, the makers of it and gladly Pomarola bought the idea of selling the brand through the presence
of a handsome actor, mixing some attributes audiences perceive of him but also ones that can be applied with the tomato sauce. The concept isn't
any novelty, it has been done before but it's the ideas used for it that appeals the most to present everything, and the humor of it all.
A voice-off tells us about a series of special qualities and attributes that describes the man in front of us, wearing a white tank top showing his tattoed shoulders and seducing the viewer as blinks, smile and make some exercises in the kitchen. Until the voice stops to tell us that the sauce is the real owner of such descriptions, much to the Suede's confusion. Hilarious all the way.
But what made it more fun to watch was the 1980's visual style given to it, from the camera and photographic use that made everything looks like an old fashioned commercial to the pornstache used by Chay Suede - made him look corny but he still can get it, he's got the sauce.
Speaking of sauce, for the life of me I never heard of the term being used to describe a special individual (he or she's got the sauce). Honestly.
On the other hand, it really worked for this campaign and the brand, becoming one of the most interesting and funniest ads of recent years. 9/10.
