It's almost good. It's very Makoto Shinkai, in ways that are both good and bad. His work often feels like it's saying a lot initially, but then proceeds to repeat itself or feel kind of shallow. And with Other Worlds, you get that happening within the span of less than two minutes, which would be almost impressive if it wasn't also kind of a shame.

It's not a short about how love or romance really works, or even can sort of work, but it's a vague exploration of a certain kind of bond that the filmmaker gravitates toward. Some of the imagery is striking, and the brevity of it all is merciful. It's not won me over to him entirely, but if this was the student film I'm guessing it was, I guess it's not bad by those standards.
