There's No Way Out

Lifetime/Hallmark has done some stinkers but this has to be the worst yet. ImDB shows they spent $1million to make this. Where? They could not have spent more than $25 for the scrip, which was nothing more than a convoluted mess. Maybe they used AI to write it. The direction was passable, pedestrian at best. The acting was what you would expect from the production company. No stars, no top talent, some that were pretty good, some that seem to have just walked off their local dinner theater stage. But with a script this bad it is hard to tell. Calling it Cinematography is an insult to cinematographers. It was a person behind a camera that knew something about lighting. The house they used probably ate a good bit of the budget, a big, big, & big house. Maybe an AirB&B rented for a couple of days. This is just an awful, awful movie that never tried to more than what was, an awful Lifetime movie. Anyone who rated this higher than a 4 is being paid, is related to someone affiliated with the movie, or has a heart of gold when it comes to movies.

A nurse and her husband attempt to foster a pair of abused sisters, but the new family is stalked by the biological parents.

I wanted to like 'There's No Way Out,' but the writer sacrifices logic so much that this habit becomes distracting. How does a stalker who's on foot keep up with a car? Why are there no security cameras in a hospital? Why is the door to a house left unlocked during the day? Why does this unlocked door trigger an alarm? How does a certain someone know a security code? Why are foster parents not informed of their kids' history by a social worker? How did a character who wasn't alone make an emergency call undetected?

I could go on. Instead, I want to mention that I did enjoy the performances, particularly those of Elizabeth Longshaw and Marcus Rosner, who play the foster parents, though this bond features the usual cliche in which one person sees what's really going on, while the other is too naive.

The film skips over a crucial part early on, in which an unseen shopping trip apparently bridges the gap between the foster mother and her older child. However, there are some nice scenes featuring the kids and their new parents later.

Overall, it's a decent effort that could have benefited from a bit more care.

Premise is two young girls being raised by 'off-the-grid' parents. Father is psychotic. Illness forces the two sisters to escape for treatment. At hospital, nurse agrees to foster children while court system adjudicates matter. Psychotic father keeps trying to kidnap children back.

However, the screenplay is fraught with impossible events.

1. Despite not knowing where nurse lives, off-grid parents show up at house.

2. Despite not knowing alarm code, off-grid mother enters house and shuts off alarm.

3. Despite living 10 miles away, off-grid parents with no vehicle are continually showing up in nurses backyard each night.

4. Psychotic father enters hospital numerous times as if hospital has zero admissions security.

5. Psychotic father finds morphine vial just sitting in an unsecured cart.....as if narcotic drugs are just left laying around in the open.

6. I normally like Marcus Rosner, but in this flick, he is scripted to be as dumb as a bag of rocks playing the nurses husband.

What could have been a good thriller watch is constantly degraded by implausible events.
