Stellar performances undermined by a weak script and poor CGI

The trailer of the film was a breath of fresh air among the usual rom-coms during Eid season. However, I was disappointed by the actual movie due to it not being scary at all. The audience was laughing through most of the film's horror sequences which is a testament to poor buildup and atmosphere development. Both elements essential to a good horror flick.

To make matters worse, the CGI was shockingly BAD. They could have done better through working with extras in makeup or they could have used the black mist they used at the end if they wanted to go down the CGI route. The 3D models they used for most of the film were laughably non-scary.

Meanwhile, the script wanted to use all the usual horror tropes from the The Conjuring (2013), Poltergeist (1982), with a bit of Siccin thrown in instead of actually trying to work on originality, pacing, character development, and overall atmosphere. All the while, leaving a lot unanswered until the final 5 minutes of the film. The audience just wasn't able to relate to anything beyond the usual Sas-Bahu tropes.

That said, I won't take anything away from the excellent performances of Samina Peerzada, Faisal Qureshi, and Sonya Husayn. They literally carried a weak film through their acting prowess, otherwise I would have left the theater after the first 3D Jinn.

More laughs than screams

I waited a month to watch this movie and I feel stupid. The movie had no character build up and the ending felt so rushed. I got sick of the house shots. It felt like the director ran out of ways to show that the days are passing by. The horrible CGI just made it worst. They could have hired so many talented individuals but they decided not to. The movie had so much potential. Each character in the movie had zero arcs. The storyline was dry and boring. I just wanted to leave. There was no build up. The entire storyline was focused on the mother and it ended with her. They could have ended it in a better way. Just disappointing.

A good film and great try from the Pakistani Film Industry

A decent film thats less about horror and more about the psychological effects of Jinns and possession on a family.

The writing was okay, characters were well written but some of their motivations were left unexplained or felt rushed in explanations, especially the rivalry between the mother-in-law and the wife.

The 3rd act felt flat, there was no rise in tension or stakes for the family. The worst was how the movie ended, it felt abrupt and unfinished, there was no closure given to both the family nor the viewers. Overall good watch, nothing extraordinary but a great step in Pakistan films.

Bad Execution And No Plot at All, Dont waste Your Money

The plot was painfully slow-you kept waiting for something to happen, but it didn't build until the interval. Even after that, the story didn't take off, and the ending felt completely forced. The film only grabbed some attention in the last 15 minutes. The CGI was awful; practical effects with makeup would've been much scarier and more effective. Instead of being scared, the audience was laughing throughout. It felt more like a bad comedy than a horror film. Soundtrack and sound mixing were also poorly done and failed to build any tension or suspense. Very disappointing overall, not worth the hype.

Worst Movie

No plot, no story, no script only with few horror scenes they made a movie total time waste and one of worst horror movies ever seen.

Acting of faisal qureshi and sameena peerzada is good but that is the only point story is super bakwas as even child stories are better than this , I mean whoever wrote the story must be fired from this industry.

Then plot and speed is too slow and even boring and sometimes I want to fast forward the movie but have to be there as I paid money for ticket.

Pakistan cinmea made some good movies in the past like majla jatt but this movie really disappointment and made me sad.

Was definitely not scary!

When watching a horror film in Cinema I expect to be scared, maybe not leave a scaring impact on me for days but at least in the move... The VFX was not really impressing, better editing can even be done by YouTubers. But overall not a bad choice, this was the first Pakistani horror film and was definitely not a bad first step. I'll recommend to watch it 👍 support Pakistani cinema in this genre for the people who are tired of typical love/comedy Pakistani films. It had great acting by the old woman, great expressions by her... Faisal Qureshi also played a very nice role, just like realistic, typical family men of Pakistan.

Unintentionally funny

If it was a horror comedy, great effort. On some scenes, we all burst out laughing.

If wasn't a comedy and just horror... A pity.

A non existent story in which you have to make out things on your own because no logic will prevail.

If this movie was 40 minutes long and available on YouTube for free, it would still not be worth watching. Let alone paying 1000 rupees per person and sitting in the theater for two hours.

The male child artist visible laughs in some scenes and it made to the final cut. All the female characters have Botox filled faces finding it really hard to emote. The female lead's weight kept fluctuating throughout the film. Placement of a lot of scenes was unnecessary and made no sense.

Pro tip: never make jinns in CGI. Even Hollywood doesn't do it because it is very difficult to scare people with it. Use prosthetics or don't show but don't show cartoonish funny CGI.

The only thing I'm scared of after watching the film is the state of Pakistani cinema.

A decent try but left incomplete

It was a good try, some really good performances. Some sequences were gripping but they left it in middle of nowhere.some scenes were dragged so much that they become bore. The storyline was good. But all went nose dive in the climax. They should have end this properly. Samina Pirzada was top notch backed up by the other cast. They should announce the second part of it because there is too much left to tell and they can give it a proper ending if they go for a sequel. Still I would say it's way better than many of the recent Pakistani movies and they should try and explore this kind of cinema more.

Awesome with flaws

Deemak is a good addition to Pakistani horror cinema and deserves credit for pushing the genre forward. The editing stands out as it keeps the tension sharp and scenes crisp. However, some scenes dragged a lot. A few sequences feel stretched or unnecessary, which slows the pace. Also, the transitions from one situation to another can be quite abrupt, sometimes leaving the audience confused about how the characters react to the horror experience.

Despite these flaws, Deemak delivers good scares and an engaging atmosphere, and funny at times. It's definitely worth watching for horror fans looking for something fresh.

Doesn't reach the mark

The movie is the first in the industry so a good starting point I'd say but an absolute disaster of a horror movie. I guess the expectations were high considering the writer's reputation. The scares were cheesy to say the least and even for Pakistani production, could have been way better. The story did not build at all until the last 15 minutes. The plot was good but there was just no proper build up. The first hour and a half was just bad cgi scares and ending was abrupt. Could have been better. In my opinion, the scares could have been improved by using actual makeup rather than cgi if you aren't good at it and the story could have been focused on more if you aren't good at making scares.

A Thrilling New Chapter in Pakistani Horror: A Gripping Tale with Stellar Performances

A fantastic addition to Pakistani horror cinema! Sameena Peerzada and Soneya Hussain deliver exceptional performances, each bringing depth and intensity to their roles. The gripping plot is full of suspense, skillfully blending traditional horror elements with a fresh cultural perspective. The film keeps you on the edge of your seat, with an atmosphere that builds tension effectively. However, the ending feels a bit rushed, and a stronger conclusion could have elevated the experience. Despite this, it's a must-watch for horror fans and a promising step forward for Pakistani cinema's horror genre!

A Mixed Bag

This is something new for Pak Film Industry. A horror movie. It does not have jump scares and no slashers also. The plot is everywhere. The connection of starting scenes to subsequent scenes and story was not properly established. I kept waiting for something to happen late in the movie but it ended abruptly. The script itself, within the bounds of a poor plot, is not bad at all. A very realistic portrayal of a family struggling with its inner demons, also having to bear with external ones as well. The best part of the movie was performance by Sonya Hussyn. An amazing and award worthy performance. Very natural and true life portrayal of an everyday, typical wife and mother in Pakistan society. Very impressive. Faisal Qureishi is good, too. It's worth a watch.

Injecting Humor and Elevating the Story

Let's ditch the grim and gritty! We need to pivot hard towards more funny, rather than horror-based, VFX and CGI. Imagine slapstick supernatural creatures, hilariously exaggerated magical mishaps, and visual gags that land with comedic precision instead of jump scares. The current visual effects and computer-generated imagery are leaning too heavily into the spooky, when our true potential lies in side-splitting spectacle.

Beyond just the visuals, the story needs to be significantly better. It's not enough to simply swap out a few monsters for clowns; the narrative itself requires a complete overhaul. We need a plot that's genuinely engaging, filled with clever twists, memorable characters, and dialogue that sparkles with wit. Currently, the storyline feels thin and uninspired, which even the best visual gags won't be able to salvage. A truly great comedic film, even with fantastic VFX, relies on a solid foundation of storytelling that keeps the audience invested and laughing from start to finish. We're aiming for genuine hilarity, not just a series of disconnected gags.

Deemak - A Disgrace Disguised as Entertainment

I watched the Pakistani film Deemak yesterday, and while I was mentally prepared to tolerate two hours of mindless, boring, senseless torture, what I absolutely cannot accept is the shameless mockery and disrespect shown towards the Holy Quran.

Are you seriously telling me that your idea of "horror" includes showing a ghost casually ignoring Quranic verses being recited? What kind of pathetic, twisted message are you trying to send to the audience? That divine words have no power? That evil can simply shrug off the Quran?

This isn't just bad writing - it's blatant, irresponsible, and offensive. It reeks of ignorance and a dangerous lack of understanding of religious sensitivity in a Muslim-majority country. You crossed a line - not just in bad cinema, but in spiritual decency.

To the creators of this film: Shame on you for allowing such garbage to reach the screen. Horror doesn't mean you spit on sacred beliefs. This wasn't horror - this was humiliation disguised as fiction.

This film should've never made it past the script stage.

A solid psychological horror in desi society

Deemak does a fantastic job as a psychological horror film, giving us a very realistic take on horror within a middle-class household. The grounded story and strong acting create a real sense of tension and dread.

What makes Deemak stand out is how it dives into psychological trauma, mental health, and family struggles, issues that are very real in our society but rarely talked about. The horror isn't just about ghosts, it's about emotional breakdowns and the weight of guilt and fear.

Sure, the CGI could've been better, but the message, story, and performances more than make up for it. For Pakistan's first take on psychological horror, it's a really solid start.

A Chilling Masterpiece of Pakistani Horror Cinema

*Deemak* (2025) is a groundbreaking Pakistani horror film that delivers a chilling, intelligent, and deeply atmospheric experience. Set in an eerie ancestral home, the story uses the infestation of termites as a haunting metaphor for guilt, decay, and buried family secrets. Director Saim Ali Qureshi masterfully blends psychological horror with cultural critique, crafting a slow-burn narrative that crawls under your skin. Sanam Saeed shines with a raw, haunting performance, while the cinematography and sound design create an immersive world of dread where silence is as terrifying as any scream. With its rich symbolism, powerful acting, and chilling visuals, *Deemak* isn't just a horror film-it's a terrifying reflection of the rot that hides behind tradition. A bold and unforgettable 10/10 experience that proves Pakistani horror has truly arrived.

Groundbreaking performances!

The movie mixes a common desi household and the the horror genre. Cinematography is amazing, and the story is good. But what deserves 10/10 are the performances. Samina Pirzada, Sonia Hussain, Faysal Qureshi, everyone did a great job!

I personally admire the writer of the movie, who started her career from her Insta page Abujinns, where she published horror stories that were creepy as hell. She did a great job in the movie as well. This movie is the hope for revival of horror genre in Pakistan.

I wish to see some more from the creators of the movie, and I recommend you guys to watch the movie with your friends, the jumpscares will be more fun :)

Good

Excellent movie and plot. Very difficult to find the exact plot till the end. Very interesting and intriguing storyline but the ghost part was a little non adjacent however it was eerie the concept of the end which made me finalize my decision of the movie and after the end when you keep on guessing what was the actual story plot. Earlier it was the mother-in-law brick looked to be the culprit then it was daughter-in-law and next it was the husband and the part where the child was thrown from the stairs was a message and it was a very scary thought. I loved that park of the movie as it was horrified.

Deemak - A Gripping Exploration of Supernatural Fear Rooted in Cultural Belief

Deemak is an outstanding addition to contemporary Pakistani cinema, standing out for its bold storytelling and immersive execution. Created and produced in Pakistan, the film offers a refreshing take on supernatural horror, intricately woven with cultural and spiritual undertones that resonate deeply with audiences familiar with religious or spiritual worldviews-regardless of faith.

While every viewer is entitled to their own cinematic preferences, Deemak is not your typical jump-scare horror flick. Instead, it appeals to those who believe in the unseen and the natural manifestation of fear through the supernatural-a concept deeply embedded in many religious ideologies.

The direction is commendable and deserves special mention for its ability to maintain suspense and intensity throughout. The performances by the entire cast are exceptional, breathing authenticity into every scene and adding emotional weight to the narrative.

This film is a must-watch for those who appreciate horror driven by atmosphere, belief, and psychological depth rather than pure gore or predictable scares. Deemak not only entertains but also provokes thought, making it a remarkable cinematic experience in today's local film industry.

Above expectations

The film's slow-burn tension is built on thoughtful lighting, sound design, and set pieces-like unsettling drips, crawling termites, and levitating beds-that create an oppressive, realistic dread

Loved the plot. Loved the performance. Director paid attention to the details. Made my Eid special. Excited for part II.

Samina Pirzada and Sonya Hussain both are seasoned actresses who brought depth in the acting performance. Plot could be more exciting but overall an excellent effort by the director.

Humor was definitely an intentional part of the story which made it totally not boring. This movie should be introduced in US cinema for more critical evaluation.
