While I had indeed never heard about this 2025 horror movie titled "Monkey Killer" as I stumbled upon it by random chance, of course I opted to watch it given my love of all things horror. I have to say, though, that I harbored zero expectations, as the movie's cover just wasn't interesting or alluring. But still, I opted to give writer and director Geovanni Molina the benefit of the doubt.
But wait a moment, the movie was not only written and directed by Geovanni Molina, it was also starring Geovanni Molina. And a movie that has the one and same person doing all those parts, well, they usually tend to be dubious affairs. And that fact did nothing to help me amp up any expectations to this being a good movie.
And then there also was the 2.1 rating on IMDb, as in the moment I sat down to watch "Monkey Killer", well that just didn't shine a good light on the movie either. So it seemed that the movie had so many things stacked against it, and I hadn't even started the movie yet.
I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. That was actually something that spoke in favor of the movie, as I enjoy watching unfamiliar and new talents on the screen. The acting performances were generally not great. And especially leading actor, writer and director Geovanni Molina, who apparently thinks looking constipated in every scene is what passes for acting, stood out with the most cringeworthy performance in the movie.
This was some next level low budget garbage. The gunshots had me laughing so hard.
Now, "Monkey Killer" is labeled as a horror movie. Yeah, it is most definitely not a horror movie, well, not unless you consider shoddy acting as being horror. This was, and even this is a far stretch, a supernatural thriller.
You might want to do yourself a favor and give "Monkey Killer" a wide berth. The movie's cover depicts a monkey that isn't even in the movie. It was a mere latex halloween mask that was being used, and it looked like something bought off of Wish.
My rating of "Monkey Killer" lands on a most generous two out of ten stars.

This movie is the result of when a Jack of all trades and master of none, decides to write, direct and act in the same production.
The result is a mess.
A poorly written amateurish script and gaps, holes and total lack of story telling.
The acting, if one is to call it that, is over the top, unconvincing, cringe worthy and simply bad.
The reason this production gets a 2 and not any higher is because one person thought they could do the work of 3.
There is a reason why we have writers, directors and actors in the movie business.
Actors should only act.
Writers should only write.
Directors should only direct.
When you write a script and create lines for a character that you are then going to portray and direct at the same time, the end result looks like something a grade 10 student assembled in their spare time.
Act, write, or direct. Dont do more than one thing.
4 months ago, one of the most accomplished directors in the world, Francis Ford Coppola decided that he was suddenly a writer. So he wrote Megapolis. He then attempted to direct Megapolis. The result was flushing 125$ Million down the drain. The movie failed and it was a financial disaster, nearly ruined his career.
You should learn from this example.
Stick to one thing and do it well, do not think for a moment that you can do more than one thing well at the same time.
