Have seen Brooke D'Orsay and especially Wes Brown in other things and have liked enough of their work, it is easy to see why Brown is a Hallmark regular. Marilu Henner also has a real knack for scene stealing in supporting roles. Was a little unsure about the premise, which had some potential to be charming but it sounded more contrived and cheesy in alternative to that and have seen Hallmark do it badly before. Hallmark did do some above average and more films in the early 2010s, even making some unappealing premises a lot more tasteful and charming.

Something that is not really achieved with 'Love in January', which left me feeling rather lukewarm. It has good things and D'Orsay and Henner come over well, but Brown does not and the premise is as contrived and cheesy as it sounds reading the synopsis, doing nothing to change my mind over my general negative feelings about it and instead reinforcing why. Some of it also not tasteful. 'Love in January' is not one of the worst 2014 Hallmark films, but it is very, very average.

D'Orsay does bring a lot of charm and sincerity to her role and Henner enjoys herself immensely as the conniving mother in law. Their chemistry is a lot more believable than that between D'Orsay and Brown and did have some nice unforced tension.

It looks nice, especially the scenery. It starts off quite well and has some sweet moments.

Brown however is very, very bland in a role that is little more than an underwritten stereotype that plays too much second fiddle to the conflict. He has no chemistry with D'Orsay in a romance that is underused and dominated too much by the conflict. Which there is too much of and too much of it is very contrived to cartoonish effect. The story, when there is much of one, is excessively predictable and over the top ridiculous, with a very unrealistically over-convenient ending.

Everybody else also makes little impression with nothing to do. The script goes overboard on the cheesiness which at its worst is cringe-inducing and too reminiscent of bad 90s high school sitcom. Could connect with very few of the characters with them being so dull, and by the end of the film Henner's character felt too dominant. The music is very repetitive, inappropriately scored and some of the placement is odd. Also agree about the insulting lack of respect the film has for nurses, especially considering how much they have gone through in the past four years with the high number of COVID cases and constant negativity from the media and from the people that believe what is written about them.

Concluding, very average though not unwatchable. 5/10.

When I saw that Brooke D'Orsay was the star, I was excited because I thought she was a powerful character in Royal Pains. And as the movie started out, it looked like this would be another chance to see a wonderful woman similar to Paige from Royal Pains. But the movie was boring. Most of it was about wedding planning. There was an attempt to set up a daughter-in-law/mother-in-law conflict. But that conflict was muddled. There are other details I didn't like, but expanding on them gives away too much. In some ways this was not your typical Hallmark movie. There were no competing love interests and the leads started out in love (having had a two year uninterrupted relationship). The male lead was a virtual non-entity. I don't blame D'Orsay for the shortcomings because I think she did the best she could with the script.

6.4 stars.

A man who was basically born into money and is pressured by his rich mother has decided to marry a nurse. Of course she is a good nurse, and one of the best people you will ever meet, but that doesn't change the mind of a soon to be mother-in-law who wants nothing more than to have her son marry into the aristocracy.

There are a lot of cringe moments in this film, and my primary take is that this guy does not deserve this woman. In the end he has the chance to prove that he really loves her no matter what the cost. One moment is when she loses her ring down the sink and then puts it on immediately after salvaging it. WASH IT FIRST.

Hallmark is literally my FAVORITE channel on Comcast! So much so that my husband makes fun of me for watching all the "corny" movies. I never care what he thinks because I absolutely LOVE the Hallmark movies! I think they are sweet and poignant and I totally love them.........UNTIL!!!!!! UNTIL I came across this movie, June in January!! It's a lovely enough movie but there is a scene where the main character and her fiancé are running through the park and she is telling him how she thinks his mother doesn't like her and that she is sure she had someone better in mind for her son to marry than a nurse" and he said, "ya but you're a Nurse Practioner" and she says, "oh like your mom knows the difference?" WTF??? Like being a nurse isn't prestigious enough?!! Now we all have to be Nurse Practitioners to be recognized?? I am a Registered Nurse and I went to school for 4 years to be one. I make more money than a lot of CEO's of companies and that is coming from a "head hunter" who used to find jobs for CEO's! I find that whole scene BEYOND offensive to all my fellow Registered Nurses and I am thoroughly disgusted with Hallmark that you allowed such a scene to be put in one of your movies. How dare you! I have worked so long and hard in my career and frankly most nurses I know blow doctors away with their intellect and saviness!! Anyway....I had no idea where to direct my anger, so I chose to display it here on IMDb! Thanks to anyone who got this far in the review! I appreciate you reading my post!

Ps....I don't also mean to put down doctors because there are so many wonderful docs who deserve our admiration.

I think there's some valuable lessons in this movie, about having dreams your whole life of a certain wedding and then changing them and making it OK. It's more than I am explaining. Anyway, Marilu Henner did a great job in her roll and I enjoyed watching her. Thought it was great, knowing her from her radio show, she likes good for you food and she displays that in the movie. The food she picked sounded really good to me. I would love to go to a wedding with that food served. Anyway as far as wedding movies, I thought it was worth watching.

In this Hallmark romance, the couple is already in love making it less about romance and more about the wedding that comes after. When the main character, June, pulls out this ridiculous homemade wedding dream book filled with the wedding that she has been planning since the age of seven, I knew I was going to have difficulty relating. I was almost back in when she explained it was a way to stay close to her now deceased mom...and have her at the wedding, but no mom would want her to sacrifice and compromise...and the monster-in-law...that was really sad.

I am glad that in the end they were finally honest with each other...I'm also glad that the couple reallY loved one another.

Not really a recommendation to my romantics...but if you love the craziness around weddings maybe you will like this film.

Hallmark Movies used to to be high quality, believe it or not, presented every so often as the Hallmark Hall of Fame. Increasingly over the past 7 years, they have been churning out predictable nonsense on an assembly line in a Canadian factory. It's gotten so bad that during the months-long Christmas SEASON (a true, 3 month season) that only one or two movies are actually worth watching. This movie is one of the earlier failures. Most movies around 2013 or before were actually funny and watchable. This one is a bizarre mash of incoherent plotlines, coupled with nearly inaudible dialogue. And why is it inaudible? The SOUNDTRACK. It's like a "circus waltz" that pops up at inappropriate times and then goes away just as suddenly. It's like someone not watching the film starts and stops the music by putting records on and playing with the tonearm. The music is usually inappropriate to what's going on in the movie. And it is LOUD. Like, REALLY LOUD. It's sweeping orchestral music, so loud you can't hear the conversations and must used closed captioning, and......it's blaring while a couple is talking over a cup of coffee at the kitchen table.

We are all aware Hallmark can be as safe and sappy as can be....this takes the cake. A lesser leading lady would have dropped my score significantly.

This movie has the traditional Hallmark warm bright colors that makes an otherwise kinda boring movie engaging. Not much happens and the stakes are very low. Lady wants to get married in January, but work issues make that not possible without some holiday magic and a super quick resolving of inlaw issues.

Very minor spoilers, not that there is anything worth spoiling: While I had no desire to trash or praise this film, I commented for one reason: these characters are so Christian (how christian are they?!), they are so Christian that the idea of living together for a few months before marriage never even crossed their minds as a thing that is possible. Tres bizarre. Additionally, money did not seem to be an issue....couldn't they at least have lived near each other for awhile? Spent a year as engaged? Last minor spoiler, I didn't like how the "bad girl" was mistreated for doing what she thought her boss wanted. Obviously, morally she was not cool, but many are trained to take initiative and know what the boss wants. When the boss changes their mind after acting the stereotypical mother-in-law, the employee shouldn't suffer!

A simple, sweet, and safe movie with light charm if that is what you are after. I honestly don't remember the ending but pretty sure they got married in January as planned. That's not a spoiler because I could be wrong.

A final note to reviewer LisaSwason, perhaps the only human to be offended by a Hallmark movie: that scene wasn't designed to mock the nursing profession, but rather an example of the typical passive-aggressive minimizing technique employed by "mother-in-law" types in many stories. It doesn't matter the profession, these type of people will find ways to knock you down. Please calm down - no one is attacking you, at least not at Hallmark.

...with its virtues and sins. nice, seductive, familiar, boring. predictable in large lines. and nothing surprising. that is all. no new things, an exercise of war between the women from the life of a young man, moral lesson and not credible situations. and a new sort of modern fairy tale, perfect for a precise target, nice for many of its viewers.

June in January is another Hallmark chick flick which comes out with a cookie cutter plot and some bland but good looking leads and a small budget.

Alex is a rising lawyer and from a wealthy family. June always planned a dream wedding with her late mother in June. However a job in another city means that they bring forward the wedding to January and have only a few days to plan the wedding. The cog in the wheel is Alex's mother (Marilu Henner) who has her own wedding agenda and shuts out June, she is aided by her new assistant who carries a torch for Alex.

Alex takes little interest in the wedding planning, eventually realises that her mother is domineering and he is at risk of losing his bride. After a brief showdown, the mother eventually has a change of heart.

The film is breezy and inoffensive. Its also very predictable and not very good. The director shows little flair, the script is by the numbers.

Another in a long line of boring, predictable pap. Nothing new, nothing that cannot be figured out in the first 10 minutes.

Perky bride has the requisite dead mother who encouraged her daughter to have a lifelong obsession with her wedding day. In the cast: supportive father (naturally), evil mother-in-law-to-be that sees the error of her ways and does at 180 and embraces the new daughter-in-law in the nick of time, vindictive wannabe girlfriend who is so obvious in her deceit that she might as well be wearing a neon sign, and two totally chemistry-free lovers. Obligatory crisis occurs in the last 10 minutes and is solved in mere seconds and this mess is blessedly over.

And yet again they film in a location that expects a suspension of belief with the premise that the entire wedding will be ruined because it's January instead of June and "too cold for roses" and yet every tree is fully leafed out. Apparently Hallmark has no budget for anything but the same tired studio back lot.

Don't waste your time. You've seen it all before about 50 times.

I caught the last 20 minutes of the movie - which was more than enough to understand the entire plot. Could there have been any more clichés thrown into this one? a) Mother-in-law doesn't approve and tries to break up marriage - but comes around in the end. b) Dead mother of the bride speaks from the graves. c) girl is made to feel bad for wanting a wedding she has dreamed of "because in the end, it isn't about the ceremony, it is about the one you love." d) potential sabotage, but in the end, the day is saved. e) all is right with the world.

I am a romantic myself, but this was so nauseating.... Granted this is the same corporation that makes all of the sappy cards we give out on every holiday.

Your typical hallmark movie. However, what annoys me is the portrayal of RNs as gold diggers, poor and not classy! Whoever wrote this show needs to be educated in what kind of people nurses are. Unlike some people who finished in ivy league schools, we nurses do not make and serve coffee to their bosses!

Brooke D'Orsay is getting married to Wes Brown in only a few weeks and she has a wedding to plan. She turns into Bridezilla and freaks out when future mother-in-law Marilu Henner tries to help because not every detail is just as she imagined it would be.

This is a movie quite evidently aimed at women. Mr. Brown doesn't care about the details of their wedding and neither do I. This makes Miss D'Orsay's mania obnoxious. Since I did not care about Miss D'Orsay, I do not care about the details of her wedding, Mr. Brown's is a handsome but rather bland character and even the old pros don't give me much of interest, even though they turn obnoxious in order to give some sense of dramatic conflict to the movie.

By the time that happens and the inevitable crisis occurs, I had lost interest and expect that every man whose girlfriend makes him watch will do likewise. I also believe that a lot of women who believe that a wedding is a nice party and that it's the marriage that counts will feel the same.
