Dogs, dogs and more dogs

I don't know if it is director, the script or the actors but I felt I was watching the first table read. The leads were very attractive and had some chemistry but were very stiff and showed very little emotion. A good director should have been able to get more from them. Instead, they just stood looking at each other and recited their lines. The supporting actors performed better, probably due to the fact that they are more experienced actors. The animals were the best part of the movie. They made the movie more watchable. I am sixty six characters too short so I will just ask why I see some reviews that are only two or three lines? Ok, now I'm done.

Have dogs, I'll always watch.

I loved the dogs; they were actually my favorite part. I've always been a doggie Mom, and have had many over the years - have 3 right now.

I enjoyed the movie and the storyline. It certainly proved that dogs are good for you, good for the soul, good for healing.

But, the writing and/or the acting could have been much better. The acting seemed so tense, so scripted - like they were just reading lines - not natural at all.

Also, if you've ever visited your local animal shelter - I feel quite certain it looked nothing like the one in this movie. I know for a fact that the 2 in our city don't look like this one did. This one looked like a cute little puppy boutique. Cute, but not realistic.

Dogs truly are the best therapy.

Whilst doing physiotherapy Caleb meets Amber, who owns an animal shelter. A Year later, Caleb is all better, and happens to drive past Amber's shelter. Being unemployed, he offers to volunteer for her Christmas adoption drive.

With his love for dogs, Caleb manages to make her drive a huge success, and in the process he falls in love with Amber, and an adorable dog named Rex. This dog is so precious that he might just inspire you to adopt a dog yourself!

From a romance perspective, it is just as predictable as a Hallmark movie. I mean, from the moment Caleb and Amber met it is inevitable they would fall in love. But hey, this is a movie with a simple premise, and a real feel-good movie! 'Tails of Christmas' is perfect for a family movie night - especially around Christmas!

The acting wasn't the greatest. Ash Tsai, who portrays Amber, sounded like she was simply saying her lines. She might not be the best actress, but at least her voice is nice and clear and I could hear every word. Eric Guilmette was much better in the role of Caleb, but then again, he is a far more experienced actor. And he's darn cute, too!

Acting Lessons, Anyone?

We were looking for a happy, sappy Christmas movie as an escape from our maniacal daily lives. Tails of Christmas had so much promise. A great storyline, a production under the Great American Family banner, wonderful cinematography/stage-direction, well-done background music, good-looking actors, DOGS! What could possibly go wrong?

The acting. That's what went wrong. We've seen better acting in middle-school plays. We didn't make it past the 30-minute mark, it was so cringe-worthy. A shame, really, because we've seen some really well-done GAF Christmas movies this 2024 season. GAF made the mistake of deploying nearly an entire pretty-faced rookie cast on Tails of Christmas that otherwise would've been great with some seasoned actors.

Also, if you want to do a movie with "shelter" dogs, you've got to show the dogs in the shelter barking/going crazy, not sitting there like perfect angels. There are ways to direct around that type of realistic chaos.

Not well acted

I agree with a lot that Lily said. The actors seem like actors reading from a script, not like regular people interacting in real life. The overall tone is even more farfetched than most Christmas TV movies and while this movie wasn't promoted as a GAF Pure Flix movie it had all the hallmarks of one, meaning an over reliance on religion. Caleb, while troubled seems to have a fairly prosperous lifestyle for someone with just a nine year enlistment and no discernable job prospects. You would be better off sticking to the standard Hallmark fare even if the plots are usually predictable and hackneyed.

Tails of Reviewing This Movie

The acting is just not good. The actors playing Amber and Caleb are gorgeous, but that does not save their line delivery!

The actress who plays Amber delivers all her lines in the exact same way. The same pauses in the same places, the same emphasizing in the same parts of lines- it's all just the same.

The actor who plays Caleb just has no emotion, ever. Not in his speech and not on his face. The only time he shows emotion is when he adopts a dog, and that happens near the end of the film. So, for 90% of the runtime, he's like a blank slate.

If you really, and i mean REALLY like dogs, you might be able to overlook the bad acting, since the dogs are very cute.

Rescue, of dogs and lonely humans

The good: promoted shelter adoptions, and how taking the focus off yourself and helping others (including dogs and cats) help make you happier and cures loneliness. Story was well written, and flowed well.

The bad: only showed fluffy purebreds that look like they literally stepped out of fancy dog shows. I love that they promoted adoption, but wish they had shown actual lovable shelter dogs. While there are purebreds in shelters, you much more commonly see terrier breeds. Seniors, black dogs, and cats, Heinz 57s-- all who are just as adorable and lovable and need homes the most.

And as everyone else mentioned, while the actors were attractive and likable enough, they were not good actors. Not by a long stretch. It was watchable only because they seemed pleasant, but lacked any sort of emotion or acting abilities.

Conclusion: I had to give it a higher grade because I love any movie that features animals and presents the idea of adopting an animal from a shelter. This movie's writers's heart was in the right place.

Merry Christmas!

Wow. That's a lot of Tens!

I actually watched this a month ago, but I held off reviewing. Then I saw all the tens and thought I had the wrong movie.

No mistake.

Well, we're all entitled to our opinion. Mine is this movie is barely a five.

It stars Ash Tsai as a young woman who operates an animal shelter, and Eric Guilmette as an embittered veteran who begins volunteering there.

There's not a great deal of story here, but it is, unfortunately, one of those GAC movies in which the actors are stiff, wooden and amateurish...at times painfully so.

You really have to be able to get past that to watch some of these. Clearly several people did.

I can understand that. Ash Tsai was in another movie last year I gave a similar review and doubted I would watch it again. But I was wrong. I did watch it.

I don't see an Academy Award in her future, but she does have an appeal that's hard to describe, and an ever-present sweet smile that makes it ok that she's not yet a great actress.

Guilmmette was much the same. I have seen worse actors refine their craft and become very good, so I will hold out hope for both of them.

All in all not the best year for the Christmas movies, but GAC is getting there. In fact, I think I liked them better than Hallmark this year. First time for everything.

Fur babies, Christmas, Eric, Love is the perfect holiday movie combo 🎄

The Tails of Christmas brings the warmth and spirit of the holiday season to life, beautifully exploring themes of healing, resilience, and love. Eric Guilmette stars as Caleb, an Army veteran facing the physical and emotional challenges of recovery. When he returns home and unexpectedly finds himself volunteering alongside Amber (Ash Tsai) at a local animal shelter, he rediscovers a sense of purpose and forms a connection that goes far beyond gratitude.

Guilmette's portrayal of Caleb is nothing short of transformative. With remarkable authenticity, he transitions from a man struggling with his past to someone rediscovering joy and fulfillment. Each emotion-from pain to hope-rings profoundly true, making Caleb's journey feel incredibly realistic and deeply moving.

With its blend of pets, holiday cheer, and an uplifting love story, The Tails of Christmas is far more than a romance. It's a heartwarming testament to second chances, reminding us that everyone deserves happiness and purpose, even after life's hardest moments. This genuine, feel-good movie is a must-watch, capturing the true essence of the holiday season.

No visible means of support

So, Caleb doesn't have a job but doesn't seem to need a paycheck. It sounds like both his jobs are volunteer situations. That didn't hit me until a hour and twenty minutes into the movie, so maybe I missed the explanation for that.

Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. The whole finding a purpose theme was well done. The lead male actor was stiff and just didn't seem very experienced. The female lead was overly cheerful, but I liked her in the role.

After years of watching Christmas movies, this one hit all the right notes. It was very formulaic but enjoyable. The supporting cast was also good in their roles.

Acting terrible and had to turn off

Lots of reviews here where they had the same opinion, but still giving it a 6, and I don't understand that logic at all. I kept hoping it would get better, but it was like a table read. I'm not sure if it was the script or the actors ability to actually act, but there was just no emotion. Yes, the actors were attractive, but that can't carry a movie. I know it's on a Christian type network, but just don't care for all the religious stuff kinda pushed at you, and the scripture commercial screens are a bit much. I just didn't care to waste another hour watching it, so to me I gave it only a two.

Great Romantic Story with Dogs!

I loved the movie and the backdrop of a rescue organization. I also loved the chemistry of Ash Tsai and Eric Guilmette. Very wholesome story where the lead seems so sweet. I love all the sweaters.

The other actors were also believable but had limited lines. Most of the dialogue is with the romantic couple.

The well behaved retriever was really adorable and a very good actor. The other pets also performed well. The script could have included more pets and that would have been fun. Everyone loves a dog video and a dog in a movie doing funny things is definitely a way to make things go viral. Bad dogs can be fun.

Heartwarming and Realistic

Absolutely LOVED this story and how it evolved! The story begins at the moment the future sweethearts meet and follows the journey of how they figure out that they are in love with each other. Cute, realistic, Christmas but not Christmas crazy, and extremely realistic to how "real life love" transpires. Eric and Ash do a fantastic job making their characters come to life--- refreshing to see young actors and actresses who are so talented and able to capture the hearts of the audience! The supporting cast is fabulous as well! Cannot go wrong spending your time watching this heartwarming and realistic movie. And Kuddos to "real faith" interplayed throughout--- ABSOLUTELY REFRESHING!

Dogs, Christmas, and Eric!!

What a heartwarming story! Such an important message anytime, but, especially during the Christmas season. Eric Guilmette was excellent and genuine at bringing to life Caleb and the impact of an injured veteran and how a canine companion can make a difference to so many. Ash Tsai and Eric had a dynamic chemistry that made this holiday film so special. I loved that they brought to the forefront the needs of our military veterans who can be helped in recovery with care and dignity by the love and service of a pet. Get ready to cuddle with your furry friend and to get all the feels as you watch this amazing show.

Believable and cute

Caleb is as an army vet recovering from an injury who ends up helping Amber with her pet shelter. They did a really good job of making the lead characters likable. The plot developed realistically while managing to be simple and lighthearted. It's fun to root for Amber and Caleb as they come up with creative ideas to save the shelter.

I appreciate the Christian moments in these GAC movies. Caleb leaning on his pastor friend he knows from being in war felt very natural. The writing was well done in general.

It's a very sweet movie. It has cute animals and a cute couple with great chemistry. Tails of Christmas left me feeling good.

Dogs and Christmas!

This had the ingredients of a great Christmas movie, but had a few weaknesses. The female lead was lovely and believable. Her face and demeanor exuded empathy for the animals, especially the doggies, as well as for her family and friends. She was amazingly good for the role. However, the male lead, though very nice looking, was often wooden in his acting. Not always, but often.

The movie was a bit too religious for my taste, but that's fine; it's a Christmas movie. But the scenes with the dogs were the best. It was such a feel-good movie, with all the characters and several of the dogs being happy and successful. I loved the two lead dogs, Leo and especially Rex. Just wish the male lead was a better actor.

Feel Good Christmas movie

What a sweet movie! I loved the leads. I've read how some of the other reviews think that the leads weren't acting the parts like pros and disagree completely. Eric's character, a veteran, I think was played beautifully. Stilted personality, stiff in new surroundings, but then becomes more comfortable and comes out of his shell. The female lead was meant to be driven and bubbly and I feel like she played the role well to. It's a perfectly sweet Christmas movie! I will never understand why some people think every movie should be Oscar worthy and not just good clean entertainment. Tails of Christmas will be on my go to list for years to come during the holidays! And the cute dogs made it even better!

Sweet movie!

It was a really sweet and emotional xmas movie. The acting of the lead actress was not so good in contrast with the lead actor Eric Guilmette who was much better and I think the fact that was a little bit not so expressive was because the role was like that. My opinion is that Eric Guilmette is an one of the rasing actor stars. As for the movie the most important message for me was the love for everyone, animals ,humans everyone and this is Christmas about...LOVE! Dogs were really cute especially Rex was adorable maybe because I love golden retriever and I was like "give this to me please if anyone doesn't want him😂"
