The film is inspired by the 1993 case of Joey Fischer, who was murdered by hired killers employed by Dora Cisneros, the mother of Joey's ex-girlfriend Christina. While the killers fled to Mexico, Cisneros and her other accomplices were convicted and imprisoned.
