Going into this, I'll be honest - my expectations were low. When I first heard the Black Dagger Brotherhood books were being adapted, I didn't expect much, especially given the challenges of translating such a beloved series and the likelihood of a smaller budget.
But after following a few behind-the-scenes clips and teasers on TikTok, I was surprised by the production quality. Considering the probable budget constraints, the results are genuinely impressive. As a long-time fan of the books, just seeing these characters brought to life on screen was exciting - but what really surprised me was how decent the first episode actually was!
Most of the acting was solid, with Beth, Darius and butch standing out in particular - they felt authentic and grounded. Wrath came across a little flatter by comparison, but I think that's more a challenge of the medium than the performance. In the books, so much of Wrath's complexity is internal, and it's hard to translate that depth without access to his thoughts. I get why that might come off differently on screen.
The lead Lesser(forgive me, I forget his name) was genuinely fantastic. Creepy, unsettling, exactly what you want from a villain. And Billy? I already hate him, but in the best way possible. That's clearly the point, and it's working.
All in all, I think the show has done incredibly well with what they had to work with, and I believe fans of the series will be happy. I really hope they get the chance to continue and find their rhythm - to fall into their own as a show. Yes, at times the dialogue can feel a bit forced, and there are moments where non-readers might struggle with the world-building, but honestly, those are minor flaws. Especially for a project on a lesser-known streaming platform like Passionflix.
Given the source material, the passion behind the project, and the clear effort from the cast and crew, they've done a great job. Here's hoping for more seasons!

Bringing a decades old book series to a TV series that has a huge, dedicated fan base is difficult enough. Then add the challenge of the main male characters as these huge 6'5" vampires built like tanks, it really makes casting agents cringe. I'll be honest and say that I wasn't too hopeful when the early set photos were released. This cast put in the work to learn their characters. Tosca worked with JR Ward to really get the script and sets right. Episode 1...they nailed it. This is the first book adaptation that really stayed true to the book, using the same dialog from the book, and involved the author with casting and script approval. PassionFlix doesn't have the budget like the major channels like HBO, Starz, Netflix, etc, but then again, there would be too much interference and fans wouldn't get to see the real Black Dagger Brotherhood that we love. I've seen episode 2 and loved it. Can't wait until Thursday...or Wednesday night just past midnight for episode 3.
At long last.... I have Hoped and prayed the series would stick to the story. The characters I have known so well now more than just a voice inside my mind. The series is like the vision I have seen while reading has come to life. Yes, the costumes might feel a bit off and the acting isn't Hollywood superstar level but despite its quirky moments I LOVE it!!!!!
I hope we will see future season telling the full story of each of the Brotherhood's characters. From page to screen took a while but these stories need to be told across both mediums. Ow that I've had a taste I will be back for each and every episode.
More more more please!

This series is the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. The book series is incredible and this series on Passionflix is staying true to the books making it amazing! The cast is spectacular! The special effects, the directing, the score and episodes are truly outstanding! If you have not jumped into this world by any means, this will reel you in quickly and prompt you to read the books as well. Each episode leaves you wanting for more and more. The episodes drop at 12:01am Thursday mornings and I am there for it and will continue to be! The BDB fan base crashed the sight the first day the first episode dropped! Come join this outstanding journey!
Tosca and JR Ward did an excellent job of capturing the magic of this world and bringing it to life on screen. The brothers are fabulous!!! Everything is exactly as I imagined it as I read this book series. This was always my favourite book series and I was a little apprehensive about how it was going to be portrayed but all my expectations were exceeded. I am looking forward to seeing each brothers books brought to life on the screen. I am currently dreaming everything BDB lately and can't wait to see where Tosca and JR Ward take this series. I hope this is going to continue to be produced for many years to come.
