Always funny. Sam and Tom's banter is so good! Such a relief to see good quality tv amongst all the reality garbage that is served up. It will be a shame for this to end. You get a bit of news but in a funny and light hearted manner.
This show is an attempt at a comedic look at last week's news in Australia. It's based on one of those high-paced morning radio formats, where everything is delivered at very fast pace in small bites. If you like your jokes to be delivered fast in large quantities, then you'll enjoy the show. Some of the segments can be genuinely funny (they do quizzes like 'supermarket own brand or sports celebrity?' -or a variant thereof- that can bring a smile or two), but the show is let down by the editorial choice to pander too much to tabloid/reality TV for cross-promotion purposes -love island is too much of a cheap target for genuinely funny one-liners. It's watchable, and as I said funny at times, but it lacks the sophistication and ironic de-construction carried by 'Mad as Hell' and 'The Weekly' (both on the ABC).
The NZ version is a carbon copy.
7/10
This comes from the D-Generation comedy team, and they seem to be the only decent creative comedy producers in Australia.
An experienced host, Tom Gleisner, with good timing teams up well with the 5 comedy contestants. 2 of the comedy contestants are regulars. Sam Pang plays the role of the bitter comedian well and plays well with Tom, the host. Ed Cavalee is another who works well, but lately he appears to just be phoning it in. The other 3 contestants are a forever rotating selection of Australian comedians. The producers do a great job of rotating and selecting a vast selection of comedians. Some are new and upcoming, some are regular television personalities, while others are 30+ years experienced in tv, radio and stand up comedy.
Mixed together, they work well insulting each other, the host and the guests in a friendly jocular way while also making jokes at the week's recent events. What makes the show work is that some jokes don't work and the others will pick up the dead air and make a pun to quickly move on from the unfunny.
It's basically like sitting around chatting humourously about the week's events with a gameshow thrown into there. The gameshow is just a by-product as Ed always wins and Sam never does.... expect once.

My family and I love tuning into HYBPA on a Monday night. A hilarious, witty show that doesn't take itself too seriously. Bonus points if you HAVE been paying attention and know the news story they're referencing.
The only reason for the 9 instead of a 10 is that very rarely there will be a boring panel, but the regulars and friends of the show are always great.
