I'm delighted with this series. It doesn't show all aspects like making meals, outhouse or day to day chores but it gives people a bit of an idea about the Canadian North. These are hard people, make no mistake. The various personalities are well chosen. Very impressed with every one of them. It is a hell of a task to start the projects so late in the year. Not quite sure what the point of this was except to put additional stress with the cold weather. Thank goodness some of them had some extra help. Especially Margot with the roof. I have a feeling this show could get a pretty good following. I home they keep the series going.
Watching how people can still live off the land is just amazing. Most don't have the lifelong knowledge passed on from generation after generation of doing so, so they have to learn as they go and it shows.
Margot was the one doing the roughest living, least amount of tools to make do. Whilst she had the least, she obviously wasn't quite as alone and without supplies as the show tried to indicate. In one shot when she's talking about the moose hunting marsh, when the drone pans out you can clearly see a well used dirt road and she claimed that the site was practically next to her camp. Also she was never shown taking fuel into or storing it for the chainsaw, but definitely did more than a little cutting with one.
Matty had some money but unlike the other reviewer said, I don't think he was aiming to live the roughest life possible like Margot, only that he enjoyed living in woods very basically and a little help from machinery was most definitely welcomed.
Emilie and Gilbert, and Billy had the weakest/easiest living of the 4 groups.
Emilie and Gilbert had a lot of hardware store supplies and really didn't even seem to be in a hurry with anything they did.
Billy didn't have as much wooden hardware materials, but he also didn't give the impression of actually living in the woods either and seemed to skip from random task to random task and none of them really helped much, when you could tell more pressing things should have been prioritized.
