"One Night in Idaho..." is quite tastefully and beautifully done, with sensitivity to the four students' loved-ones... The right amount of time has passed to do this, and it truly needed the four full parts to carefully go through everything. Also extremely poignant and touching beyond words -- and though it is still 'raw' and difficult, the four students' loved-ones shared truthfully and straightforwardly with heart, soul, and spirt. Really appreciated delving into special and sometimes cute & humerus details about each of the belov-ed lost friends and family-members. (One little small example is that, since i too have always emptied the Taco Bell sauce packets totally so that there's no need for that "paperwork" while eating, i will forevermore think of Ethan when getting things at Taco Bell.) Many aspects of Ethan, Kaylee, Maddie, and Xana are endearing and also resonate with me. Am grateful to now know much more of their awesome natures and spirits of living... Thank you for all who developed and participated in this lovingly-done series.
Well... in my opinion, this documentary was done too early, then the younger interviewers saying "like" every 2 words, they say the same things over and over, there was a lot of filler, this could have been done in 2-3 episodes easy.
It didnt really captivate me or pull me in at all. Dont get me wrong, the story blew me away I didnt even know it happened, but the documentary itself was poorly done and annoyed me more than anything, I forwarded many scenes saying to myself... come on get on with it. At episode 4 I shut it off as I felt as if I watched the same movie 3 times and ran out of patience to finish it.
Netflix documentaries are the best ones to watch in my opinion. Always intense and pulls you in from the beginning and they are only as long as necessary.

Very good documentary series. The interviews with the family and friends are heart breaking. I can't imagine what they've gone through.
I am glad this series spent time on not just the events and the perpetrator but also the family and friends. They are victims too. Victims of media and social media as well. The online culture we've allowed to take root in our society is despicable sometimes. Seeing what true crime "influencers" put these people through is just so hard to watch. The speculation, false information, accusations... it's so wrong. I hope that we can do something to make that stop.

Though the episodes held my interest to a point, I was driven nearly insane by the constant inarticulateness of the students being interviewed. Every single one of them spoke exactly like this:
"Then I was like, he's a creep, he's like, so like creepy and like, I told my friends, like, 'whatever' and like, I felt so like empty inside.'"
I literally counted the use of "like" in every interview and it was shocking and irritating to someone who doesn't speak like this. My heart breaks for these kids but for God's sake, please broaden your horizons and learn to speak proper English.
I would like to have heard more about Kohberger since evil and mental illness are more compelling than endless students in repetitive interviews.

On the one hand, you have to say, what about the victims? After a while only the killer gets centered on while the victims remain one-dimensional, and are just doomed people at the wrong place at the wrong time, and it's unfair...
But when you are making a documentary on a hot-topic murder case, you have to be balanced on both the victim and the killer, since everything and everyone connects...
Here we get to know the victims' friends and family, which is a good thing... but what drives the interest is what made these victims victims in the first place...
Bryan Kohberger was an unattractive loser who lashed out at four beautiful human beings (envy is behind most of these murders, even the Manson Family), and they do delve into him and what led to his arrest...
But this four-part miniseries/documentary should/could have been 2-episodes, one on the victims, one on the killers, and then connect everything for the last 10 minutes...
Instead the entire fourth-episode feels like that 10 minutes stretched into an hour... You feel for the family, especially the parents, but the interest behind their sorrow and the overall tragedy just isn't there, in sharp enough perspective to make for an effective glimpse into this true crime subject...
For any true crime doc you need an edge lurking throughout... and not just showing the ghoul who committed the murders, with his shield-shaped face and close-set piercing eyes and giant schnoz, but perhaps center on the investigation more...
Sadly, the release of this particular doc is another case of putting something out too soon... The big news is that the creep got out of the death penalty (which shows how effective it is since NO MURDERER WANTS TO DIE THAT WAY), which makes what you're watching basically, yesterday's papers...
There was a gag order in place, so the most important person, the witness, cannot talk, but had the producers waited until after the trial, this thing would have a beginning, middle and end instead of a prolonged middle...
Sympathy for the victims and family is good but you can't stretch anything for too long, and that's the problem here, so, basically, what should have been great for the families is just frustrating for the viewer.
