Beneath

Before I started watching this movie, I had no idea that it was animated, I think probably in a video game engine (maybe Unreal Engine 5?); but then again, even the IMDb entry doesn't mention this, and even gives a filming location for the submarine interiors (maybe for motion capture?). The animation is fairly good, although some of the facial animations area little weird, especially for Mira. The plot is a fairly interesting and moderately realistic-seeming tale of exploration in the solar system that happens more-or-less in real time: although the idea that neither crew member had met or even knew anything about each other until the moment that the mission started seems bizarre. Does the mothership crew just pluck a pilot-engineer and mission specialist from cryosleep, and pop them into the lander without even waking them up? Yes, there is some plot relevance to this, but it's still stupid. But, this aside, it was an engaging and entertaining science fiction movie that didn't overstay its runtime.
