Everyone’s getting into the holiday movie game now, bringing Hallmark competition for must-watch programming over the fall and winter months. But is Hallmark still the reigning champion, or have Lifetime or Netflix come out on top for 2024? Hallmark once again had the numbers, with nearly 50 films debuting across Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mystery, and Hallmark+. Four of Hallmark Channel’s most popular actors—Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker, Kimberley Sustad, and Paul Campbell held a screening for their new film, Three Wiser Men and a Boy, on Friday evening of the con. The movie is the sequel to the 2022 film Three Wise Men and a Baby. The Brenner brothers are back and putting on a holiday pageant for young Thomas while trying to cope with life’s curveballs, including their mom’s new boyfriend. Margaret Colin stars as the brother’s mom, Barbara, in both movies.

Every year, you know you can tune in to Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Mystery and have quite the pick of holiday movies between “Countdown to Christmas” and “Miracles of Christmas.” And every year, you know you end up having your favorite and the one you think was the best of the batch. With 47 new movies across the two linear networks and the streaming service Hallmark+, there are quite a number of contenders. When Hallmark+ was announced in summer 2024, it was revealed that Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas movies would not be added to the app.

“‘Countdown to Christmas’ remains a linear experience,” Hallmark Media’s EVP of Programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly told Variety at the time.

She added, “The content on the app is going to be Holidazed, Mistletoe Murders, our unscripted shows and a couple of movie trilogies coming up that we haven’t announced yet. There’s going to be a bunch of holiday content, but it’s going to be separate and different from what’s on linear.”

Well, Hallmark is giving fans a special gift before Christmas by adding nearly all of this year’s new movies.

15 movies have already been added and there are 24 more movies being added on Friday (December 20).

Hallmark+ is available for $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Subscribers will also get Hallmark Store rewards for having a membership.

Exclusive: Three Wiser Men and a Baby producer Lighthouse Pictures has upped Trevor McWhinney to SVP of Content.

McWhinney was previously the Canadian studio’s VP of Business Development and VP of Production. His new gig will see him oversee Lighthouse’s strategy for developing and producing original TV movies. He will collaborate with writers, clients and producers on new projects, from the development stage through to greenlight, while focusing on discovery and mentorship of new creative talent.

McWhinney is the creator and producer behind Gotta Grudge?, which aired in 12 countries and led to a deal on the hit series Dragon’s Den. His promotion comes as part of the company’s global expansion strategy, it said. Lighthouse recently promoted Jameson Parker to CEO after Martini Film Studios took a majority stake.

The network’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” lineup has been organized, with 47 all-new original movies across the Hallmark Channel, streamer Hallmark+’s “The Very Merry Holiday Collection” and Hallmark Mystery’s “Miracles of Christmas”.

The 15th iteration of the Hallmark Channel’s festive slate kicks off on October 18 on the Hallmark Channel with all-new movies every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. on the Hallmark channel and Thursdays at 8 p.m. on Hallmark Mystery, with a Wednesday 8 p.m. launch Thanksgiving week. It may only be July, but fans of Christmas are already clamoring for Hallmark’s festive schedule. Whether airing on Hallmark Channel or Hallmark+ a list is exciting and that’s without mentioning Countdown to Christmas and its 15th anniversary.

The Christmas Quest

Plot: An archaeologist (Chabert) and her former husband (Polaha), an expert in ancient Norse languages, travel to Iceland at Christmas time to search for a legendary treasure.

Meanwhile, when other people join the hunt, the couple finds themselves enjoying a thrilling adventure as they race to keep the treasure from falling into the wrong hands.

Three Wiser Men & a Boy...

The Amazon dark comedy pilot “The Nightbeast” has added three new series regulars to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.

Cory Michael Smith, Michael Dorman, and Miles Marthaller will all star in the pilot alongside previously announced lead Tatiana Maslany.

Maslany will star as Amy, described as “a young mother unsatisfied with her seemingly perfect suburban life who begins an affair with the boogeyman in her son’s closet – a surprisingly sexy man called the Nightbeast. But this harmless affair she thought to be a figment of her imagination begins to have unexpected consequences, as her two worlds increasingly begin to collide in this seductive, darkly comedic tale.”

Smith will star as the titular Nightbeast. Dorman will play Eric, Amy’s husband, while Marthaller will play Miles, Amy and Eric’s son.

Now, Hallmark has decided to give the guys a turn in a rom-com comedy, The Groomsmen. The movies were announced during the network’s Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday. Meanwhile, the cast is Jonathan Bennett, Tyler Hynes and B.J. Britt as the hunky groomsmen themselves.
