In spite of the stellar cast, not just a few major Hollywood personalities, but five or six big-time actors, this series does not serve up a very entertaining experience. I've seen a hundred shows better than this in the same genre.
I made it through about half of episode four, and realized that I had wasted hours of precious life. Just because Banks and Biel are sisters in the story with interesting contrasts of character, doesn't mean they can force more stimulation out of the anemic narrative. Sure enough, the story is slow and somewhat mundane for a murder mystery.
Why is this show even on television? We are so accustomed to more intrigue and suspense without all the fluff and filler. This should be four episodes at most. I'm done with it.
After watching Lincoln Lawyer and True Detective and Fargo and The Sinner (season one with Biel-fantastic) and even Girl on a Train (not great), The Better Sister is not what I would prescribe for your mystery thriller cravings.

I'm on Episode Four
I'll add more stars if this happens to pick up. The actors keep me invested (amomg more than one of my personal favorites are featured). The music & relatable moments hook me back whenever I am disillusioned. The book was a COVID read for me and a personal connection to the story.
I stay for the theatrical representation because of the book's impact. The actors save so many poorly executed scenes and dialogue, clichés. Make no mistake about that.
There are minimum required characters to leave a review. I try to avoid spoilers when leaving comments. I am not a skilled writer, nor articulate critic.
In spite of that, whenever I'm asked, "What did you think" or requested to share my thoughts, my reply is always, "Do you want me to say what I think or tell you how you did?"
There's a big difference between those answers.

So tired of of excitedly opening a "new" series only to find it is a poorly dubbed series from 20__ and from country _____ not new or original or exciting. From the VERY FIRST 5 MINUTES I WAS GLUED TO MY SCREEN! Before I started episode 2 I checked to see if 1) all episodes had dropped and 2) if there were 8 full episodes...YES TO BOTH. AND THEY ARE A TWISTY SHOCKING KEEP YOU GUESSING GREAT LIKE A SUMMER BEACH READ THRILLER! Jessica Biehl plays the overachieving from nothing pleaser that thought she had worn the mask of perfection so well nnothing could happen or go wrong. And WOW Elizabeth Banks is all over the place as the drug addict trying to protect but bearing a burden no child should -living in Ohio with her mother also keeping the same secret and burden. This is Elizabeth Banks like we have never seen her.
At the core of this movie is what we hide, what lie about, who we betray and in the end who we can count on...if anyone...and what people do for money, for family and for image. Mostly what we do for love and what is love.

I just finished watching The Better Sister, and I was completely hooked from start to finish. The storytelling is sharp and layered, with just the right balance of suspense, emotion, and drama. The performances are phenomenal-each actor brings depth and complexity to their character, especially in how the dynamics between the sisters unfold. It's a gripping, well-acted thriller that kept me hooked the whole way through. The family drama, secrets, and twists are all so well done! It's smart, emotional, and full of surprises. What I really loved was how the show explored loyalty, betrayal, and family secrets without relying on clichés. Every episode left me wanting more, and the twists actually felt earned. It's rare to find a thriller that combines character-driven writing with such a strong plot. Highly recommend if you love complex characters and suspense!
Loved this so much I binged from start to finish.
Incredible job with casting - Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel had great chemistry as sisters and I loved their banter. The rest of the cast was an incredible group of actors that all brought something unique to the story. I particularly loved all the Easter eggs and plan to rewatch to find the ones I missed the first time because they're so good and clearly what AI can't accomplish. As a fan of Alafair's book, I was skeptical about the series but those concerns were quickly replaced by entertainment as I watched each episode. Highly recommend to all!
