A Complete Entertainer: Dragon Roars for the Young Generation

Only a few movies are better than their trailers, and when we saw the Dragon trailer, many of us thought it resembled Sivakarthikeyan's Don. While Dragon shares some similarities in its story and first half, it ultimately turned out to be something entirely different.

The story of Dragon (whose real name is Ragavan, and you'll find out why he's called Dragon when you watch the movie) revolves around him having 48 arrears during his college life. He is determined not to finish them unless his life reaches a critical situation.

Director Ashwath Marimathu, along with Pradeep Ranganathan, wrote this feel-good story and executed it well with his audience-friendly screenplay.

Pradeep's acting is much better than in Love Today, though his dance could still improve.

Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar are the leading actresses in this movie, with Anupama playing a more prominent role than Kayadu. Both performed their roles well.

George Maryan, who played Pradeep's father, delivered a powerful performance, and the emotional scenes between them resonate with the audience.

Mysskin's role as the college dean is his best performance in his acting career.

Gautam Menon, Harshath Khan, V. J. Siddhu, and K. S. Ravikumar all performed well in their respective roles.

Leon James' music plays an essential part in shaping the emotional atmosphere of the movie, and overall, his BGM is a pleasant experience for the ears, instead of the harsh sounds like Dragon's roar.

On the technical side, the visuals are colorful and flawless.

The first half of Dragon is filled with the ups and downs of college life, love, and irresponsibility in fulfilling duties.

The second half of Dragon gives the movie real meaning, with emotional moments, plenty of comedy, and a perfect climax.

Dragon delivers a clear message about the importance of education.

All in all, Dragon is a must-watch movie that's best experienced on the big screen.

Ashwath's vision makes Dragon cross the success line

Life may not be the same for everyone, but it offers fair opportunities to succeed and redeem ourselves for a better future-if we are willing to acknowledge our mistakes and embrace honesty.

In his debut directorial, Ashwath explored the essence of life, and with Dragon, he delves deeper into how life constantly presents chances for redemption. The film emphasizes that success isn't about shortcuts but about facing one's past and making amends.

The protagonist, Pradeep, leads a privileged and carefree life, pampered by his parents, friends, and girlfriend, with no real responsibilities. What makes his journey compelling is that time and again, life gives him opportunities to change, but he continuously seeks shortcuts to success. The film revolves around the consequences he faces when his past mistakes catch up with him.

Pradeep, who was previously criticized for imitating actors like Dhanush and SJ Suryah in Love Today, has visibly worked on his craft in Dragon. His performance in emotional, comedic, and intense sequences reflects a more refined and unique approach.

The first half showcases how the protagonist builds his life on deception, while the second half presents him with a chance to make things right. The question remains-does he truly embrace redemption?

Overall, Dragon is a film that encourages introspection, reminding us that real success lies not in avoiding mistakes but in learning from them.

A Youthful Drama That Sparks with Heart and Humor

"Dragon" (2025) is a Tamil film that captures the essence of college life with a blend of humor, heart, and relatable characters. While the film may not reinvent the wheel in terms of storytelling, its charming performances and heartwarming message make it an enjoyable and engaging watch.

Pradeep Ranganathan delivers a charismatic and relatable performance as Raghavan, a college student navigating the ups and downs of friendship, love, and career aspirations. His portrayal of a young man struggling to find his place in the world is both engaging and emotionally resonant.

The film's exploration of college life, with its friendships, rivalries, and romantic entanglements, is relatable and nostalgic, evoking a sense of familiarity for those who have experienced the joys and challenges of this formative period. The supporting cast delivers decent performances, adding depth and diversity to the narrative.

While the film's pacing may falter at times, particularly in the college portions, the overall narrative remains engaging and entertaining. The film's emotional core, centered around the themes of honesty, sacrifice, and parental love, is well-intentioned and delivers some genuinely touching moments.

The film's humor is lighthearted and often laugh-out-loud funny, adding to its overall charm. The climax is particularly well-executed, offering a satisfying resolution to the characters' journeys and leaving viewers with a sense of hope and optimism.

Overall, "Dragon" is a heartwarming and entertaining film that celebrates the spirit of youth and the importance of pursuing one's dreams. Its charming performances, relatable characters, and positive message make it a worthwhile watch for those seeking a feel-good cinematic experience.

More than a movie

As a college student, watching Dragon felt like someone had peeked into my life and turned it into a movie only way more entertaining and heartfelt! This Tamil gem, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and starring Pradeep Ranganathan, hit me right in the feels with its perfect mix of humor, drama, and those emotional punches that make you want to call your parents and say, "Thanks for everything."Dragon isn't just a movieit's a reminder that it's okay to mess up, as long as you find your way back. For a college student like me, caught between exams, breakups, and figuring out life, it was the heartwarming boost I didn't know I needed. Grab your friends, hit the theater, and let this one melt your heart-you won't regret it!

One of the most enjoyable Tamil films in recent times.

The masses will find this to be one of the most enjoyable Tamil films in recent times. At the very least, people who can't relate, will not have much to complain about, which automatically makes it one of the best Tamil films in recent times.

Nothing new story wise, but, the way in which its told makes all the difference. Youth makkall are about to take this film and PR to heights higher than Love Today did.

Whether you watch it in the theater, or watch it on Netflix once it's out, do so with a group of people (who liked Love Today type films) because the collective experience of this film is bound to make you enjoy it more. The more, the merrier, so theater I suppose. You will not be disappointed.

Dragon gets better in the second half. [+63%]

I feel Dragon is a film that's saved by its second half. Maybe I was wrong in anticipating a full-fledged comedy entertainer (like those mid-2000s to mid-2010s Dhanush flicks), but Ashwath Marumuthu's second film is a proper emotional drama. Its first-half college portions were dull for me, but the film takes flight once the redemption arc is front and center. The writing, except for the final act, feels a tad too convenient-it simply breezes through the struggle of finding a job, but makes passing college exams sound like the toughest thing in the world-not true in 2025, bro!

Pradeep Ranganathan has a limited acting range (for now), and thankfully, the screenplay focuses on his strengths. Conversely, the ladies are merely supporting actors in the overall scheme of things, existing to solidify Dragon (..and his inimitable bad-boy aura). Anupama certainly has more to do than Kayadu Lohar, and it's certainly one of her finer roles in recent times. Both look absolutely dashing, however. The real acting standout undoubtedly is Mysskin as principal Mayilvahanan, bringing an almost Raju Hirani-esque character to life with ease. Bjorn Surrao is also fun in an early scene, while seeing Gautham Menon dance is a delight.

The key supporting acts, VJ Siddhu & Harshath, are merely okay. Leon James' music and score seem to suit the material fairly well, especially the Vazhithunaiyae track. I see where the appeal for a film like this comes from; given both Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan have moved on to more intense acting roles, there's always a space for breezy, coming-of-age drama in Tamil cinema. If not for the all-too-convenient writing in the first half, I think I'd have liked Dragon a lot more.

Super ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The story, acting, screenplay and direction is all top notch. You'll run through a mix of emotions while watching this movie. The movie is emotional, delivers a good message and has blend of humour at the same time. The best 2.5 hours that I could spend on a Sunday afternoon. Actor Pradeep has done a commendable job and I believe it is a must watch.

The movie revolves around a man who abandons his education and then moves on secure a high paying job by unethical means. His life takes a turn when he is at the risk of getting exposed.

The movie delivers a message that no matter how many mistakes you have done in life, if you can own upto them you can still achieve whatever you want.

A re-release of SK DON but more realistic and fun filled

A fun filled youth movie with a different attempt at current generation of youths and their approach to life.. I was thinking how PR could get his movies as an actor but boy, he has aced with ease and I don't think anyone can do this better than him.. this story had a big resemblence with SK's DON and in fact u can map this base story exactly the same but the treatement was different and comparatively more realistic and enjoyable than DON. But like DON there were few cinmatic scenes of hero moving up the ladder in career so easily, clearing is arrears so easily which is practically impossible but just digest this being a cinema....but common message conveyed in both movies of importance of education at that age... Message not preached but communicated as fun...Never liked MYSSKIN ever as director actor ... He is a the pillar of this movie who has graced the same role of SJ SURYA in DON but done it much better... A couple of songs were melodious and rest passable.... Overall a reliving of DON in a different but an interesting template . Watchable sans some cinematic cringes and for the whole cast which are youthful..

A Satisfying Entertainer

Ashwath Marimuthu's Dragon is a coming-of-age comedydrama that starts off slow and takes its time, but once it picks up, it knocks it out of the park. The film balances humor and emotions very well. Although the first half is a little lengthy and includes some convenient plot points, the film takes off with a hell of an interval and delivers the perfect mix of emotions in its second half. The humor feels organic, and the Little Dragon arc was specifically our favorite. The emotional quotient is also well executed, especially the father-son relationship. The songs are good, whereas the score is amazing. Both the editing and camerawork are commendable. The film has many clapworthy sequences, including the narration fight, along with plenty of meta humor that works in its favor.

Pradeep Ranganathan delivers yet another amazing performance. His expressions and body language bring out the right emotions needed for the character. Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar deliver very good performances. Mysskin, Harshath Khan, and George Maryan stand out in the supporting cast, and we absolutely loved their performances. The rest of the supporting cast does a good job too. The casting of the film is spot-on. The second half has enough gags to keep you laughing, and the climax has the right mix of emotions, leaving you with teary eyes as you exit the theatre. Overall, we really enjoyed the film and would highly recommend watching it in theatres.

Nostalgia, Charm, and a Breezy Watch!

It is a good time-pass, feel-good movie that brings back nostalgic memories of college and IT life, making it relatable for many. The film strikes a balance between charm and realism, with two beautiful heroines adding extra appeal, complementing a not-so-good-looking yet fitting hero.

Despite its length, the movie never feels boring. While it could have been trimmed by 20 minutes, the final 20 minutes make up for it, ensuring a satisfying watch. The performances are commendable, with almost the entire cast delivering well. Overall, Dragon is a one-time watch that entertains without over-promising.

Engaging, Relatable, and Meaningful - A College Story Done Right!

I didn't pay much attention when Return of the Dragon (Dragon in Tamil) was released a couple of days ago since it was a dubbed film. Though actor Pradeep Ranganathan became a sensation with his second movie Love Today, for some reason, I wasn't inclined to watch this one initially. However, after hearing good feedback, I decided to give it a shot and see what he had done differently this time. And he didn't disappoint.

After the massive success of Love Today, Pradeep has once again delivered a solid coming-of-age story that resonates with students and the general audience alike. It's refreshing to see a film set in a college backdrop that brings something new to the table. We've seen many college-based films before, some with similar themes-like Raghuvaran B. Tech and Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule-which made me wonder what more could be explored in this setting. Usually, college stories revolve around politics, romance, and struggles, but Pradeep and director Ashwath have managed to present a fresh perspective.

The film follows Raghavan, a once-brilliant student in his 12th grade who turns into a rebellious college student nicknamed "Dragon." Influenced by his high school crush's remark that girls prefer rugged guys over studious ones, he goes down the wrong path, accumulating 48 backlogs in his engineering course. Despite this, he secures a software job using fake certificates. The real story unfolds when his principal discovers the deception and gives him an ultimatum-clear his backlogs or face the consequences.

The narrative has multiple layers. One explores his breakup with Anupama Parameswaran's character and how it impacts him. Another focuses on his loving and supportive parents, who stand by him despite his declining academic performance. Then there's his close-knit group of friends, who stay together and support each other. The character of a junior student who idolizes "Dragon" and becomes a mini version of him adds another interesting dynamic. The title Return of the Dragon is beautifully justified within the story.

If you have studied engineering or medicine, you've likely encountered students who were toppers in school but lost their way in college, ending up with backlogs due to bad influences or habits. I've seen such cases in my own college-students with sharp minds but the wrong company leading them astray. The film also highlights a common reality: during college, girls often admire the daring, carefree boys who skip classes and appear cool, but when it comes to marriage, they prefer stable, career-oriented men, even if they look less appealing. This irony is depicted beautifully in the movie. Additionally, it touches on the impatience of today's youth, who look for shortcuts-like fake certificates and proxy interviews-to secure jobs. This aspect feels incredibly relevant in today's world.

The movie ends on a strong, philosophical note, delivering an important message: if you build your life or career on lies, you'll never find true happiness. Deep down, you'll always know it's fake, and it can all collapse at any moment. A college degree might not seem glamorous, but an honest life and career bring genuine satisfaction and peace.

Though the film is tailored for today's youth, it never crosses the line into vulgarity, double-meaning dialogues, or forced comedy. Instead, it subtly imparts valuable lessons. A couple of standout scenes include one where Raghavan refuses a tequila shot at a pub because he has to drive his fiancée home and another where he warns his friend "Chota Dragon" against driving drunk. These moments deliver important messages without feeling preachy. This proves that with creativity, filmmakers can craft engaging stories that connect with the youth without resorting to cheap gimmicks.

As for performances, Pradeep Ranganathan impresses once again. He reminds me of Tamil superstars like Rajinikanth and Dhanush-not because of his looks but due to his acting prowess and ability to express a range of emotions. He even throws self-deprecating satire about his lean frame, which adds to his charm. This film has earned him my respect for both his story choices and his acting skills, and I eagerly look forward to his future projects. Anupama Parameswaran delivers a stellar performance as his love interest, bringing depth to her role. Kayadu Lohar, the second female lead, also does well, capturing attention with her screen presence. Special mention goes to George Maryan (of Kaithi and Leo fame), who shines as Raghavan's caring and supportive father. The supporting cast, especially Raghavan's group of friends, have all done a commendable job.

Director Ashwath Marimuthu, in just his second film, has handled the subject beautifully. The only aspect that could have been better is the music-while the background score is decent, the songs could have been stronger.

Overall, in an era where people often complain about a lack of fresh stories and rehashed narratives, Return of the Dragon stands out. It delivers an engaging college-based story without exaggerated elevation scenes, over-the-top villains, or unnecessary grandeur. Instead, it remains entertaining, relatable, and meaningful, ending with a powerful message. If you liked Love Today, you'll likely enjoy this film even more. I highly recommend watching it.

A Movie That Lost Its Way

Let's talk about Pradeep. What would it take for him to groom himself a bit? He looked the same in love today as well. In real life, a guy like him probably wouldn't get much attention from women. Having someone like Anupama, who is way out of his league, feels unrealistic. Maybe pairing him with someone more on his level would have been a better choice.

As for the movie, it was entertaining at times, but there were several slow moments in between that dragged the pacing. The entire fight scene in the second half was diabolical-it felt over-the-top and unnecessary, completely dropping my rating from an 8 to a 6. While the film had its moments, these flaws made it hard to fully enjoy.

A Mad, Wild Coming-of-Age Ride That Hits Hard!

So finally i watched the telugu dubbed version of 'Dragon ' in theaters starring Pradeep Ranganathan in lead, which is directed by Ashwanth Marimuthu. So if you ask me overall how was the experience watching the movie,"You wont get it even i explain...". I've just gone through one of the mad and wildest experiences which is definitely unexpected but a blast !!!

Coming to the plot,a young man lands in trouble after a crooked attempt to become successful, threatening to destroy his relationship, employment and family. That's it,what follows is a wholesome that entertains you in the finest ways.

First half of the film brilliantly sets up the things, although the proceedings or conflicts generated may feel not so groundbreaking but still keeps you hooked throughout with a decent amount of laughs and instances. This thing should seriously be addressed that film got to be one of the most engaging screenplay written in recent years where even a second doesn't feel lengthy or slow. Then comes the interval which just leaves you in awe,the turn film takes is definitely unexpected and sets up for a crucial second half. The interval ends in a bang. Then comes the second half, after a banger interval and the unique conflict generated the initial minutes of the second half also feel little random. But as the movie proceeded, the consequences and circumstances which had took place will just make you laugh, scream and most importantly relate and feel. And without hesitation i can state that this got be one of the great theatre experiences i had. Although im not watching a big commercial star or film, there was a eternal euphoria circulated in whole theatre. The theater just being errupted for every few minutes clearly defines the power of writing, people were just going wild and mad where you cant stop yourself flowing in this amusement. And definitely you end up with a heavy weight that you didn't just witnessed a mere fun film but definitely more than that.

Coming to the performances,Pradeep Ranganathan's Sambhavam every frame. A Aspiring director to a crowd pleased actor, the man reforms a performance that is just phenomenal. The showcase of a irresponsible spoiled brat to a changed ideal man, pradeep meticulously succeeds in showcasing the introspective journey in a pure essence with whole heartedly. Coming to female leads,Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar had a delivered a fine performances. Mysskin finally scores a character with potential writing and execution,he's role got to be one of the key points to the story.

Coming to technical aspects, leon james does a good job through his music. Although songs were not registered properly, the score was really effective. Cinematography was perfect and pleasing.

Coming to the director Ashwanth Marimuthu,oh my kadhavuley was just a beginning what ashwanth did through this is just a testament to brilliance and conviction. With the co writer and his friend pradeep himself, delivers a comedy drama that just unexpectedly addresses so many things like education, responsibilities, regrets more importantly life ,that are not just left attempted but excels in by creating situations and conflicts that stays with you as a life lesson. The film just builds so many setups and each and every i mean single minor thing gets its payoff which make this piece completely standout. The way the film's trailer got edited,it is definitely one of the clever move taken where film doesn't fail to surprise every minute. The writing seriously grabs the relatability that just feels too personal. And definitely it is personal when you are going through that confused state of life, where it just tries to recollect and regenerate the aspirations and perseverance that's needed for you.

At the end,Dragon is a wholesome coming of age entertainer where fun, madness and writing are at peak. And i'm really grateful to witness this in theatres with that unanimous vibe all over which is just memorable. Definitely post credit scene was just a cherry on top that leaves you speechless and a definitely a much needed banger conclusion for something like these. Don't miss it.

A Good Watch but Overrated

This movie has been receiving a lot of hype, but after watching it, I feel it doesn't entirely live up to the expectations. While it is an entertaining watch, we have seen better films in this genre that explore similar themes with more depth and emotional weight.

One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of strong emotional connections between the main characters. The bond of friendship or relationships feels underdeveloped, making it difficult to truly invest in their journey. As a result, the moments meant to evoke pain or joy fall flat, leaving little emotional impact.

However, the one standout performance that truly resonated with me was George Maryan's character. He was a delight to watch, bringing warmth and sincerity that the rest of the film lacked. His presence on screen was the only time I felt genuinely moved, and I hope to see him in more substantial roles in the future.

Overall, while the movie is enjoyable and has its moments, it is not as exceptional as it is made out to be. It's worth a watch, but there are better films that deliver a more powerful and emotionally engaging experience.

BEST Movie of the year! Feel good fun with heart warming message and multiple nail biting twists.

There wasn't one single scene in the movie which was not good. This movie is a complete package with humor, fun, action, romance, family sentiment and a good message to the audience to be truthful in life.

Pradeep's acting was extraordinary as usual and director ashwath excellent in the way he skillfully showcased this gem of a story! Every character in the movie had a major role. Especially the professor, the dad and the ex girlfriend. There were multiple cameos.

If you liked Don and Love Today you will surely enjoy this movie! The background scores and music beautifully complimented the movie.

It's an amazing stress buster movie. Worth watching in theater!

Dragon: A Fun Ride Packed with Laughs!

"Dragon" is a highly entertaining movie that offers plenty of laughs, though it takes a while to get going. At first, I wasn't completely hooked because the beginning felt a bit slow and lacked excitement. The initial scenes didn't create much anticipation, and for a moment, I wondered if the movie would live up to my expectations. However, as the story progressed, especially towards the end of the first half, things started getting much more interesting. The pace picked up, and the fun elements slowly began to shine.

Once the movie hit its stride, it became an absolute joy to watch. The humor was on point, with many laugh-out-loud moments that kept me entertained. The comedy wasn't forced, and the timing of the jokes felt natural, making it all the more enjoyable. I found myself laughing at multiple scenes, and the energy in the theater was fantastic. It's the kind of movie where the audience reacts together, making it a shared experience of fun and laughter.

One of the best parts of the movie, in my opinion, was the Premam reference. As a fan of Premam, I loved how they incorporated it into the movie. It was an unexpected but brilliant touch, and it added to the overall humor. Moments like these make the movie stand out, especially for those who enjoy such callbacks to other popular films. The way it was executed was clever and didn't feel out of place. It was a pleasant surprise and definitely one of the highlights of the film for me.

Apart from the comedy, the movie had a decent storyline as well. While it may not be the most unique or thought-provoking script, it served its purpose well. The focus was clearly on entertaining the audience, and in that regard, it succeeded. The characters were likable, and their interactions added to the fun. Even though some parts of the story felt predictable, the humor and the way the scenes were handled made up for it.

The performances were also a major plus. The actors did a great job bringing their characters to life, and their comic timing was impressive. The chemistry between the lead actors worked well, making their dialogues and interactions even funnier. It was clear that the cast had fun making the movie, and that energy translated well on screen.

Visually, the movie was well-made. The cinematography was decent, and the way certain comedic scenes were shot added to their impact. The background score complemented the humor and added to the overall vibe of the movie. The editing was crisp, especially in the second half, where the movie had a smooth flow without unnecessary drag.

Overall, Dragon is a solid entertainer that delivers exactly what it promises-lots of laughs and a fun time at the movies. If you're looking for a film with deep storytelling or intense drama, this may not be the best choice. But if you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy a lighthearted comedy with some great moments, then this movie is definitely worth watching. It's the kind of film that works best with an audience, as the laughter and reactions make the experience even better.

While the slow start might be a downside for some, once you get past that, the movie is thoroughly enjoyable. The humor, performances, and fun references make it a great pick for a casual movie night. I would definitely recommend Dragon to anyone looking for a feel-good comedy that guarantees a good laugh.

Half baked film

Expecting a repeat of Love Today, I watched this movie. This is nowhere near that movie. While Love Today had quirky comedy, good acting and a nice screenplay, this movie was devoid of all these.

Pradeep's acting range is limited, sometimes bordering cringe. Pradeep is portrayed the same way when he is jobless and also when he is earning a handsome amount. A guy who drives an Audi does not have the time or wherewithal to maintain a clean hairstyle. His unkempt hair is an eyesore throughout the movie. His principal and his boss are way better dressed than him. Even the female lead actresses are well dressed with designer clothes and well groomed. Because of this, the pairing seems mismatched. Supporting actors did their job religiously, except 'kutti Dragon's' character which was very annoying.

There were way too many unwanted songs at unwanted places, thus testing the patience of the viewer. Unnecessary fight sequences also ruined the flow of the movie.

A would-be good movie spoilt by sloppy screenplay and lengthy run-time.

Classy and Well Written Movie that Embarks Fire within

Spoiler Alert !!

Dragon is one of the most anticipated film in this year. As the Tagline associated with the film it is surely a fire and blast in it overall aspects . It really connect us with the theme and portrayal of Pradeep Ranganathan as D. Ragavan aka Dragon he literally lived as dragon in the film as the film get moving his presence and acting indulges the viewers more in to the film as for instances it makes us to jump with him in the situation where Vel makes the background check on him. Characters such as Mayilvahanan , Dhanapal and friends of dragon will really make everyone to yearn for such relationship in the Reality. Every Characters and Cast for them made this in to a sensible film and made it a memorable film which really worth a couple of shots in while.

Dragon also a well balanced film in almost every aspects from great Music and background scores , subtle action sequences which are will stitched with the story, appreciation for everyone involved in creating such a appetizing movie.

Finally I felt heart warmed with the execution and great crafted screenplay (in terms of commercial movie) almost every scene and play made its impact in the movie and that easter egg that connected with final paper it isn't predictable.

Apart from the everything i really loved the way it end and gave the foremost important attributes and changes one should evolve within.

Hatsoff to everyone involved in the splendid movie . It surely made my day thinkable and joyful.

A movie with finest climax!

What a satisfactory climax! Story revolves around how a top performing student gets deviated n gets to the top of career through fraud n how that very blunder takes 360 turn in his life. Last 30 mins climax is highly impressive, I turned very senti n ended up watching climax twice. Entire movie keeps one hooked on to the screen vowing to back to back to twists n turns. Though movie starts on a bizarre comedy note, very soon it starts touching serious realistic topics one after the other. Direction has been top notch. Lead actor Pradeep kept reminding me of Dhanush again n again. Originally a Tamil movie dubbed in all South Indian languages including Hindi. Available in Netflix, My ratings 9/10!
