फ़ीचर्ड समीक्षाएं
Not every movie needs to be deep or poetic. Sometimes, you just want pure mass entertainment, and Marana Mass delivers exactly that - with punchlines, power stances, and enough slow-motion walks to make your popcorn nervous.
It's the kind of movie where you don't overthink. You just watch.
The characters own the screen - larger than life, stylish, dramatic, and unapologetically over the top. The background score is doing 80% of the emotional heavy lifting, and honestly, that's not a complaint. It works.
Action? Check.
Catchy dialogues? Check.
Whistle-worthy moments? Plenty.
Logic? Left the theatre in the first 10 minutes - but that's part of the fun.
Is it perfect? No. The story is predictable, and there are a few dragged-out scenes that test your patience. But if you're in the mood for something mad, loud, energetic, and unapologetically "mass", this one won't disappoint.
Marana Mass is not here to win awards. It's here to entertain. And it does that pretty well.

When a TV channel interviews a serial killer to know their real pain, or when a police officer puts more effort into finding his missing dog than solving a case - or when a whole village tries to deport the hero to a faraway place because he's a nuisance - or when a popular Malayalam actor appears in an unexpected guest role... you know you're not watching an ordinary film. These kinds of weirdo things don't happen in most movies, but in Maranamass, you get to witness far more absurdity.
The first half really works and makes you smile internally just seeing how ridiculous and imaginative everything is.
The protagonist, Basil Joseph, deserves a big shoutout. He mocks himself continuously and takes digs at Gen Z concepts like how being a social media influencer doesn't always take you far, or pokes fun at the "Sigma Male" trend. He underplays himself in the second half - until the end, where the tone shifts suddenly toward heroism, which feels exaggerated and inconsistent with the earlier parts.
There are some uncomfortable moments too. One scene involving inappropriate behavior by an older man toward a girl could have been handled more sensitively. Still, the way the girl responds adds a certain boldness, and it takes guts to show something like that on screen in a comical way
The promise shown by the first half makes Maranamass feel like a mass dark comedy - even if it's not exactly "maranamass" in the traditional sense. Unfortunately, the second half loses momentum, and by the time you reach the end, you find yourself just waiting for the climax. As expected, it turns a bit too cinematic and over-the-top - a contrast to the wild but grounded absurdity that came before.
Maranamass worked for me - but it's strictly not for everyone. It's a slow-burn dark comedy. Like eating a banana with poison - weirdly, it tastes good and doesn't actually harm you.

This movie took me by surprise with its wild plot, fresh execution, and strong direction. What could have easily turned into a disaster due to its unconventional storytelling instead flourished into a gripping and cohesive experience. The filmmakers deserve credit for sticking to the core narrative while pushing boundaries in form and structure.
The music complements the film beautifully, adding emotional depth and energy to an already compelling story. While this film may not appeal to everyone-especially those looking for conventional fare-those who connect with its theme will likely find it to be pure gold within its genre. A must-watch for adventurous movie lovers.

Its not a complex film guys relax, the film was intended as a fun entertainer with lots dark humour and it works most of the time. A lot of reviews see this as some serious movie, chill out it is not. If you register it as a switch your brain off fun film then you'll have a fun time, if not as one review here said nothing will land for you. First half is filled with lots of fun moments, and by fun moments I mean lots of social media references, second half have less fun moments but it still ends nicely. Basil Joseph was fun to watch but I think more the screen presence is for the side characters.
Overall a fun watch.

Maranamass is a film that leaves you confused-not because it's deep or thought-provoking, but because it struggles to decide what it wants to be. It's neither grounded in realism nor does it dive fully into fantasy. Instead, it floats awkwardly in a middle space where nothing really sticks.
The first half is a chaos of trending social media references thrown in one after the other-memes, reels, etc. While this might have been intended to connect with a younger audience, it doesn't quite land.
Basil Joseph, who once gave us the much-loved Ponnman, feels like a completely different person here. Sadly, it's a massive downgrade. Paired with the lead actress-who also delivers a wooden performance-the duo fails to carry any scene, be it emotional or comedic.
The film tries to do a lot: mixing comedy with emotional drama, introducing several new faces, and throwing in plot after plot. Unfortunately, nothing lands. The comedy feels forced, and the emotional scenes are just... boring. At times, the two are blended together, and instead of striking a balance, it becomes a mess where neither emotion nor humor works.
Repetitive scenes, irrelevant subplots, and a frustrating climax only add to the disappointment. Maranamass is buried under weak performances, poor storytelling, and a painfully unengaging screenplay.
If you're a fan of experimental movies, you can give it a try. Otherwise, stay home and wait for it to hit OTT.
