I stumbled upon the 2023 Thai horror comedy "E-Sarn Zombie" by random chance here in 2025. And seeing it was a zombie horror comedy that I had neither seen nor heard about, of course I had to check it out. I am a big fan of Asian cinema and all things zombie, so this seemed like something that was cut out for me.
The movie was watchable, for sure, but it just ended up as being somewhat forgettable and bland. Writers Tanawat Aiemjinda, Sumith Thiangtrongjith and Aummaraporn Phandintong ultimately failed to carve out something memorable here. A shame, because there was potential for something good here, no doubt about it. But the movie suffered from being a bit pointless and seemingly running around in circles, taking the audience nowhere.
There were three familiar faces on the cast list for me, and that was Sudarat Butrprom, Pachara Chirathivat and Chaleumpol Tikumpornteerawong. The acting performances in the movie were fair, but you should keep in mind that the character gallery was somewhat of a farce, and it was difficult to take most of the characters serious. Sure, it was a horror comedy, but the characters were just too cartoony for my liking.
The effects in the movie were fair. For a zombie movie of this type, I will say that the zombie effects and make-up were adequately made.
Watchable for a single time, and that was about it. That was essentially all that director Tanawat Aiemjinda managed to deliver with "E-Sarn Zombie".
My rating of "E-Sarn Zombie" lands on a generous, but bland, five out of ten stars.
