Plot
Dracula, Werewolf, and the Invisible Man must work together to stop Dr. Frankenstein from creating an unstoppable monster.
Cast
Michael Madsen in the death throes of his career in a movie made by the same guy who gave us two awful Hansel & Gretel films and reached such pinnacles as Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark!
Verdict
Did you ever watch the mega cheesy Monster Mash The Movie from the mid 90's? Me neither though I remember seeing the trailer and thinking it looked awful. I'll put my life savings down now that movie is better than this one!
Unsurprisingly an Asylum movie, Monster Mash sees most of the classic movie monsters collide in a movie advertised as a horror but let me assure you couldn't be further from. It's like an unintentional comedy and a stupidly campy one at that.
A vampire, Dracula, Frankenstein, Frankensteins monster, wolfman, the invisible man and of course a mummy. How could this possibly be bad? Well, very easily now you ask. I mean, it's an Asylum movie the better question is surely how could it possibly be good?
The acting is hilariously poor, Madsen included as this man just doesn't try anymore and why should he? He's gone from big Hollywood mainstay to will do anything for a dollar.
The story is contrived, the execution is dreadful and I found myself simultaneously cringing and wincing at the same time throughout.
Who are these movies aimed at? Too violent for kids, too dumb for adults.
Rants
One day someone needs to sit me down and explain how The Asylum movies make money. They can't make enough off the backs of people accidentally buying their movie instead of the one they're mockbustering surely! I've seen countless and am confident they'd reach an average of the early 3.0's if I totaled them all up. Then again are they any worse than ITN, Uncorked, Scyfy themselves? Awful, awful stuff.
The Good
Well, there's a lot going on
The Bad
Dreadful acting It's all so, stupid Seeing Madsen in a film like this is unsurprising but still sad Did I mention how stupid it all is?

So bad I was laughing at myself for even watching until the end!
Like someone else mentioned it could have been great with the characters involved but the story is just all over the place and makes no sense at what some of their purpose is to assist Dracula get his daughter back and stop Frankenstein. They just seem to tag along lol! The guy who plays Dracula is probably the best thing about the movie, I feel bad that he was reduced to this role.
I literally couldn't stop laughing at how bad it was and then I just thought, well it's given me a good laugh at least.
Take it with a pinch of salt I'd say ;)

First the movie. Possibly one of the worst I have seen, and that includes my 2000+ reviews here. The lighting is so dark from scene to scene you might actually think the screen on your device has failed. The writing and acting and overall effect -- or lack of same -- will make you wish the film had originally been done in any language other than English. That way, at least, you could dismiss the end result as bad dubbing. Or bad subtitling. But none of that is "the" extraordinary thing about this film. The extraordinary thing about this release is that the marketer decided to throw all the lemons into the metaphorical blender and make lemonade. The press kit for MONSTER MASH actually touts the fact that it was shot in only 5 days -- like that is a plus! Feels more like 5 hours. Worse, some reviewers actually fell for this hustle, and praised the end result as "campy" ... and "fun". The only fun thing about this movie is pressing the STOP button and taking your trade elsewhere. Except for the marketing. The marketing is brilliant. And campy. And fun. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." Please check out my list "167+ Nearly-Perfect Movies (with the occasional Anime or TV miniseries) you can/should see again and again (1932 to the present))

Is this a joke?
I was honestly waiting for the punchline.
Waiting for the scene that would indicate this was meant as a comedy or parody of vintage Horror films.
But it never came.
The movie contains every frickin' monster Universal could imagine jammed into one film, and not comfortably.
Poor acting, poor lighting, painfully long dialogue and...Micahel Madsen.
Oh how far you've fallen from Reservoir Dogs.
This film should be dropped into a reservoir.
Listen, I think classic Universal is some of the best celluloid ever produced.
And I understood the homage paid to the classic era of monsters.
Even the scary warnings theaters used to show before a cheesy bad monster flick.
Before...before!!...not three quarters of the way into the movie!!

I saw the title and art and that was it.
I started off and I understood it was low budget. That's not my problem with it. I actually like Draculas delivery and there were some scenes I think were shot well. The Invisible Man also stood out.
Issues were its consitency. The story flow was bad. The points to move the plot forward flopped. I wish I had more characters to describe how irrational upset I was at this movie. This had a great premise and it failed to give anyone developmenm. Without spoilers I just feel they could have done a lot more for The Mummy, who I felt was just a tag along the whole way. Same with the Werewolf. This was Draculas movie and the Invisible Man helped him get there.
I honestly would have loved this movie if it sat in the camp, but it pulls away so often and takes itself seriously. Its attempts in parts to be an homage to classics didn't work out. The part with CGI was bad, but it reminded me of old 40s stop motion, so that gets no bad marks from me.
Wasted potential. Funny bits. I MST3Kd it with a friend, which took it from a 2 to a 5 for me. Cleaning up the story, embracing the camp, giving more of the characters things to do would have sent me over the moon.
I want to see more from Ethan Daniel Corbett.
Could have been an Are you Afraid of the Dark episode. Thats what this movie was.

I have to say that the movie's title made me stop and have a gander. And of course, I had to sit down and watch it, on account of it being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, and one that had icon horror creatures such as Dracula, the mummy, the werewolf, the Invisible Man and Frankenstein in it.
Sure, I had neve heard about the movie, so I didn't know what I was in for. But I have to say that with Michael Madsen being on the cover, then I wasn't really expecting a whole lot. And when the movie started and those two dreaded words, The Asylum, popped up on the screen, my expectations went from slim to none.
I can't claim to say that writer and director Jose Prendes delivered a particularly impressive script for the movie. Sure, it was watchable for the cheesy rubbish that it was, but if you're here in search for a properly entertaining creature feature, then "Monster Mash" will leave you sorely disappointed.
The narrative in "Monster Mash" is pretty sluggish and slow paced with very little of anything overly interesting happening. And that made sitting through the movie quite an ordeal.
Of the entire cast ensemble in "Monster Mash", I was actually only familiar with Michael Madsen. The acting performances in "Monster Mash" was okay. Sure, you're not in for any award-winning performances here, but the acting performances were actually fair for a movie such as what it turned out to be.
The effects in the movie were fairly okay too. Not top of the line, of course, but certainly good enough. And for a movie brought to us by The Asylum, then the effects were not too shabby, well except for that atrocious CGI animated beastial creature that looked like something from an early 1990s computer game. What were they thinking with approving that for the movie? And the scene with the giant beast and the giant bat, well that just was an eyesore. It was as if they hadn't added the final details and textures, sort of if you were looking at a rough draft of what they wanted the scene to look like.
Cheesy? Check. Low budget? Check. Enjoyable? Check, well if you enjoy these sort of dubious horror movies.
My rating of "Monster Mash" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Who was the audience supposed to be? The horror crowd?...it failed. The drama crowd?....nope. The comedy/parody vultures? Heck no.
Of course, it is low budget and Michael Madsen is broke but that notwithstanding this is terrible. It has not redeeming features. The acting is terrible. The script is weary. The effects are poor. The direction amateurish. The lighting and cinematography lack any kind of subtlety. It really is is first class horse you know what.
So why not give it one? Well at least they tried. Making coherent and professional movies on this budget must be difficult and almost impossible to get In cinemas.
Doesn't stop it being rubbish though.

So this is presented as by the Asylum, but I believe it's actually done by another firm (Acme Holdings, or something, it's not clear to me who actually made the film.)
But no matter, this is something Hollywood should be doing: Making movies fun again.
Cheesy? Mountains of it.
Low budget? Only the lowest.
Amateur acting? Sort of, it's not top notice but you could tell it was a labour of love and Ramses especially was having a great deal of fun with his part. They all did really, Dracula being reserved and mysterious, the Invisible Man drawing heavy inspiration from his counterpart in the Doom Squad. The Wolfman didn't have as much screen time as I would have liked to see, but he did well with what little he had. Indeed the only naff acting was from Dr. Frankenstein, the actor playing him was kind of going through the motions, which is kind of a shame as I am given to understand he has done much better in the past.
No matter, the plot is straightforward and there is little in the way of twists and turns, but all...err...mashed together, and you a fun little film that the big production houses could learn a thing or two from.
Definitely one for the group watch.

I know it's Asylum and was made in 5 days. But I loved the plot and Dracula was great!! I'let let my grand nieces and nephews watch this! I love the use of the Universal Monsters for it! I do think it would have been helped more without Michael Madsen as Frankenstein! I think someone like Michael DeBarre!! Madsen doesn't seem very interested!! He could have had so much fun with this role, given it more life and animation!! I really did like the relationship between Elisabeth's and Boris!! Especially when she would read to him! It added some softness to the rough edges! This film is my new guilty pleasure!!
Asylum,Madsen,Frankenstein,Dracula, the invisible man etc etc etc. You know this ain't gonna be nowhere near a classic. But hey, take it for what it is.
Get some pop corn,a few beers and a brain removal and you'll be fine for a Saturday nights viewing. It's fun, campy, silly, corny and basically a tribute not to the classics but all the sketchy remakes of the classics that were enjoyed by horror fans all over.
People are gonna hate that's for sure but if you take it for what it is you'll find some joy out of it.
It doesn't take itself seriously and has some of the worst cgi about but I honestly think this could become a cult classic. Who knows eh?
I just love the fact that someone is keeping the classics alive even if its done on the cheap.

This is very much like The Mummy ( 2017 ) about an ancient Egyptian princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. Though safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess, whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in the current day bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. The Mummy ( 2017 ) is deemed Tom Cruise best film as well. Go see Monster Mash (2024). Director Jose Prendes is one to watch. His next feature will be Puppet Master: Furnace Leech Woman.

The script and filming are quite standard, which is beyond the original standard of Asylum. I give five stars to the screenwriter (out of five stars), and fifty stars to the vampire Dracula (out of five stars)! He is so handsome!
I personally think that when you watch this movie with no expectations, you will get more feelings, admire the artistic care, the atmosphere, the performance of the actors, and the reasonable settings. Be a kind person, and you can see more beautiful aspects.
Encourage with positivity and love!
I hope more people can see this movie!
I hope to see more good movies produced by Asylum!

Seriously.. if you didn't/don't enjoy this movie, it's because you take life way too seriously. Yeah, the movie is campy as hell. It's not meant to be a big budget, hollywood horror fest. It's a cheesy, campy, low budget, b-movie good time. It's comical. It's fun. It's entertaining. If you are looking for serious... try the news networks. You'll get plenty of horror there.
My one and only complaint is the same complaint that I have for most every single movie made post-2000... BUY A LIGHT BULB! And I don't want to hear that this is supposed to be "back in the day" before they had electric lights. First, movies set in this era have been made for decades and they were lit perfectly fine, thank you very much! Secondly, there are literally electric lights in Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory. Most of the movie is so dark, you might as well close your eyes and you'd still get the same effect.
Other than that, if you are just looking for a good movie night flick, you could do much worse!

This movie was exactly what I needed to see a great Dracula character he did a superb job playing this role. The Dracula's daughter also carried her role really well. The surprise was the imcisinle man character was hilarious he had so much character coming out from beneath his goggles and bandages, I was laughing a lot over how quirky and cocky this character was. Franstien the doctor could have been better although I liked the actor playing franstien, he just did not seem too scientific to me and played more of a thug and a bully. Frankenstein ether monster did a great job and carried hi role. The wolf man was ok I think he could have been more wolfish but instead played an outcast type. The mummy also u der wraps carried his role and you could see character coming our g through bandages. The story started out pretty good campy but a fun little ride. I loved the witch she did great role as well. Bravo to all the actors. This was like a live comic book story. I truely enjoyed this and sequels will be welcome. Maybe try addy Dr jeckle or a famous ghost. Love the vibes.
