The abduction was quite innovative in the way it was planned so there was some initial intrigue. That said, this series failed to deliver on several fronts, the motive for the kidnapping was silly, and so was the whole line of the story associated with it. The ending fell flat. The car crash scene was verging on the ridiculous, the way the stationary car was overturned and destroyed and yet the other car travelling at speed didn't so much as get scratched, farcical. But the worst thing about the series for me was the acting of Ambika Mod, painfully wooden and bland. The character she was playing was also childish and annoying, not sure if that was intentional or not. Unbearable to watch either way.

The main plot of the show is really good, and the production is paced well. It has that problem that most 'streaming binge' drama has in that it is constantly explaining the obvious, treating the audience as if they are either a) on their phone or b) really stupid. So the script feels a little on the wonky side from the get go.
The major drawback, and this stops it getting a higher score for me is just how howlingly bad some of the acting. Everything line comes at you with a sigh, every line has a sharp intake of breath and a really laboured way of delivering 'plot' which makes it feel less classy than a show of this budget should.
It's okay and passes a few hours of telly wallpaper but with a plotline that's as potentially good as this it could have been much much better.

A well acted and we'll written thriller with a strong cast and good performances throughout. It play's on the fears of parents everywhere. The tension builds from the start and whilst it stretches credulity a little in places with maybe one too many plot twists the overall premise is sound. It would probably have benefited from being longer which is a rarity in these days of streaming and looking back at it in hindsight there are a few minor plot holes but nothing significant enough to spoil my enjoyment. Somewhat reminiscent of Harlan Coban but where as his work does have a habit of getting a bit preposterous this tended to stay just the right side of the line. Looking forward to the next Alex Dahl adaptation.

This mini-series is well-paced at 5 episodes, with a decent, well-written storyline.
Multiple twists and developments keep it engaging, with interesting emotional shifts as the series progresses.
The production seems to have been appropriately budgeted for with decent cast, brilliant scenary and good diversity of locations throughout.
Mod plays the role of the tenacious journalist really well, while I found some of Grainger's more dramatic scenes less than convincing. Gough's performance was brilliant throughout and she was able to showcase a good degree of range in this title.
I think this will age pretty well, and is definitely worth a watch in my view.

Very well directed. The storyline is very interesting from both a criminal and a psychological perspective. The story unfolds gradually with unexpected twists and turns. The role of the journalist is pivotal, contributing significantly to the narrative. It portrays a rare yet challenging situation with a sense of realism, highlighting the complexities and nuances involved. The script adds depth to the characters, as well as to the changes in their relationships brought about by the pressure they experience. The actors deliver good performances, bringing depth and authenticity to their characters. Additionally, the plot is not only intriguing but also layered, keeping you engaged.

The first episode had me hooked. Although not typically a fan of disjointed storytelling, I liked the way the show unfolded, which makes the final episode and the conclusion of the story that much more irritating. After the final episode, I kept checking back for another episode not believing that was the actual ending of the story.
The acting was good, particularly the leads. I found the detectives role in the story pretty terrible, I also didn't think the reporter editor interactions with him.
Overall, I liked the story, and the twists that unraveled through the disjointed storytelling. However, I just can't support the ending.

I really enjoyed this show!! Happily giving it a 9/10. Great storyline, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. I was wondering why Xavier Samuel isn't listed as being in it on IMDB?! It isn't on his profile either? I love everything he does! Yes he had a small role, but primarily an important role in this. He was Elisa's lover! An Australian actor known for Elvis, Blonde, Adore, Frankenstein, Spin Out and more. Maybe by the time this review is posted it'll appear! Recognising the other actors too, Holliday Grainger was amazing as Rebecca. Nice to see Ambika Mod getting out there since One Day also.

Not the worst series I've seen but very predictable. Not a strong cast either. Denise Gough holds this whole series together unfortunately. Could have been a great series with stronger actors. The few plot twists were actually not bad and where I say predictable a couple of turns I didn't see coming but nothing earth shattering. If you've got nothing better to watch it's ok to have on in the background. Not a lot to worry about if you miss a few minutes here and there. You could nearly just watch the first episode and the last and not bother with the rest. Not horrendous but not going to win any awards either.

The resolution of the story is an absolute let-down and utter disappointment. Millennial do-goodism afflicts the choices of how the characters behave and of how the climax unravels. I felt cheated. But that's usually the case with contemporary defanged narratives. Pity, the acting is top notch, and much deserving of a better and much ballsier and darker script writing. The first couple of episodes are great, unfortunately it quickly becomes a morality tale of atonement that is a tad too predictable for my liking. The revelations do not land with a gut punch but with a fizzle. Once I realised where it was heading I kept hoping it would re-adjust course. It never did.

It was a good series. Entertaining, but I firgured out pretty quickly what must have happened. I was waiting for another twist, but it never came. I did watch it in one go, so it kept me interested!
Great perfomance by the women in gthis cast, especially the woman who plays Elisa and the woman who plays Josephine's mother. The man who played Fred also did a great job.
Not everything seems to be realistic in my opinion, but it also wasn't extremely farfetched. I would watch if there will be another season made.
I was left with a few questions about the 'why?' of some things, so maybe those questions could be answered in a second season.

This series (of which only the first episode is available on Hulu as of this writing) gets off to a good semi-mysterious start {AND HERE WE HAVE THE FIRST SET OF COMMERCIAL INTERRUPTIONS BY HULU}, including an almost too-perfect meetup {YES! TIME FOR ANOTHER 2 MINUTES OF COMMERCIALS} between two young mothers {BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! SO MANY COMMERCIALS!} and their daughters {DIDN'T WE JUST HAVE A COMMERCIAL BREAK? WE FORGOT! HERE ARE MORE ADS JUST IN CASE!}, all of whom hit it off immediately {DID WE MENTION THAT YOU WILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GO TO THE BATHROOM?}, while we of course wait {WHILE MORE COMMERCIALS RUN, RIGHT?} to see where things are going to go {PROBABLY TO COMMERCIAL, IF WE HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT} sideways.
Episode One keeps the necessary exposition to a minimum {THEY NEED TO BE CONCISE BECAUSE WE NEED TO INTERRUPT FOR MORE COMMERCIALS} with only one or two moments of foreboding {PROBABLY WONDERING WHEN THE NEXT COMMERCIAL WILL APPEAR}, but how well they can maintain this competent buildup of suspense remains to be seen {OR MAYBE NOT. HEY, WHERE'D EVERYBODY GO?}.

This miniserie was a bingewatcher. The day after i wanted to see the next episode. It was full off cliffhangers. Each episode there is a new plot twist. Something you did't expect. Or something you thought was different.
I liked this serie very much. Some of the actors act a bit strange in the beginning. I get used to it when the serie was getting at the end. It was on disney plus i watched this. It looked mysterious and was kind of a detective serie. Those are the things i like about series. Originaly there was a book made from this serie. The book was first, then came the serie. Maybe for people who like to read?

Started with a bang and so much intrigue and potential.
Fizzled out and was disappointing towards the end. Was as if they had planned 8/10 eps and were cut to 5 and 3 were as hoped and the last 2 skirted over what they last 5 should have been.
Wasted opportunity. The early years of her life could have been really expanded on; and the angles they found around the husband were left very ambiguous. Enjoyable show but after started with the feeling like it was going to be very good and you are left underwhelmed.
Cast are a lot better than some reviews indicate and Holliday Grainger was excellent.

Elisa Blix (Denise Gough) is a busy flight stewardess married to Fred Blix (Jim Sturgess). They have two kids. Elisa encounters another school mom Rebecca (Holliday Grainger). Her daughter Maria begs to sleepover with Rebecca and her daughter. It's all a ruse and Maria gets kidnapped.
This starts like a high class Lifetime movie. After an initial burst, this mini-series turns into something else. It's not about the mystery since the telling is revealing everything slowly and methodically. There is no drama there. It becomes all about Elisa's secret. It is more about guilt, justice, and responsibility.

Well I was sold on the cast, regardless of the story. By the end of episode 1, it was clear, that this 5 part series was going to be excellent. In a nutshell, this is a synopsis...Elisa ( the always fantastic Denise Gough) and Fred ( Ditto excellence Jim Sturgess are married with 2 kids, Lucia and George. A new schoolmate (
Josie) with calm and cool mom, Rebecca Strike Back's wonderful, Holliday Grainger) ask Lucia to stay for a sleepover. The next morning when Elisa goes to pick up her daughter, it turns out the the home was an Air B&B, and all traces of Lucia, Rebecca and Josie are gone. The next 4 episodes introduces us to a variety of characters including Ambika Mod ( One Day), and Bronagh Waugh ( everything great). The show does not go off the rails nor is it contrived. This series is based on the novel, " Playdate", by Alex Dahl.

The Stolen Girl delivers a compelling and suspenseful narrative that keeps you hooked until the final episode. The writing is sharp, and most of the cast delivers excellent performances, especially as the story unravels the layers of what first appears to be a perfect couple. It's structured like peeling an onion-each layer revealing deeper dysfunction and secrets. The show could have been tighter, possibly shortened by an episode or two. The biggest flaw lies in the underdeveloped characters of reporter Selma and her editor Kaleb, whose performances fall short compared to the otherwise strong ensemble. Still, it's well worth watching.
Somewhere deep inside is a plot that has some merit but, with the exception of Holiday Grainger, the acting is so bad it's beyond laughable. One can only suspect that Disney+ signed it up unseen.
The performance of the distraught mother (Elisa) and the lead detective (D. I. Sinclair) are disgraceful but award winning by comparison to journalist (Selma) and her editor (Kaleb). Most of the others are bad but could easily blame diabolical direction.
Selma interviews without taking notes and receives photographic evidence via email which arrives within seconds and without having given her address.
Reactions are amateurish and situations contrived however, the worst part of all is that I watched all 5 episodes but in my defence, I had a wager on the ending.

While watching the series, we see not only a kidnapping but also the characters confronting their past. At the same time, the way the characters reflected their emotions and behaviors in response to events was truly very natural and realistic. Especially those who know Denise Gough from the series Andor will understand, she has showcased her talent professionally, as if she were someone who has literally experienced the events firsthand. Besides these, you don't get bored at all while watching the series; it flows in some way. Because the curiosity and mystery are not fully revealed until the very end of the series, keeping you glued to the screen. This series conveys all the emotions it needs to make us feel with everything it has. My only criticism is that if there had been a bit more emphasis on Elisa Blix's past and experiences, it would have been better for the story. Besides this I definitely recommend watching it.

I'm actually a bit lost for words on this one. It is so badly written, the story is ridiculous with characters doing things no real person would do, ever and the acting by the lead is so bad that it's hard to understand how this actress got the job. The whole production feels cheap and lacking any quality. How can this be on Disney? How did it get made? Who hired this writer who doesn't seem to have the most basic grasp of storytelling and cannot write dialogue that even vaguely approximates real life. One of the reviews says it's from the same team as those Harlen Coben dramas on Netflix and that makes sense as they are equally rubbish with unbelievable female characters and storylines, poor production values and terrible actors. 1/10 is generous.
