The Secrets in the Proposal

Angela always blames Booth for every little thing. Brennan runs off kidnapping her own daughter with Max for months and it's OK. Brennan doesn't believe in marriage and cuts Booth down all the time in front of everyone, it's OK. The list goes on and on throughout the series, Angela needs to mind her own business and quit instigating situations.

Another thing, Booth and Brennan do NOT belong together, they are too different, different beliefs, different personalities, different everything. Booth should have kept Hannah, she was much more like Booth. Anyone who thinks opposites attract are fools.

Angela is supposed to know all things about Brennan & Booth, but can't add Pelant to the mix. The smart-mouth comment about don't hang up on me even though I'd hang up on you makes her come across as too smug. She's really not that smart! This is my least favorite episode because of Angela.

The most tired cliché in all of cop-procedural writing is: the bad guy goes after the cop! Or the cop's family! It really didn't need to be done more than once, but now every show keeps dragging it back in as though it were a fresh plot device. It's not. It's very, very stale.

The biggest, rottenest shark that lies athwart the path of any cop-procedural show is: the Omnipotent Omniscient Never-Caught Villain. Have the writers learned nothing from the way "Red John" has killed interest in The Mentalist? The whole point of these shows is that they present us with a puzzle, and solve it neatly by the end of the hour. That's the framework. Once you start getting "supervillains" like Red John or the endlessly-uninteresting Pelant, the show starts circling the drain, because we know as soon as the name is mentioned that this episode will be just another dead end, petering out unsatisfactorily.

Kill off Pelant and get back to what makes the show great!

So after the events at the end of the last season, Booth goes into his childish mode, drinking, not shaving, acting like a lost puppy. Bones, one of the most analytical characters of all time, makes no effort to figure out what is going one. Remember, Pelant just got away again. He is the most dramatic figure in everyone's lives, yet he isn't thought about as a potential cause of distress. The new case is ho hum. A guy had his head bashed in by someone and the murder weapon is not obvious. We do have sort of a cool character, a former priest that took Booth's confessions in the military. He is much wiser than most anyone else and he keeps religious dogma out of the equation.
