Adaptation of Danish crime novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen. Previously adapted as five Danish movies starring Nikolai Lie Kaas and Ulrich Thomsen as Carl Mørck / Carl Morck

With the series being set in Scotland there are some legal inaccuracies throughout the series. For example, both 'arson' and 'burglary' are mentioned however neither is an offence in Scotland. They would be 'wilful fire raising' and 'theft by housebreaking' respectively. Furthermore they refer to a vehicle registration mark (VRM/ registration plate) as a 'tag' which isn't police terminology in Scotland. On top of this, whilst speaking to a hotel member of staff and asking for records from their system the staff member informs the police they require a warrant, this is also inaccurate, they would require a 'data protection' form.

While the year in which the series is set is not made clear, several of the cars seen on screen have 2027 licence plates.

Kate Dickie (Jacobson) and Jamie Sives (Hardy) previously played police officers together in Annika (2021), another police drama series set in Scotland. Dickie's character was also the commanding officer.

Passenger/roll-on-roll-off (RO-RO)/cargo vessel PENTALINA appears throughout the show. Managed by Pentland Ferries in the UK, PENTALINA is still in service (as of June 2025) between Gills Bay and St. Margaret's Hope (Scapa Flow). PENTALINA's IMO number is 9437969, MMSI is 235061705, and call sign is 2AOW6. She is 70 m (230 ft.) long and 20 m (66 ft) wide.
