It's okay.

Starts well enough, creepy and atmospheric. Immediately thrown into the premise which isn't a pretty on in its own right. Pretty horrific situation with choices that are moreso.

Then, well, it's sits idling a bit. Almost feels like a film made out of a short but there was promise. Kept me interested for a bit and just further continues down the hole that feels like filler, only to stumble into a disappointing "flat" finish. Overall, interesting. Chalked this one up as many"missed opportunities" as it was creepy and atmospheric and built enough tension, only to waste so much time spinning it's tires, it loses it's early-on head of steam.

4/10.

Nothing wrong with the acting or production, but the script seems half-finished

Single mother shoos her kid away with grandma so she can deal with the bloodthirsty demon/vampire living in her downstairs storage room. Minor, independently-produced horror outing was something of a family affair: writer-director Spider One is also married to the lead, Krsy Fox, who doubled as the film's editor; both were producers on the film, along with executive producers Cher and her son, Chaz Bono, who has a supporting role. There's nothing at all wrong with the acting--which is quite solid--and the production doesn't feel slapdash; however, Spider One's script doesn't go in for a backstory, leaving itself open to unanswered questions and gaps of logic. This guy just wants to get to the finale, which has a comical twist--though, again, it doesn't make much sense. *1/2 from ****

Another member of the Zombie family trying to be a filmmaker.

This is a movie I first heard about last year from Dead Meat and I've been waiting for the movie to come out. Now that I've watched the movie and found out the director of this movie is Rob Zombie's younger brother, I am now questioning my initial existence for this movie.

Positives for Little Bites (2024): The movie has an interesting premise to begin with and that's good. I also thought the performances from Krsy Fox as Mindy Vogel, Jon Sklaroff as Agyar and Elizabeth Phoenix Caro as Alice Vogel were all decent. And finally, there are some solid gory effects in the movie.

Negatives for Little Bites (2024): Like I said before this review, director Spider One is the younger brother of Rob Zombie and he is about as subtle as his older bro. Now, I am not a big fan of Rob Zombie as a filmmaker, so finding out these details made me worried about this movie. The movie doesn't do anything with its premise. There are a number of conversations in this movie and they are dull. There are random cameos by James A. Janisse (Dead Meat), Heather Langenkamp and Barbra Crampton that go nowhere. And my final negatives is that the ending of this movie was very confusing.

Overall, Little Bites (2024) is a bad vampire movie and while this isn't as atrocious as any of Rob Zombie's movies, this wasn't a good introduction for his young bro.

Review for Little Bites

This is a movie that caught my attention when the trailer was being shown at the Gateway Film Center. There were things with sound designs and got me to look up. The first was seeing that this featured the likes of Heather Langenkamp and Barbara Crampton, who are actors I'm a fan of. I also saw that this was written/directed by Spider One. I've seen his previous film, Allegoria, which was decent. I also know him as the lead singer of Powerman 5000 and the brother to Rob Zombie. This one seemed interesting with the information I knew, so I decided to catch it at the theater.

Synopsis: in a desperate attempt to protect her ten-year-old daughter, a young widow allows a nightmarish monster to slowly eat her alive.

This young widow from the synopsis is Mindy (Krsy Fox). She is in bed and she hears a bell, summoning her. We see that she's exhausted but cannot ignore this. What is calling to her is the monster. Later we learn its name is Agyar (Jon Sklaroff). It looks old and creepy, needing to feed. It prefers her arm. She tries to get it to use a leg, but she doesn't have clout and gives in to its demand.

What we learn from here is that this beast feeds regularly. Mindy is covered in scars as it bites her. To protect her daughter, she sent her to stay with her mother. The daughter is Alice (Elizabeth Phoenix Caro) while the grandmother is played by Bonnie Aarons. We hear her mostly over the phone, scolding her daughter and demanding that she step up to care for her child. This isn't the only person who is hard on her. Sonya Whitfield (Crampton) is a worker with Child Protective Services who is looking into the treatment of Alice. It is required that the child be back the following Tuesday.

Mindy is tired and she is in pain. Her mother accuses her of being hooked on drugs and doesn't believe her when she's told otherwise. Mindy does meet Ellenor (Langenkamp), who inspires her. They might also have more in common than our lead character might realize. Mindy has to decide, allow this creature to continue to feed on her or fight back for the sake of her as well as her daughter.

That is where I'll leave my recap and introduction to the characters. Where I want to start is that there are good things here. I prefer this one to Spider One's other film, the anthology - Allegoria, which I didn't dislike as much as others. I do see growth here as a filmmaker which is a positive. I'd continue to watch his works as there are good things here. This isn't an issue free movie. I did need to say that as well.

Let's start with the positives. The idea that we have this monster living in the house and feeding on a mother is great. I know there is an allegory under this and I'm guessing it is depression. We learn that Mindy's husband and the father of Alice passed away. I get the idea that this is pointing out how difficult it is to be a parent, especially when you're doing it alone. I'm thankful for my wife, Jaime, and how we're able to help each other. I give all the credit in the world to single parents for sure.

Getting back to what I was referring to, while I was watching this, I had the idea that we're watching a monster feed on this mother, but there is more underneath it. Mindy isn't in the position to bargain with Agyar. It seems like Mindy sent Alice away because she didn't want it to feed on her. I love this idea, but I just wish they would have done more with it. Agyar wants Alice to come back as it seems like Mindy is being fed on to protect her. With how it is presented and this is me reading into it trying to figure out or make the connection. I believe if this is developed more, then it could work better. I did like that Mindy learns that she can feed others to the beast, but they need to have something to live for. He loves that despair and wants to live.

Then to build from this, I do think the issues that I have is with the writing. The dialogue at times is awkward and feels like it is a bit too on the nose. It also feels like it is purposefully saying things to get to the point they want to make and doesn't feel as organic. This makes performances come off stiff. I'm less inclined to blame the actors, just knowing that we have people I've seen in other things. I'll say that I did like the despair we see from Fox. She works as this mother who is fighting to keep things together. I love the growth there. Caro is solid for a child. She doesn't show up until late so they were strategic there, limiting the screentime to critique. Sklaroff is great as this monster. The accent adds something to the performance, making this creature seem wise. Chaz Bono, James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca were fine in their supporting roles. They bring life to their quirky characters. Other than that, I love the cameos by Aarons, Langenkamp and Crampton.

I'll then finish this out with filmmaking. I did think the cinematography and framing were good. There are shots here that are crafted in interesting ways. That did add something. The look of Agyar was creepy. Seeing the scars all over Mindy was good as well. That just adds a dimension of seeing everything she's endured thus far. Made me feel for her. This is limited to blood and gore, but what we got there looked good. It was done practically. If there was CGI, the use was limited so I'll credit the team there. Other than that, the soundtrack was solid. It adds creepiness to the atmosphere they're building. Plus, the sound of that bell carries such fear for the lead.

In conclusion, this is a solid lower budget film. It is limited in what they're working with, but that adds to its feel. We are seeing this mother, Mindy, who has isolated herself to deal with a monster in her house. The allegory to depression and how difficult raising a child alone can be is good. I do think there is more that can be built on here that could make this even better. The acting is solid though, my issues seem to be more with the writing. This was made well enough with the practical effects, cinematography, framing and the soundtrack leading the way there. Again, not a great movie but I enjoyed my time here. I'd recommend it if you like creature features and want one that has something to say.

My Rating: 6.5 out of 10.

Not Better than Bobadook

The Plot: Trapped in the living nightmare of motherhood, Mindy, a single mother harboring a horrible secret, has willingly cut herself off from her unsuspecting precious daughter, Alice. After all, the girl must never know what's been going on behind her back. But as Mindy's unimaginable problem gets the best of her, fear and abuse slowly drain her life away. And the thing in the basement is always hungry; no matter what, its feeble human host must keep feeding it, or else.

What a bore. The movie is so slow, you'll fall asleep before it's over and then you don't get the denouement. Not that you'd want it by then.

Just not enough to sink your teeth into

"Little Bites" has a unique premise, which flows from a very literal application of the metaphor of addiction being a monster which eats away at you, little-by-little, till one day there is nothing left. Given the almost non-existent budget, the Spider One (the younger Cummings brother, i.e. Not Rob Zombie) / Kirsty Fox writer / director couple, augmented by the much improved cinematography of Andy Patch, did astonishingly well. The set (basically a very cool gothic house) creature - and bite effects, 70's setting, and claustrophobic camera work, created a tense and oppressive atmosphere, which worked very well. Horror screen queens, Crampton and Langenkamp excelled in minor roles, and Sklaroff did the cool measured patronising voice. Fox really gave the performance her all, and her character at times worked brilliantly. However, the script needed a lot of work. Some interactions were written very unnaturally, and the failure to move past the basic metaphor and to run said metaphor is almost criminal. The duality between the visual events and the mental cause thereof needed decent capitalisation and the continuous spoon-feeding of the metaphor, just made a way too long 104 minute film, feel even longer. A mixed bag film, but because of the originality of the idea and the decent visual execution, despite the micro budget, "Little Bites" gets a 6/10.

Dull and sluggish...

Stumbling upon "Little Bites" by random chance here in 2025 and seeing it was a horror movie that had eluded me, of course I opted to sit down and give the movie a fair chance. I do have a fondness for all things horror, after all. And without knowing what I was getting myself into here, I suppose writer and director Spider One had every opportunity to impress and entertain me with this movie.

The narrative is rather slow paced and dull, which makes sitting through the movie somewhat of an ordeal. It was as if the movie never got off of the runway, falling into a monotonous slump and never really taking the audience on any thrilling ups and downs. The script felt subpar and half-baked, as if it was not properly fleshed out before being brought to the screen.

The movie does have some horror icon actresses on the cast list, with the likes of Barbara Crampton, Heather Langenkamp and Bonnie Aarons. I've seen leading actress Krsy Fox before, though I can't claim that she is one whom have made a splash impact on my radar, but I will say she carried this movie nicely. The acting performances in the movie were good, just a shame that the storyline was such a dumpster fire.

Visually then "Little Bites" was good. The special effects are nicely made, and it definitely does add flavor to the movie, pardon the pun.

If you enjoy horror movies, then I most definitely would recommend you not to waste 105 minutes on watching "Little Bites". The movie is simply too boring and slow paced.

My rating of writer and director Spider One's 2024 movie "Little Bites" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

Better than Bobadook

Smoldering plotline style horror. The setting is period correct from what I recall as a toddler. Where they found an untouched 1979 wood-panel house is a mystery, but it works. Dark by its nature, they can never make one of these houses "bright and cheery"

The film was compared to the Bobadook in the stuff I read before the release, but after having watched both, the plot for this one resonates with me as a parent far more. I put it ahead of Bobadook on the relatability scale. I could actually relate to Mindy.

The generational relationship with her mother also felt 'real' in a way you don't see in film. In only a few scenes, you get a feeling for a rounded character. So real, in fact, I wondered where she was going in the story.

Without spoilers, I could have used more in only 2 places:

1: I wanted to see the more of a certain kill.

2: I would like to have explored the history a bit more. The characters are interesting enough to want to know more backstory.

Chaz Bono gave a really good performance. I was surprised.

Krsy Fox is good, but I've begun to expect that from her.

Barbra Crampton... solid of course.

Jon Sklaroff came off well... really well... as the monster. Something that creepy and base shouldn't be that eloquent. He pulled it off, and now I want to know "What exactly was that?!?"

Overall, good film. It's not the typical slasher. It's not a bloodbath. But by the end, you understand exactly the point the writer/director was making. If you have kids, you're probably going to empathize with him.

It could have been so much better

The premise is intriguing: what would you do if a vampure lived in your basement, slowly sucking the life out of you, and you let it because it wants your daughter? The problem with this movie is that it never actually goes anywhere. There's no suspense, no thrill, no big reveal. The creature's make-up isn't even that good, it's just a dude with a mask and a few hair tufts, sucking blood from the protagonist's arms and legs. Too bad, because the actor has the most suave, creepy voice and demeanor. I may have fallen asleep once or twice because nothing happens, the woman is just not doing anything and it's extremely frustrating. The only horror about this movie is that it will suck 106 minutes of your life that you'll never get back. I enjoy horror movies from all genres, but this one was utterly disapointing. I couldn't even find a metaphor to it.

Little Bites takes too big of a bite and chokes on its pacing

I was rather excited for Little Bites because the premise sounded unique enough, and there were some familiar faces attached to it. It tells the story of a young widow desperately trying to protect her daughter from something evil, to put it vaguely. Krsy Fox, as the mother, does a solid job and largely carries the movie on her back, as her character demands a lot from her.

There are only a limited number of characters, and the acting ranges from pretty good to rather poor at times. From the overall quality of the film, it's clear that the budget was limited and that Spider One and the rest of the team worked with what they had. While I appreciated the use of practical effects, it was obvious that the antagonistic force was just an actor in makeup. The film is very dark and poorly lit, which not only contributes to the cheap-looking effects but also does the movie no favors.

The narrative unfolds at a snail's pace, and the movie feels too long, making for a rather boring viewing experience. It felt like a short film stretched to over 100 minutes, with slow pacing and barely any questions answered. In the end, it was rather unsatisfying, and therefore, I can't recommend watching it. However, if the premise sounds interesting to you, you might want to check it out and form your own opinion.

It's just alright

Without any spoilers, it's an average 2024 "horror" story that relies on jump scares rather than story to deliver. It is not better than the babadook by any stretch. The make up isn't bad, the acting is just ok and the story approaches the edge of being good, but just never crosses over. The idea of the story is better than the execution.

The individual scenes lacked connection. It felt as though each scene was written without any thought put into how they would transition from one to the next. I don't know if this was an editing issue or if it was just poorly written.

If the cast and one of their parents hadn't produced this, it likely wouldn't have gotten off the ground.

A limp-wristed drama that could've been good

Living alone in her house, a single mother trying to keep a flesh-eating monster satisfied learns that her activities have brought unwanted attention to herself with others trying to keep her child from suffering the same fate as her and must race to stop it from accomplishing its goal.

This was a disappointing if somewhat watchable genre effort. One of the better features of this one is the intriguing and somewhat chilling starting point present here that offers up an immensely intriguing setup. The idea of the mother trapped in the house with a vampiric monster looking to take advantage of a specific personality trait that she has developed over the idea of keeping the daughter out of the monster's grasp has turned her into a scarred, broken woman under the guise of everything. This is an incredibly effective setup that goes to great pains to present itself as an impactful allegory on parenthood protecting your children by any means necessary including from threats they may not understand why they're considered damaging threats in the long run, and with a solid bit of gore in the kinds of kills featured throughout here gives this some rather fun moments. That said, this one just runs at such a glacial and flaccid pace that the tempo robs the film of anything that could happen. This one lingers and focuses on specific scenes for far too long to the point of losing the point so there's little need for this one to run for nearly two hours like it does which is the result of the film just being agonizingly slow for the majority of its length. Either running everything through a speed-up filter that gives this one a simple touch of going along at a rate that's far more appealing that doesn't skimp out on anything in terms of the plot which is not where this one stumbles as that keeps the film running along nicely enough with the rest of the film.

Rated R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

creepy but a bit slow

Mindy Vogel (Krsy Fox) is talking with a creepy creature in her dark basement. Child Protective Service comes knocking at her door. She tells the agent that her daughter Alice is visiting her mother.

This small horror has good creepiness. Mindy looks absolutely haunted. The creature is pretty basic but effective. It is lurking in the dark and that is very creepy. The problem is the slower pace. The story needs to have one more thing to happen or one more person to kill. It is great to see Heather Langenkamp, but I don't want her getting killed. The fat guy is great. Maybe she should get the woman who called CPS.

Better than the current rating score

I enjoyed the movie. The first two thirds were really good, I'd give it an 8. The slow building tension, the acting was spot on. I was actually impressed with Krsy Fox's performance. Heather Langenkamp's performance was my favourite, she has a limited role but she makes it so memorable. The pace of the slow boil was good in my opinion. It wasn't so slow that I lost interest and it didn't rush and lose the delicate tension. The last third I almost felt like maybe the original script was changed? It took me out of the movie a bit hence my rating coming down to a 7. It was not bad by any means, I still enjoyed it. I would have preferred an ending that kept in tone with the first 2/3. I actually think that Spider One created a solid movie though. I actually would love to see him explore other genres, I think he could create an interesting body of work.

Only discovered its credits after watching it: great Attempt

This film starts off with moments of silent minimalist storytelling ie: we learn nothing about the Who Why How even what the point is beyond perhaps trying to give us a different spin on vampires. Its so weird to see soap oprea ( Y& R's ageless Barbara Crampson) actors in this. Its does has a basic underlying anxiety of maternal feeling of failure & abandonment, with a single mother who ALSO has a monster problem leading to her dropping her kid at her mothers because....monster is feeding alot. That is not a spoiler. A friend notices her obvious anemia & lack of visible daughter at the market so she calls the CPS IF ONLY MORE PPL DID THAT IN REALITY when they see parents strung out. But never mind. The child is being kept away from the monster who really wants HER, not the mother. Poor Mindy ( mum) has a REALLY unfortunate mother who ISN'T DELIGHTED about having her granddaughter for a visit thats lasted weeks. (Wow I was blessed having to wrench MY kid home from my folks-- I honestly DIDN'T KNOW such grandparents existed) The film is mainly dark shadows when revealing only some of the monster. Hes a bit boring for a horror film baddie. I like his voice even the dialogue is good but it's not very consequential. Minday kills to try to spare her own demise by pints of plasma but MONSTER refuses the depressed losers she able to lure home. She is too good a person to be forced to do this. Its easy to pity her her no matter how far she goes.... The pace is up & down its something that could have been in some horror anthlogy with say a 48 min run time maybe 40 because even at a hour if felt longer. Its all very domestic but its always great to see Chaz Bono! In fact I really thought the casting was great in this.

Grama looked alot like I pictured her!!!

MONSTER can really put the pressure on ; his threats are so terrifying. But its not lost on the viewer that he's stuck in a closet in her basement while he tells her she will get to WATCH him EAT the BIG prize: INNOCENT LITTLE GIRL.

The Ending is a bit of a meh kinda thing. Maybe I am too picky. It a reasonal good attempt! NOW I know this is from Rob Zombie's younger brother I can say he does subtlety as much as Rob doesn't do it. Not that there is no blood...It has its horror film bona fides.....LOL Not mad I watched it.

I look forward to his next film.

Little Bites is a solid entry in the horror genre that's worth a watch.

I recently watched Little Bites (2024) on Shudder. The story follows a woman who allows herself to be eaten by a monster to keep her daughter safe. Meanwhile, child protective services starts asking questions, her health rapidly declines, and the pressure of keeping the monster fed becomes overwhelming. At some point, she won't be able to juggle it all...

This film is written and directed by Spider One (Allegoria) and stars Krsy Fox (Terrifier 3), Barbara Crampton (From Beyond), Jon Sklaroff (Three Kings), and Elizabeth Phoenix Caro (The Christmas Chronicles).

This was a mysterious and unsettling horror film, with Jon Sklaroff delivering a standout performance as both a villain and a monstrous presence. The ghoul's design and voice work are particularly effective, adding a sinister atmosphere to every feeding scene. The bites and gore effects are well done, and the film delivers some strong jump scares. The mother-daughter dynamic is well-executed, making the emotional weight of the story feel real. The mother's slow transformation and descent are handled well, and the film builds toward an ending that is both satisfying and chilling.

In conclusion, Little Bites is a solid entry in the horror genre that's worth a watch. I'd rate it a 6/10.
