फ़ीचर्ड समीक्षाएं
I really want to like this show, but if this first episode is anything to go by I'm going to have to be patient. It had the chance to make the first episode genuinely thrilling and compelling, but opted for mellow and mysterious instead.
A24 don't produce mainstream projects, so it would be foolish to expect Sunny to be as accessible as your typical Netflix show (this show is from Apple TV+), but that doesn't change that the plodding and unhurried pace does let a bit of the steam out of your enthusiasm for the story.
Regardless of her recent trauma, Suzie Sakamoto is put simply, a jerk, which doesn't help. Her performance would be a lot more authentic if she spent some extended time in Japan ahead of filming, since someone who had lived in Japan for over a decade would have a whole different set of mannerisms. Then again, I appreciate most people would not recognise that she behaves exactly like an American who has just arrived in Japan.
I'm sure Sunny will get better; it does have a lot of promise as a dark, futuristic mystery.

I really wanted to like this series. It had an interesting premise for a sci fi fan. However, it was very disappointing.
The main character is an American woman who has lived in Japan for at least 10 years, having married a Japanese man and had a child with him. One would expect she would have learned to assimilate at least somewhat to Japanese culture. Yet, she is presented as the epitome of the "Ugly American." I was just cringing inside as I watched it. In a society that highy values politeness, she is rude and crude beyond belief, even by American standards. While some people have anger during grieving, this character is just beyond the pale. Frankly, I couldn't stand her. Bowing is very important in Japanese and Korean society, yet she does not do it properly and does it a way that is extremely rude. This is after 10 years of living in Japan! She evidently can't be bothered to learn hardly any Japanese, either, after 10 years!!! Nor does she have any friends (after 10 years!?) She tries to blame this on dyslexia, but that is ridiculous. A good show has at least 1 protagonist that the audience likes and can root for. Unfortunately, in this show the protagonist is just hateful and disgusting.
The show was also boring to me. It seemed to drag on and on, with nothing really happening other than more displays of the protagonist's boorishness.
I gave it 2 stars for the premise and because the robot is adorable.
