I've been asking for a new true adventure film since the last National Treasure, but I guess I just wanted it too much, and I got the curse instead of the blessing.
It looks fine, on the surface. Guy Ritchie makes an international hunt for treasure that certainly impresses visually, but in terms of content (and note that Ritchie didn't write this film, when writing is one of his true strengths as a filmmaker) it's as shallow as they come. Some rote puzzles, intermittent fist fights, and an utterly charmless gang of bystanders that follow Krasinski wherever he tells them to go. Stanley Tucci literally just shows up once, for about two minutes total, and you can almost see him just turn around to collect his paycheck at the end of his scene.
Do yourself a favor and go play the new Indiana Jones video game instead. It's so, so much better than this, and was made with true reverence for the art of adventure films.

If you had seen a movie and a half about adventure and old artifacts in the past, or played a similar video game, you know what this movie is about. In about 10 minutes through, you will figure it out..the plot, the bad guy etc. That is not the problem. We watch these movies time and time again for the fun ride, the amount of historical nonsense they can cram through while keeping that entertaining. Sense be damned.
What kept most of these movies fun, are the charm, the cheese, the quirks here and there, fun characters, great locations and action. Those often overlapped sense, character depth and meaning. This movie does not lack on the visuals and actions, it lacks in the former 3. I don't know. It felt too clean and devoid of pleasantries that attract you toward a popcorn adventure flick. It is just..too linear.
Perhaps they wanted to be different, or maybe they did not want to offend someone. I can't believe a Guy Ritchie movie could ever unfunny specially when it's meant to have comedic elements. Ah well, whatever the reason, it was in fact, a mistake. 6/10 for pretty people and locations.

If you thought national treasure was lame back in the day, fear not this is way worse. This makes that movie look like citizen kane. I'm a huge fan of John Krasinski but this is very poor.
It just doesn't flow very well, quite typical for a guy Ritchie movie I find. Just jumps from one exotic location to the next without a huge amount of thought about continuity. Every other movie John Krasinski has been in. He has been a complete departure from the office but honestly in this movie he looks more like Jim than anything else he's been in mannerisms aren't acting skills wise. Been waiting awhile for this to come out so yeah, I'm disappointed.

How is this the same writer who wrote Zodiac??? The writing in Fountain of Youth was brutally cliche and soulless and derivative. So I'm praying Apple didn't do something idiotic like get some AI input or something, because that's what it felt like - painfully so at times.
The actors did the best they could with the script, and I LOVE that this is a non-franchise, non-reboot, original story. So a huge bravo for that, but the writing was just a constant distraction.
Guy Richie is Guy Richie, and I can see why he's a safe choice for film execs, but damn- this film is a good example of needing to raise the bar. Krasinski and Portman give it their all, but I felt bad for them having to deal with these characters and the painfully awkward dialogue.

No, it's not National treasure 3, in fact it doesn't come that near to being as good as the first 2 National Treasure movies.
However I've seen much worse and it was still quiet enjoyable.
For me not enough of the puzzles and riddles from other films of this ilk and a lot left unexplained.
The film does have Guy Ritchie's style and flair all over it and the efforts of all actors are definitely not in question here. I think maybe this film needed a couple more rewrites before going ahead.
On the whole though, if you have 2 hours to spare and nothing to do.....give it a go.
Alternatively wait and hope for "National Treasure 3"

I knew for the trailer that this film was going to be a bit generic but I suppose I was hoping it wouldn't be that generic. As someone who grew up on Indiana Jones, loves Uncharted and has a soft spot for National Treasure this felt very familiar but not in a knowing way because there's nothing this movie does with the established formula that feels remotely unique. Guy Ritchie doesn't bring any of his signature energy to this movie and it's starting to feel like his tendency to put out as many films as possible over the last few years is starting to come back to bite him. Fountain of Youth just feels flat in every way and it ends up feeling like something made for streaming. John Krasinski's a badass and Natalie Portman is charming but it kind of just feels like the script is trying too hard to make them overly likeable and it actually felt a bit annoying after a while. The film starts out a quick pace but starts to drag on in the second half and the climax in particular was a bit of a slog to get through. There's a lot of talented people involved in this movie but I'm not really sure what drew them to it in the first place. It just oozes mediocrity and as someone who's a big Guy Ritchie fan I'd like to see him get a bit more selective with his projects.

Wants to be National Treasure meets mission impossible but its neither. Far fetched and lazy writing. The main characters are treasure hunters with all the money needed to anything that comes along. They are wanted by police in multiple countries but fly about on planes and travel to major tourist locations with ease and are happy to use their names while committing international crimes without a care in the world. In fact they are so care free that Natalie Portmans bring her child along for the Journey. If a character needs a chocolate banana and foam finger to solve a puzzle don't worry they will have packed one cause somehow they would have known to pack some.
The action is watchable. The locations are fantastic, but the acting and story is meh. If your bored and have a few hours to spare then stick it on. I'm just glad I didn't pay the mortgage repayment level costs of a cinema trip to see this damp squib.

The premise was ok. I think both Portman and Krasinski are good actors and I like some of their work. That said, they had almost no chemistry. There didn't seem to be a sibling relationship at all. The movie felt like a poorly executed Drake Video game or Indiana Jones movie.
It has terrible pacing, odd dialogue, and couldn't figure out if it was serious or not. Several of the effects were awful. I settled on a 3.
Keep in mind a 10 is perfection, 5 is right in the middle. Is this right in the middle of all the movies I've ever seen. Nope, not even close. It isn't the worst, but damn it's a hard watch.

I don't understand the bad reviews. Were there plot holes yes but we were thoroughly entertained by this movie. Considering the garbage that's streaming it was way above all the downers that are out there now. The action was good, the storyline was interesting, the locations very cool and the acting was good. It was campy but what's more fun than a popcorn eating, big screen, Saturday night exciting movie. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the twists and turns. John Krasinski played the perfect slightly nerdy puzzle seeking adventurer. People need to lighten up sit back and just enjoy a fun action movie.

Very Indiana Jones/National Treasure. Great settings, lots of dangerous situations and some terrific lead actors! I was happy with it and it was 2 hours that I didn't mind spending in front of my TV and I don't spend that much time watching TV.
I liked the fact that John Krasinki and Natalie Portman play brother and sister instead of romantic interests. The bickering between them was great. I must say that I really hate the fact that reviews on this site need to be at least six hundred characters though. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but just like to say how I feel about a movie or tv show.

Unfortunately another one without anything to offer. Fountain of Youth is just a mess of tired clichés, copying everything we've seen a hundred times before without even trying to do something new. It feels like they just grabbed bits from other movies and stuck them together, hoping no one would notice.
They even recycled old, bad jokes-and somehow made them worse by dragging them out forever. The whole thing moves at a snail's pace, and the characters are so boring it's hard to care about anything that's happening. It's like watching a movie made by people who've seen movies but never really understood what makes them good.

C'mon Guy Ritchie, Natalie Portman, and John Krasinski. I'm a huge fan of all three but this movie was painful. None of the characters were interesting, the "Dad" back story didn't build any intrigue, the fighting between the siblings was obnoxious, the dream sequences were cheesy, I could have made better special effects with my home computer a YouTube tutorial, and the ending was awful. The whole movie I kept thinking about how excited the actors must have been to sign on to work with Guy Ritchie, but then so disappointed to see the finished product. I expected way more than this embarassing dribble.

Having received mixed reviews from critics, I on the contrary haven't enjoyed a treasure hunt movie this much since 'National Treasure' back in 2004. With the amazingly sexy and charming John Krasinski, the very talented Natalie Portman, and the visual style of Guy Ritchie, I was entertained from beginning to end. (I also admire Guy Ritchie for opting to shoot on location, instead of using green screens. Good on you, Mr Ritchie!!)
The Purdue family are treasure hunters. While Luke (John Krasinski) is still living life to the fullest, his sister Charlotte (Natalie Portman) works as a curator - well, until Luke shows up and drags her into another treasure hunt.
This time they are seeking the Fountain of Youth. Billionaire Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson) is terminally ill with liver cancer and funds the treasure hunt adventure, hoping the fountain will cure him. The location to the Fountain is hidden in six rare and valuable paintings, and the group of adventurers go to extreme lengths to find the clues. And once the clues are found, they need to decipher them. I enjoyed the reference to the Wicked Bible, which by the way really exists. The film reminded me of 'The Da Vinci Code' in a way.
Due to the lighthearted nature of the film, we seldom take anything seriously and I never really felt our heroes were in danger, but this is such an entertaining film, I was in seventh heaven from the opening scene to the climax. I guess this was exactly what I was in the mood for at the time. It's also been a while since I've seen a treasure hunt movie I really enjoyed. (No, not 'Jungle Cruise' or 'Paddington in Peru' ticked all the boxes I was looking for in a treasure hunt movie, and most definitely not the latest 'Indiana Jones' movies.)
Krasinski has a way of drawing my attention to the screen like a magnet, and I thought he was just as comfortable cracking jokes as he was during the action sequences. I really enjoyed him as Luke. With the film being as super-fascinating and entertaining as it was, all I can say is "Sequel, please!!" 'Fountain of Youth' is a fantasy action adventure comedy of epic proportions.

Guy Ritchie has lost it.
Going from Lockstock, Snatch and the two Sherlock movies to this is a huge fall from grace.
The story is really bad and his directing is nowhere near his glory days. In addition, the dialogue is horrible and I'm wondering if he makes the actors look so bad or if they simply are this bad? Natalie Portman has been a favourite of mine since Leon, Closer, Vendetta and Black Swan but the few things I've seen her in lately is horrible acting and this might be the worst so far.
I'm really disappointed, it's like looking at a poor mans version of the worst Indiana Jones movie combined with Davinci Code (if it would be written by a teenager).
Just lazy, unentertaining and ridiculous.
I passed out while watching it but finished it the morning after just to be able to rate and review this with a clear conscience.

What do you get when you take favored elements from Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail, The Mummy, and National Treasure...then gather top tier actors with a known and respected director of tense actioners/thievery dramas? Sounds like a pitch for a surefire hit, and fun movie..or an incredibly derivative and predictable jumbled mess.
It's the latter choice here. The first half of the movie, not too bad...second half, was just plain awful.
What has happened to originality in bigger-budget films nowadays?
OK dialogue (at times) will never cover for nor explain absurdist plots or screenplays even when the very best talent both in front and behind the camera show up simply to collect a paycheck.
Some films require a second viewing...this is not one of them.

To be honest, I think Guy Ritchie phoned this one in. Had the pieces to make a great movie but maybe he was forced into this one.
It was entertaining and I would watch a sequel, but there were a number of issues with this one which included cheap and cheesy dialogue, some poor fight sequences and improbable gun fight physics. Added together it feels like you have been a bit let down. Like you were promised Indiana Jones or National Treasure and instead received a shadow or cheap copy of them.
As I said, it is enjoyable, just could have been so much more had Guy Ritchie been bothered to add his usual skill and attention.

This movie tries really hard to reinvent the ganre that has been invented so many times before, and ends up turning it into a trashy mash-up of previously semi-successful, and some successful, iterations of the same thing. The jokes are so corny and unfunny the deserve a multiple rapsberry award all at once. The characters don't work at all, and everything seemed, well..acted. It took me 4 hours to watch this garbage, it was that painful. Boring beyond words. I honestly do not understand why Guy, and some of the top cast in this flop, would commit to such screenplay and accept this joke of a movie to carry their names. Stay away folks, or you will regret it like I did. I warned you..
People really missed the point. This movie perfectly captures the spirit of an adventure, much like National Treasure and with just a touch of Indiana Jones (super small touch). It's not meant to be deep or groundbreaking it's simply a fun, lighthearted journey with a wholesome message at the end. It's the kind of film that's perfect for watching with your family, where everyone can sit back and enjoy the ride.
In a time when many films feel the need to be overly complex or dark, this one stands out by embracing simplicity. It delivers exactly what it promises, an enjoyable adventure and a feel-good ending. Not every movie needs to challenge you, sometimes, entertainment is enough.
Honestly, I've missed these kinds of movies. There's something special about a story that doesn't try too hard and still manages to charm you. I really hope we get to see more films like this in the future, films that are proud to be fun, accessible, and made for everyone to enjoy.

Fountain of Youth may not be Guy Ritchie's masterpiece, but let's be honest - not every film has to be. What it is though, is entertaining, stylish, and unmistakably Ritchie in its tone and pacing. The negative reviews floating around? Take them with a grain of salt.
The story plays with familiar themes - youth, greed, betrayal - but with that signature snappy dialogue and stylized direction Ritchie fans have come to expect. The performances are solid, with the cast clearly enjoying themselves, and the action sequences are sharp, creative, and well-paced. There's a light-hearted energy here that makes it hard not to enjoy, even if the plot leans a little predictable in spots.
Is it Snatch or The Gentlemen? No. But it's still a good film that deserves more credit than it's getting. If you're a fan of Guy Ritchie or just looking for something fun and flashy with a bit of bite, give Fountain of Youth a chance.
6.5/10 - Worth the watch!

Predictable, slow, lacking emotions and the characters seem taken from the worst B-class action movies. Shame about the cast... it doesn't take you anywhere and the scenes are too long and unnecessary. They want to sell us a thieving action figure and his sister who get lost in too many things that never lead to anything. It's a mix of Indiana Jones and Da Vinci without the action or mystery of either, and it's just a poor take on a well-worn theme. Nothing happens in the first half, and the second half gets worse. I think it was just a huge attempt to create a franchise of poor, lifeless characters.
