A cringe-worthy and illogical film.

Govardhan is a young man from a middle-class family, who is shouldering the responsibility of supporting his struggling family. A wealthy girl named Indhu falls in love with him and decides to write a thesis about him and his family's struggles without their knowledge or consent. When Govardhan discovers Indhu's actions, he becomes deeply hurt and decides to break up with her. He also chooses to ignore her, leaving Indhu feeling devastated and desperate. Will Indhu be able to clear his misunderstanding and prove her innocence, or will she be unable to reunite with Govardhan ?

Firstly, I must say that this movie was a major disappointment. The trailers and teasers showed a completely different film, and I was expecting something much better. Secondly, I've reached a point where I'm skeptical of movies featuring Vijay Deverakonda as the lead actor. His acting has become monotonous and unengaging, and I find myself ignoring his films more often than not. The only reason I decided to watch this movie was because of Mrunal Thakur's presence. Unfortunately, even her talent wasn't enough to save the film from Vijay's subpar performance. His acting throughout the movie was average at best, and his expressions lacked depth and emotion. All I could see was a low-budget version of Arjun Reddy, with Vijay rehashing the same alpha-male character that he's become known for. Upon researching his filmography, I noticed that 99% of his films feature similar roles, with little to no range or versatility in his acting. My honest opinion is that he needs to be more selective with the scripts he chooses and work on improving his acting skills. I desperately waited to watch Mrunal Thakur, though that also left me disappointed. After appearing in some of the best films, like Sita Ramam and Hi Nanna, this one is a completely bad script selection. I don't know whom to blame, whether Mrunal or the director of this film. Her acting and chemistry with VD was good, but her character has nothing much to showcase. But I must say that she was a saving grace of the film. I desperately waited to watch Mrunal Thakur in this film, but unfortunately, it left me disappointed. After appearing in some of the best films, like Sita Ramam and Hi Nanna, I thought this one would be a great choice. However, the script selection was completely off. I'm unsure who to blame - Mrunal or the director of this film. Despite her acting and chemistry with VD being good, her character lacked depth and didn't have much to showcase. However, I must say that she was a saving grace of the film, making it somewhat bearable. My first impression of Rohini Hattangadi was a remarkable one. Although I hadn't seen her films before, she left me speechless with her performance, despite having a small role. Her impact on me was more profound than Vijay's, and she looked absolutely adorable throughout the film. She gave her best to elevate this mediocre movie, which was a commendable effort. Jagapathi Babu and Vennela Kishore were also excellent in their roles.

The first half of the film seemed promising, but everything changed when a twist was introduced during the interval. The second half took a completely opposite direction, becoming illogical and nonsensical until the climax. The storyline became increasingly senseless and lacked any connection to reality. It's hard to fathom why a middle-class boy would harass a high-class girl simply because she wrote a thesis about him, and it's equally puzzling that a high-class girl would tolerate such behavior and even hire him at her company. Such toxic films have no place in the cinema. It's difficult to believe that the writer wasn't under the influence of something while crafting this storyline. The majority of the film revolves around Govardhan's relentless tormenting of Indhu, simply because she wrote a thesis about him and his family without their permission. The dialogue is equally appalling, with cringe-worthy and toxic lines that are hard to bear. For example, Govardhan beats up a man who had tortured his sister-in-law, yet he brutally mistreats Indhu, his lover, who wrote a thesis about him and his family in a positive light. On a slightly positive note, the climax was somewhat engaging and heartwarming.

The cinematography of the film is impressive, featuring some enchanting visuals of the United States. While the song choreographies are decent, none of them are particularly memorable. The action scenes in the first half are illogical and defy the laws of physics, reminiscent of a 2000s Tamil film. However, the fight scenes in the climax are somewhat intense and engaging.

The soundtrack by Gopi Sundar is another saving grace of the film. While it may not be an extraordinary or chart-topping album like some of Sundar's other works, all the songs are still enjoyable. However, "Madhuramu Kadha" by Shreya Ghoshal and "Nandanandanaa" by Sid Sriram are particularly noteworthy and worth listening to. The background score is equally impressive, with a soothing quality that is hard to ignore. Unfortunately, the score's beauty is somewhat undermined by the fact that it doesn't quite match the tone of the film, which is unfortunately subpar.

In conclusion, 'The Family Star' is an average masala film with a few notable strengths, including its good music and cinematography. Watch this film only when you don't have any other films to watch.

It was so bad, i had to write a review to vent my frustration

One of the most brain dead idiotic movies with the most crazy and psychotic characters as protagonists of 2024.

Gowardhan is a gaslighting egotistical misogynist who emotionally tortures everyone around him.

Indu is even more weird, she lets all this happen with 0 self respect and dignity.

He blames everything on everyone around him, while acting like he's always right and infallible.

The cringe and frankly disgusting ways in which he bahaves and the fact that she just watches on tolerating everything and apparently unconditionally loves him is so baffling, I just cringed throughout the movie.

What a waste of time and energy. There are 0 characters in this movie that are remotely normal.

Crap

This movie is a hot mess wrapped in a pretty package. It's like they threw a bunch of stuff at the wall, hoping something would stick, but ended up with a jumble of silly, bad and stale bits that don't quite gel together.

The screenplay is a roller coaster, but not the fun kind. You may get a few moments of laughter, but then you're plunged into scenes so ridiculous or dull you'll wonder if the script was written during a group brainstorm where no ideas were turned down, no matter how nonsensical.

The whole vibe of the film feels like it's stuck in a time warp, clinging to an old-school approach that's more yawn-inducing than nostalgic. And, boy, could they have shaved off some runtime. It drags like a lecture that could've been an email.

Vijay's shines in bits and pieces, but even his charm can't fully distract from the chaos.

Mrunal is not really matching up with Vijay, and her performance feels as if she's stuck on repeat, recycling the same handful of expressions we've seen in her last few outings. The rest of the cast? They're just there, doing their thing, not making things worse but not adding much either.

On the technical front, they've splurged. Cinematography, sets, costumes - all top-notch, making you wish the story and direction had received half that attention. Background score gives you headache and the songs make for a good time to check your phone or go for a snack.

Honestly, unless you've been hyped up by all the marketing or feel the unbearable peer pressure from your mates who can't resist jumping on every movie bandwagon, give this one a miss. It's not worth the sit-through, unless you enjoy critiquing every aspect or need background noise while doing something actually interesting.

Okay Okayish Movie. One time watch!

Honestly the story was pretty simple. They could have come with some unique stories. Taking Vijay deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur as their leads meant the story must have to be really good. The story could have better scenes and could have made more sense if they would have been written with more dedication towards the audience. They would have come up with a better plot but still it was pretty cute story to watch. Really loved Vijay's Character in it.

Some great Telugu movies inspired me were " Hey Sinamika" and "Hi Nanna". Loved these stories as they had some unique catch in them to attract the audience. That's what I felt.

very bad, wish 0 stars was an option

This is the worst movie ever. The plot has many many many holes in it. There is no basis for the relationship between the hero if you want to call him that, and the stalking lady who has no justification for stalking. This movie sucks. The storyline was bad, but the acting, character arc, fight scenes and background score were worse. It would be an insult to call this a film, this is a medium of inflicting pain to its viewers. I still have the climax left to watch and yet I had to take out time to write this review to save others. So please understand and delete this movie from the internet. Prime has wasted good money on getting this movie.

Greatness of a Man narrated by a Woman

Usually the hard work of a Man is usually underrated under the cover of responsibility and highest position in the family he is given as a tag line.

He thinks about his family even when he is asleep. He thinks 100 times before spending a penny. He will hardly spend anything for himself. He protects his family and stands by them and strives for their uplifting.

Nuclear family has become a trend in these days. But adjusting in a joint family has portrayed nicely in this film.

A must watch film for all age groups. It will entertain you a lot. Vijay Devarakonda and Mrunal Takur chemistry is good.

Throughout the film, the hero character is so connected with today's family culture.

A Fun, Heartfelt Ride

I recently watched "Family Star" and found myself thoroughly entertained. Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur have fantastic chemistry, and their performances carry the film beautifully. The music adds another layer of charm, with catchy tunes that set the mood perfectly.

The film has its strengths in the comedic scenes, where Vijay Deverakonda shines. His dialogue delivery is spot-on and genuinely made me laugh out loud. While the story may have some familiar elements, the performances and the heartwarming moments keep it engaging.

Of course, there's always room for improvement. Some dramatic portions could have had a little more emotional depth. But overall, if you're looking for a feel-good film with a talented cast and some genuinely funny moments, "Family Star" is a solid choice. It's the kind of movie that leaves you with a smile on your face.

The worst film

I usually don't write reviews but after watching the movie I have decided to write one to save others time.

After watching the movie I felt like this is One of the worst movies ever. Not sure how Parasuram and Vijay came up with this lame story.

After watching Parasuram's last movie and this movie, I really wonder what happened to director Parasuram. He really lost focus and started making flop movies.

I don't know how Vijay agreed to do this movie after a disaster like Liger. Did he became over confident and started feeling like people will see anything he act?

Earlier people used to believe that movies produced by Dil Raju are minimum guarantee ones but now a days he lost touch making lot of flop movies.

Please do not waste your precious time by watching this. Go watch something else.

Family entertainment

It's a decent movie with fun filled dialogues and scenes, and Good commercial movie where families and friends can go and Enjoy!

Doesn't have a strong story line, so don't expect too much from a movie which is made for entertainment purpose, Go watch and Enjoy it.

I went to this movie with my friends and laughed out loud and came back with laughter, people with bad day, People with stressful day needs these kind of movies to relieve the stress for the moment!

At last it has some emotional scenes which might not be well connected but it will not be a big drawback for the film, If you are going to theatres out of love on Vijay and Mrunal! Because sometimes all we need is watching out favourite actors on big screen, that can make us happy,

Go with Zero Expectation, Movie will definitely entertain you...Hope no one miss this for this weekend!

An average family movie

After string of flops for Vijay Deverakonda, this was his try to redeem his stardom but sadly box office numbers decided to go against him. A family movie where the young architect struggles to make his ends meet to support his family only to change all of that when a girl enters in his life. How she writes a thesis on him which puts him in a spot, and he gets into revenge mode and what ensues between them is the rest of the story.

First half establishes the character and the premise, but it goes on for longer than required. Once, the main tussle between the leads start, it sets the narrative going fast paced and interesting. But the logic at many points takes the backseat and all the development is merely carried on with high number of cinematic liberalities.

Vijay has performed really well, and he is apt for the role. Also, Mrunal has done a fairly good job. The characters are not complexed and hence it does not require them to do anything extraordinary either. Their chemistry should have been the highlight, but the screenplay does not give them any chance to build so, and it is a missed opportunity. The music is average and none of the songs are something you will remember after the credit roll.

The other actors with their minimum screentime are good too. The movie is a good timepass for sure and apt for OTT viewing with family around. It does not bore you for sure but with 10 minutes shorter in the first half, it could have made the movie bit better. Give it a shot on a lazy afternoon. #pranureviews #thefamilystar #thefamilystarreview.

1st half watchable,2nd half don't watch

1st half was damn good 2nd half there was nothing to watch Crorepati father agreed for her daughter's marriage to a common man.

Climax was not matched with the main story,it felt like pushing forcefully with main storyline.

Exaggerated very high about common family man. Not this much some one can fall in love especially a rich girl.

Direction did not match with expectations.

Acting from Mrunal quite ok but from Vijay it's very low, felt like Arjun Kapoor of Tollywood. No expression.

Music is fine only 2 songs upto the mark.

Fight scenes not required but as it is Tollywood film. Director putting it unnecessarily.

Overall watch songs on YouTube and see the first half and need not to watch 2nd half.

Ultra boring

Completely boring and unrealistic plot - apparently the female lead captures the family life of a not so financially well-to-do family without letting on them that she is a magazine reporter, and publishes his story, which annoys him and then he goes on to prove himself that can get rich. What audience does exist in the world to read such a boring magazine publishing random unsolicited stories, and even if such a magazine were to exist, would it not mask the real names, which would leave no reason for the male main character of this movie to be so annoyed by her act? Does the movie makers expect the audience to be so stupid that we can't see the story doesn't hold water, not to mention the extremely drudgingly slow pace?

Analgesic - A movie that removes pain in the heart

FAMILY STAR

Not infrequently social media and movie-ratings services converge and under-rate good movies. Family Star is one such movie which is a clear 8+. There is no single plausible reason why anyone can rate this movie as low as 5, unless critics' score has a far higher weightage than us users, and those critics chose to pull down the ratings with their unbridled rancour and vitriol.

I wonder at times if the competition within industry is more evil than fair. While everything is fair in love, the movie-theatre is not a war zone. If any, we need to show empathy to the distributors and producers who have lost half the battle on the first day, as a section of the population awaits the OTT release.

I watched this movie with trepidation since the director Parasuram's last outing SVP was a thematic disaster, where he could not cogently convey a particular good theme. In Family Star, he has presented a "narrow theme" and spun the story more convincingly than SVP. He flipped "Antuleni Katha" (1976) on the gender and climax; and delivered a demure well-knitted outfit.

Yet again Vijay Devarakonda, delivers a scintillating performance. You cannot take your eyes off him, though his hair-do and moustache look out of place (shows Parasuram does not seek or listen to feedback). This well could have been a hat-trick hit in Telugu for Mrunal Thakur (but the cash registers sadly are not ringing loud enough). She continues to amaze with her versatility - Princess Noor Jehan, Yashna and Indu, respectively. In each of these roles in her last three movies, she plays two personas, and switches from one to the other with finesse; two actors in one.

I rate this movie 8 out of 10 for all the above reasons. Add half-point because the theme and Parasuram's message have tons of sociological importance. Add half more because Gopi Sunder is that musical genius who can bring emotions to life. Don't miss the last song "Kalyani Vacha Vacha" - it is your Friday night dance floor number. Other songs and the background tune will continue ringing in your ears through the day.

Please watch "FAMILY STAR" in your nearest theatre. I certainly will, at least twice.

Just Why?

My words might sound harsh but for how many years will we justify this type of nonsense movie making in the name of masala entertainment. We make fun and memes about Indian TV soaps but is this any better? I started watching the movie with open mind knowing very well that this genre of movie will be over the top flamboyant stuff happening. It started alright typical rom com , cringey but fine, then I guess the writers didn't write it, they improvised whatever plots on set. I clicked on the giant amazon front page banner ad because I have seen good movies of Deverakonda and now I am genuinely disappointed, especially after watching a beautiful movie like Laapata Ladies last night.

PS : Chota bheem is also a super reponsible charachter with high morale and protects his family and friends and his village and is still humble, that show has better story lines than this.

Forgettable

Saw the trailers a while back and looked promising !

But the movie was largely a "Meh" affair - the storytelling is messy, director / editor and confused and create a mismatch of romantic - comedy - family drama - corporate politics that the movie ends up not justifying in the basics below : -
  • Character development : characters are not fleshed out and looks largely 2D - even the leads! Director / Editor could have cut a few comedy / song sequences and invested to explain the character better (especially the leads since the twist / reveal all seem unnatural instead of organic )
  • Screenplay was style over substance and cliche over class / art
  • Performances were over the top - this could be a combination of bad character development as well : but I find the acting not impactful

Watch in OTT if you are bored - fast forward would be your best friend!

Wholesome entertainer - with some fantastic moments and slow parts too

I found the movie to be extremely relatable and engaging in the first part of establishing the protagonist and his dynamic with the family. Painted a pretty accurate description of a man who puts his head down to provide for his family - we don't really rate them as stars but they actually are the people around whom families revolve around. Vijay fit the part to the T and he did elevate some of the fun moments in the first half.

Mrunal as usual was perfect and did justice to the role at hand. Needless to say, she was one of the major factors for my family to go to the theatre - I guess that's the trust she has with audiences.

The movie was a bit predictable in the second half. The makers could have done away with some twists.

Overall, it's a nice fun movie to watch with clean comedy and idolizes and represents people in this day and age aren't considered cool enough.

Movie is good but there is no emotion carried in it.

Teaser and promotions are awesome and hence audience have some expectations set on the movie. Hero Vijay Devarakonda and heroine Mrunal thakur can do and give their best for their roles.

After watching the movie, we felt something empty. There is no emotion carried in the movie. The one who slaps woman don't have eligibility to be defined in book.

This is been neither as a story nor as a concept. The screenplay is boring for so long, only few scenes are watchable.

Music is not par with Vijay Devarakonda films, Not even background score is close to treat.

I felt it's better to stop doing such films and to do OTT series if you are afraid of doing out of the box scripts in movies and worried about collections.

We expect Vijay Devarakonda to concentrate on script and look forward for better direction.

A failed try to Glorifying Middle class men

Yes, A failed try to Glorifying Middle class Men, Middle class people are 90% of indian Population. Their is a family star in every family but this try to glorify middle class men or family star didnt justify. The hero's elder brother sequence didnt quite make sense and middle class people dont get happy with money is a ideology but the theory represents all the sequence that proves otherwise in most scene. Not a joy ride but series of various scene put togather to prove what director wanted. Better luck next time guys. Please dont make people call this typical telugu film, Next time add some quality and sence.

Lots of cringe .. less of reason

God, why do people still make movies like this and why on earth does someone like Vijay Devarakonda or Mrinalini opt for boring cringe like this, I mean who are they trying to cater with this storyline.. simply no one.. Its really a pity that they wasted the talent of such star power and talent.. expected a good watch.. but turned out to be really moronic. Please avoid, just. Not worth it.

None of the aspects of the story is believable - the setting, the leads personality, his costume, the romance..every single lacks the charm and originality. This movie should be a anti-pattern for what you can get wrong.. really bad.. even the music is ordinary.
