Director Noboru Iguchi said he got the idea for the film after Piranha 3D (2010) was a hit in Japan. He'd always wanted to make a film about people being attacked by animals, and was searching for the right theme, something high-impact. Since he also love Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes (1978), he decided he wanted to make a film about food that attacked human beings, and which was also set in Japan. Ultimately, he came upon the idea of a group of people who are attacked by sushi.

The opening fight scene with the naked man spinning on the ground took a day and a half to film, which was the longest spent on a scene during the ten day production schedule. Director Noboru Iguchi said that the actor was pretty embarrassed because he had to stay naked in front of several actresses almost that entire time.

Director Noboru Iguchi said in an interview that, unlike his previous graphic films, he made this for "family viewing," though it does include bloody violence and naked women.

The director told Dread Central that he wrote the the screenplay in 3 weeks, spent two months preparing, and filmed the movie in 10 days.

Had its world premiere at the Fantasia Festival on July 22, 2012.
