The series starts well but loses its pace soon after in the name of investigation. The audience keeps wondering when the actual investigation would take place, as it focuses on everything from personal demons to surrounding pressures except the core investigation. It takes until Episode 5 (out of 6 episodes) for the series to truly get going, and the last two episodes are undoubtedly the best of this series.
Robert De Niro excels, and I think there's no doubt about his acting prowess. However, I feel a powerful actor like Angela Bassett was underutilized, and somehow her performance isn't up to the mark, possibly due to a sub-par script and weak dialogues.
Overall, it's a slow, uneventful series that has a very interesting and engaging plot on paper, but the makers fail to capitalize on it. It only truly excels because of the powerful acting and the strength of its final two episodes.

Zero Day is as good as you would expect it to be with a cast this good. Everything about this series is good from the writing to the cinematography but it's the acting that really sets it apart. It's loaded with talent like Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Connie Britton, Lizzy Caplan, Dan Stevens, Joan Allen, Angela Bassett, Clark Gregg, etc. Everyone I just named is good enough to be a lead for a good show but for them all to come together for this makes this worth watching. This miniseries is only 6 episodes so it's an easy binge and you're going to want to binge it so make sure you give yourself enough time before you start it because you won't want to stop. It has plenty of mystery and twists to keep everyone entertained. I'll be shocked if this doesn't get nominated for some awards, especially De Niro. He was fantastic in this. I definitely recommend watching this.

If you're into political thrillers then Zero Day is the show for you. This limited series is headed by an all-star cast led by the legendary Robert De Niro. De Niro gives one of his better performances of his career, the man is just incapable of giving a bad performance and this is no different. He's absolutely brilliant yet again. De Niro is as big as star as there is so for him to do a tv series you know that show would have to be special. While Zero Day isn't the best show that you'll see this year, it's still a very good show that's worth every second watching it. It's going to have most of you on the edge of your seat throughout the series, especially the last couple episodes. Some of it gets a little ridiculous but it's not based off a true story, just turn your brain off and enjoy it for the political thriller it is.

De Niro and Plemmons? Oh come on, where do I sign? The show was good. Not only on the whodunit premise, but on the complexity of politics, relationships, aspirations, trauma, guilt, resolution. We can never win it all, we can never have it all, and De Niro as the lead show cases that. Most we can accomplish when we enter the dance is that we leave it with our head held high by picking the road less travelled. And that's awfully hard and rare.
Plemmons was great too. I do feel he is becoming better with age.
Good cinematography, I enjoyed the pace and the performances. It's a slow burner but engaging. I do recommend it.

Some things you just cant understand. You see the list of actors in an espionage/political mini-series, you realize that one of the all time greats stars in it and therefore you expect a viewing that could be short of epic (while it shouldn't be) but still it will be awesome to watch.
And then you watch it and can't comprehend how the script is so bad and how the direction is so all over the place.
While the main plot is not bad as a concept, I am wondering what the producers were thinking when they read the script and chose the director.
This could have been a HBO level TV mini series. Its a flop instead, that us worth watching merely because of the cast involved. Netflix has dropped the ball. Again.

It was an enjoyable show, though the pacing lagged somewhat in the middle. However, the final episodes were engaging and held my attention much more. The series featured a well-regarded cast, good performances, and a storyline that felt plausible and important. As with most films and shows, there were moments that required some suspension of disbelief, so it wasn't flawless-but then again, what is these days? Ultimately, it delivered on its primary purpose: entertainment.
Rather than relying solely on others' opinions, I encourage you to watch it yourself. With only six episodes, it's a worthwhile experience, and you may find your own perspective on it.

...and that's the long and short of it. No, it isn't a 10, and but it certainly isn't a 1/10.
There's nothing stand out about the plot, and no edge of the seat moments. As others have said, the confusion that de Niro's character suffers from is hammy, clumsy, overdone and overly-repeated... and it adds nothing to the plot. It's just an annoyance to watch.
Plemmons is ok - not one of his better roles but his portrayal is fine. As is De Niro, just fine in his role but nothing special - sometimes even a little one dimensional (though the script may be to blame for that).
Angela Bassett is woeful though, unbelievable as a sitting president. Again that may be down to the script - her character trying to push urgency with no real necessity behind it. "I'm holding a press conference in 2 days so you need results by then" is the same line used in 70's police series/ films, where the Captain shouts "You've got 48 hours or it's your badge".
It was watchable, but I managed to follow the whole thing while working at home.
Just a bit average really.

Zero Day is a gripping and suspenseful series that stands out with its captivating storyline and stellar performances, especially from Robert De Niro. Set in a high-stakes environment where secrets and betrayal are at the forefront, the show does an excellent job of building tension and intrigue throughout. De Niro's portrayal of his character adds layers of complexity, grounding the narrative with his trademark depth. While the pacing may feel deliberate at times, it effectively adds to the build-up of suspense.
The series touches on timely themes of power, deception, and the fine line between justice and revenge, making it relevant and thought-provoking. The writing is sharp, with each episode weaving a rich tapestry of mystery and drama. The overall production quality is high, and the direction keeps you on edge, urging you to keep watching.
While the show may not offer an entirely groundbreaking plot, it's undeniably entertaining and keeps you invested until the very end. Overall, Zero Day is an intense, engaging series that will appeal to fans of thrillers, offering a solid 8/10 for its performances, storytelling, and tension-building.

Zero Day could have been a decent two-hour movie, but instead it feels like it drags on forever. The plot leaves so many loose ends that you stop caring about how things tie together. It keeps throwing in twists just for the sake of it, and most of them do not even make sense or add anything important.
There are way too many characters, and most of them do not need to be there. They just clutter the story and make it harder to stay interested. Important moments only happen because of random luck or huge coincidences, not because of anything the characters actually do.
The cast is full of talented actors, but they are completely wasted. Robert De Niro especially looks like he showed up just to cash a check. It is hard to feel anything for any of the characters because the show never really slows down to build real connections or show the seriousness of what is happening.
Zero Day had potential, but in the end it feels hollow and forgettable.

Opens well, gets the hook sequence underway quite quickly, but then subsides into the standard formula of who was it and conspiracies that are going to play out til the last episode. It's slick but not intelligent. There's enough to keep you watching to see where its going, De Niro is great, but it just feels too cheesy. I'm impressed by location shots and I get it references current political sentiment in a benign sort of way. It also is an easy one to see telegraphed character moves.
Some scenes are a bit altruistic, which don't seem to gel with the real worlds happening of the story, but overall it's one of they few new stories that you will keep going until you while the mystery of who done it, and the key characters multiple facades come undone.

Zero Day is lightly intriguing, fairly tame, and carries a timeless feel that works in its favor. There's an air of mystery that keeps things moving, and while it never reaches edge-of-your-seat levels, I wouldn't label it as "dull" either. The pacing is steady, the writing isn't half-bad, and there's just enough intrigue to keep you guessing.
Robert De Niro delivers a strong performance-no surprise there-but I had a hard time buying him as a former president. He's compelling, but something about his presence doesn't fully sell the idea of him having once led the country. Still, the show doesn't lean too heavily on that angle, so it doesn't derail the experience.
As a conspiracy thriller, Zero Day sets up an intriguing mystery but never fully leans into the paranoia or high stakes that could have made it more gripping. The twists keep things moving, but they feel more procedural than truly surprising. It's an easy watch, but it lacks the gravitas that could have made it feel more substantial.
Overall, Zero Day delivers a polished, well-paced mystery that holds your attention without demanding too much from it. If you're looking for a thriller with a classic feel and a steady sense of intrigue, it's worth checking out-just don't expect it to push the genre in any bold new directions.

I watched the 8 part series in one evening. DeNero is DeNero and carries the retired president role very well.
The only "flaw" if you could call it that was Jesse Plemens as his sidekick. He just didn't do it for me although he's very good actor, just not my cup of tea for this one.
The premise is very current politically other than the suspect being Russians. As the USA is now switching allies, in real life, the movie industry will be hard pressed to find bette villains.
The sets are wonderful and if there was AI, it was very very well done.
Dan Stevens is just so amazing an actor that is easy to hate which shows how wonderful he was as Even Green. I almost didn't recognize him.
DeNero produced this series. He did well with the supporting cast being seasoned professionals.
Enjoy!

This is the best out of Netflix in a Looooong time for me. And how the hell is Angela Bassett 66 years old ??? She is Smoking Hot.
I enjoyed the series, mostly i felt this could and can and is actually happening already in USA today, with Trump and Musk and the attack on the democracy and proud Boys and BLM and riots.
Its just that Americans dont see it.
Open your eyes and witness the dismantling of the state, the transfer of wealth and power from the middle class, to the ultra rich and their friends.
Goodbye America.
It was nice knowing you, and i really enjoyed your company. Now i am off to sell my Tesla and invest in Europe.

The show is captivating and has practical view on how cyber crime is manifested. Many technical connotations are true to industry standards. However, the series is beyond that. It is an engaging watch due to Mr. De Niro's acting abilities. Rest of the cast are decent but it's all De Niro who keeps you glued to to the series!
The underwhelming aspects are within the storyline which is preachy and wastes substantial amount of time on hero worship. It seems that everything revolves around one person who can save the world. I felt with a strong and experienced ensemble cast, you could have wished more nuanced and layered storyline beyond the technical jargon and predictable plot twists.

I watched all 6 episodes in 1 sitting. Kept me wanting more all the way through. I normally sleep by the 3rd episode, but it kept me going. Strong acting by all. I would however not go as far as calling it a classic, maybe because I've seen much better from De Niro. The pacing was good, episodes not too short, not too long. It does feel a bit rushed in the end. Maybe another 2 episodes would have been better. I dont forsee a 2nd season, though i think it would be great. If you liked the series your honor, definately you will enjoy this series. Overall a good 5 hrs well spent. From South Africa and no Land Grabs here.
This six-part miniseries is definitely worth watching. Visually impressive and built around a chillingly relevant concept, it tells the story of a massive hacker-terror attack that shuts down the entire electricity and IT infrastructure of the U. S. in under a minute-with catastrophic consequences. Thousands die, society collapses into chaos, and you can't help but wonder: What if this really happened? What if it happens again?
Robert De Niro delivers a strong performance, as does the rest of the cast. The acting is consistently solid, and the show keeps a steady pace. Still, something was missing for me. The tension never quite reached its full potential, and by the end, I felt like the story held back just a bit too much. It was gripping-but not gripping enough.
Each episode landed at a steady 7/10 for me, and that's also where my overall rating lands. A good watch with a strong concept and great production value, but the storytelling could've pushed harder to make it truly unforgettable.

Despite my previous review, I now have watched the entire "limited series," and it is much better than I expected. I found it very impressive in that it attempted, successful or not, in addressing the issues of our present and ongoing political climate. Bob Dylan wrote and sang a song called "Dignity." In this movie "dignity" is personified by fictional ex-President George Mullen, and by great actor Robert De Niro. Essential actor Jesse Plemons should be given much credit, and Joan Allen as well. Hard to give such credits for a character like House Speaker Dreyer, but Matthew Modine did very well also. The film was very well scripted and directed. Is it a "fantasy" construct? Well sure, but that's what fiction and movies are. But sometimes that's how we get the truth. Some folks here object to movies that they think are adverse to their political allegiances, but . . . Oh well.
"Zero Day" - Netflix ( filmed prior to 2024 election)
What totally impressed me with this movie is watching De Niro run down a flight of a curved staircase without holding on to the banister AND swimming and running as much as he did in this move at the age of 81 .... way to go Bobby.
As this 6 part series has just started today on NF I dont want to give too much away but will only admit to one thing. I was hoping there would be a very significant message sent by this series and I think it managed it fairly well. I sort of can relate it to the movie ""Dont Look Up" in many ways but not with the comedic over tones.
The message is one we may not want to think is possible but very well could be ... the enemy very well could be from within.
I still didnt understand the birdfeeder angle .. anyone?
Since I started to watch and now finished the rating has gone up from a 6 to a 6.4 but I have given it a 7.

This series had so much potential -- the premise is wonderful and really hooks you right off the bat. It's very topical as well, so you'd think there'd be a lot of material to work with. But that's where the series actually falls flat. The performances are just fine -- no one's going to win an award here, but DeNiro, Basset, and Plemons are all great actors, and no one turns in a bad performance per se. But the script itself is just woefully poor. At no time does this series really hook you as a thriller, make you feel a connection to this plot or these characters the way it should, or give you any sense of real political stakes. It just falls flat, and in the end feels like wasted potential -- and wasted time.

The main premise of this show is that of the review title.
It's an engaging thriller that makes some intriguing points and by all means, does it well. It peaks your interest and it does it through top acting and reasonably good cinematography.
But what it isn't is anything more. Potential strong plot points are either undone by sloppy plot holes or lack of clarity come the end. Multiple moments that felt like they were building towards a great climax also frequently petered out into mediocrity.
Overall the series was done well. A great cast performance mixed with reasonably good writing, storytelling and cinematography produces what we have here in Zero Day.
It's nice, but I wouldn't say it's more than that.

That was pretty nice surprise, I'd say. Think "Designated Survivor", but way less dumb.
US is hit by a massive cyberattack, and a charismatic ex-president picks up the bill in head of a powerful commission to find the culprits.
While "super virus" was a bit dumb (despite actors spouting very competent and relevant tech terms every now and then, indicating actual IT experts were involved, which I really like), and... It's Robert De Niro. Of course he gave a stellar performance and every other actor on the set a lesson or two.
I liked the whole show and I also liked that it's not too long. Of course, there was a bit too many "looking over yonder, worry and wonder" moments, but such filler is pretty much standardized for steaming platform shows nowadays.
Rest read like a good novel.

STAR RATING: ***** Brilliant **** Very Good *** Okay ** Poor * Awful
George Mullen (Robert De Niro) is a former president of America, who hit a downward spiral after the death of his son. Estranged from his daughter, Alexandra (Lizzy Caplan), with whom he disagrees on policy, he suddenly finds his entire being plunged into chaos when America's entire critical infrastructure is attacked, and the current serving President Mitchell (Angel Bassett) implements a 'Zero Day' order, where citizen's individual civil liberties and freedoms are temporarily suspended, and Mullen is assigned to get to the bottom of it.
In a modern age where technology controls so much, and we are dependent on it for so much of our everyday needs and demands, a project like Zero Day is certainly very prescient, and has a genuinely nightmarish tinge to it, especially when you consider it's power over life and death, as this series highlights. Lesli Linka Glatter's Netflix production has an all star cast, from the likes of De Niro, Bassett, as well as Jesse Plemons, Matthew Modine and Bill Camp, and, at the very least, makes the most of them.
With a largely older cast, it's clearly not aimed primarily at a younger, more frenzied audience, used to a more flashy, frenetic pace, and needs time to marinate and sink in with it's audience, even at a fairly succinct six episodes. So if nothing else, it's refreshingly different, even if some of the early dialogue is a little corny and theatrical. In the lead role, as an elder statesman less capable of physical intimidation, De Niro carries everything with his presence, a cold, uncompromising glare that gets the same effect, along with a supporting cast that are not wasted.
It's a present day concept, paced towards an older audience, resulting in a strange but successful result, with a slightly hackneyed but satisfying payoff that just about makes it worth it. ***
