Alberto Olmo and Eléa Rochera in Mala influencia (2025)

It's bad alright

Mala Pelicula would have been a more appropriate name for this film. Look, I went into Mala Influencia expecting scandal, suspense, maybe a dramatic betrayal or two-and what I got was an over-filtered fever dream that thinks it's smarter than it is. If you've ever wondered what would happen if a Lifetime movie and an Instagram influencer's highlight reel had a baby, this is it.

The leads do their best, but they're let down by dialogue that sounds like it was pulled from a TikTok argument and plot twists that can be spotted from a mile away. The pacing drags in the middle and rushes the ending, leaving key motivations murky and unresolved.

Waste of time

I don't usually write reviews, but I just had to. I knew going into the movie that it wasn't going to be some masterpiece, obviously. But this was just bad. It felt like it was all over the place and going in different directions (not in a good way). It seemed like every other scene was a new party. There was no substance to this film and I was bored a few different times. The acting could've been better from both leads, but I thought that the actor who played the Dad and the actress who played Eros's friend were better.

I just didnt believe anything in this movie and didnt connect with anything. The story had an interesting premise but it just wasn't made well so it didnt work out. As far as any of the mystery went, because the film didn't rope me in and make me feel anything for anyone in it, it just fell flat for me. Especially the ending.

Again, I wasn't expecting a masterpiece. So usually I rate this type of films with less strictness than others, but this was just bad. Very forgettable and felt like a waste of time.

A big let down

I watched the movie, expecting it to be similar to 'Through My Window' or 'My Fault' both of which I quite enjoyed. This, however...I have no idea what this even was. The beginning looked promising, if a little absurd, but as the movie moved (or should I say dragged) forward the story became lamer and lamer and it became obvious, that it wouldn't even come close to what I was expecting. The dialogues, along with the plot were emotionless and often very random, the ending was rushed and empty. When the movie ended I sat in silence, trying to process what had I just watched. If you only take one advice from me, let it be this one: this movie is a pointless watch. It has little to no depth, and you won't ever get back that 1h48min you'd spent watching it. A big let down in my opinion.

How many clichés do you want...?

Mala Influencia: Yes.

I'm speechless. How can something like this ever made it to Netflix?

Rich Girl, Bad Boy, a parent that's against everything, a plot that isn't even worth the name plot, weird dialogues and choices made by (shallow) characters that don't make any sense, 2000 scenes weirdly cut together so you get every cliché out of every 'romance' story that ever existed...

I'm not sure who got paid for putting that on Netflix, but yeah, here it is.

I really feel deeply sorry for the actors (and the guys behind the cameras) who at least tried to make it a story that you want to watch. But no chance with that kind of writing...

Thank God I fell asleep for the last 20 minutes, at least something positive.

Bad influence is the review vouching this movie

I've seen some bad movies in my life, but this one? This one is a masterclass in chaos. It's not that I'm a film snob-heck, I'm a Vampire Diaries fan, so my standards are flexible-but even I have limits.

Who funded this? Who read the script and said, "Yes, let's go all in"? I have questions.

The leads have the chemistry of two damp sponges. The romance? I've felt more sparks watching two strangers avoid eye contact on public transport.

The scenes are stitched together like a school project-using glitter glue and confusion. Plot points pop up like they matter, then vanish forever. Emotional arcs? Character growth? Not here, honey.

And then there's the ending. The glorious, baffling, award-winningly terrible ending. It's as if the writers said, "Surprise! None of this made sense anyway," and just walked off the set.

Save your time. Or don't-maybe you need a new low bar to appreciate other films.

Simply Bad

Bad Influence isn't predictable - it's just bad. The script lacks coherence, the acting is weak, and the ending is so ridiculous it's cringe-worthy. It creates no tension, doesn't hook you, and leaves you with nothing. A complete waste of time.

Bad Influence AKA Bad Influence on My Sanity

This movie wanted to be better than it was - desperately.

The two protagonists - Eros and Reese - are the archetypal "Bad Boy and Good Girl." However, their depictions could not have been more lackluster if they tried.

Eros is the furthest from a bad boy I've seen in a long while. Even trying to make the actor ride a motorcycle and go to jail still did not help this man make Eros the bad boy he was intended to be.

I think the largest issue with his character is that we only know pieces of him. We are never given the whole story. Even when Reese tries to ask him questions, he completely dismisses her. Which ultimately made him more aloof and standoffish than a bad boy.

As for Reese, while the good girl act was portrayed fair enough, she was completely lacking in depth. Other than knowing she dances ballet, we are given nothing else about what she loves to do or what she aspires to be when she's older. While they do show us her performing ballet, there's never a part in the movie where she says, "dancing is my passion." Thus, resulting in her being completely one-dimensional.

Due to these character choices, when they eventually "love" one another, to me, it is completely unfathomable. It is genuinely nothing more than infatuation.

This is proven further during intense scenes where Reese's life is put at risk, and Eros doesn't even react, much less show he cares. Even her father is completely emotionless throughout her stalking and bullying harassment.

So, how are we to believe that they love her when they don't show it during her hardships?

Lastly, aside from the uninspired love interests, the plot itself is severely flawed. Though some things are "resolved," like her stalker, the reasoning behind why it happened doesn't make any real sense. It seriously could not have been less thought-out. In addition, her bullying was completely unresolved...we never find out why it happened in the first place, much less get the satisfying retribution to those who had been harassing her. Resulting in the end being completely unsatisfying.

And, that's what this movie was in one word: unsatisfying. I hate to say it, but I cannot imagine anyone liking this. I cannot truly find ONE redeemable facet about it. It was simply bad.

Makes no sense

It started fine but as the film goes on, it made me more and more annoyed. The plot is a disaster, and this "bad influence" guy is the only interesting character in the whole film. The rest of the characters are very weak and leave no great impression. I'm pretty sure, I won't remember in a few day any of the details. It's been a long time since I watched something so bad.

I still can't understand that if she's bullied and threatened, instead of calling the police or hiring a private detective, the father hires just this random "bad" guy. I'm half way through but had to stop watching. It was too annoying to continue.

Bad Movie!

The lamest reason to watch a movie - because it's on Netflix - strikes again, and I thought "Bad Influence" would be mostly hilariously bad.

Let me start with some positives. Despite a problematic screenplay, to say the least, Alberto Olmo and Eléa Rochera deliver solid performances as Eros and Reese, the former a bodyguard who must protect the latter heiress from a mysterious stalker. While their relationship as written and executed isn't good, Olmo and Rochera do their best to make their characters work.

Beatriz Sastre's cinematography isn't half bad, either. Many scenes looked beautiful thanks to Sastre's work, which I can always appreciate.

For the rest of the unironic positives, Chloé Wallace's directing was impressive, and a few emotional moments landed.

However, the best thing I can say about this film is that the first half is a goldmine for hilariously bad moments. Here is where I begin discussing the negatives, but I'll dedicate this paragraph to focusing on the "so bad, it's good" negatives. Exclusively in the first half of this 1-hour and 48-minute film, I found myself laughing a lot, mainly because of the dialogue, which I'll get to in a minute. Many lines had me baffled at how they made it to the screen - this is not how normal people speak, plain and simple. I was having the time of my life hearing some of the worst dialogue I've ever heard, and that's what I'll remember first and foremost...

...if it wasn't for the fact that the second half was one of the most boring movies I've seen all year. Chloé Wallace and Diana Muro's screenplay is astonishingly weak. The narrative it creates never got me invested in Eros and Reese's relationship, and despite committed performances, I never felt their chemistry. The emotional moments that worked were when I did feel their connection, but about one or two scenes failed to make it work. As a bonus, the screenplay is confused about whether to focus on the central love story or the stalker that caused the movie's events in the first place. Even when they focus on who the stalker is, it's not worth the wait. Oh, and the dialogue is terrible!

It's time to go back to the boredom. The second half tested my patience in a way that only the worst movies do, going into cliches that aren't a significant problem, but the film handles them so weakly that they become an issue. I already mentioned the anti-climatic reveal of the stalker, but the ending also doesn't know what note to leave the audience with. No spoilers, but it tries to be both sad and uplifting, but I ended up feeling neither. I wasn't invested enough in this story to care enough, but the tedium didn't help.

Can we talk more about the central relationship? I should care about Eros and Reese, at the very least. I feel bad for Olmo and Rochera because, once more, they are trying their best to make their characters believable. Outside of two scenes, I failed to feel their romantic spark. What's even sadder is I had one thought very often: why don't I watch "My Fault: London" again? That film theoretically should have been what "Bad Influence" was because it has the same basic layup. In that movie, Noah and Nick come together due to circumstances out of their control and fall in love because the "bad boy" is charming. Then, a threat looms in the background, leading to a third-act climax that, depending on its execution, can or cannot work. That's the key word, though: execution. Strong directing, writing, and cinematography complement Asha Banks and Matthew Broome's magnificent performances in that film, which "Bad Influence" wishes it could do.

One more thing: the choices they made for music were shockingly awful. I'm not one to rag on the music of a film unless I feel it stands out, and this is one of those situations where it did. I'm unsure if it's only a me thing, but I shouldn't be able to notice it.

"Bad Influence" lived up to its title. It's a bad, sometimes enjoyable, but more or less exhausting watch that isn't worth your time. I'm excited for "Your Fault: London," but there's no way I'm watching any potential sequel for this.

Technically, the acting, directing, and cinematography are all strong, but the screenplay weighs the technical score down to a 6/10.

For the enjoyment score, the "it's on Netflix" excuse is not one to use for this movie. Watch "My Fault: London" instead. 3/10. I'm interested in seeing what Olmo and Rochera do next, but not for a sequel, unfortunately.

Lost opportunity to make a 10-rated movie

Overall, I didn't consider it a bad movie to watch. At no point during the film did I feel like stopping or regret giving it a chance. However, it's not something grand or worth watching again. I also wouldn't recommend it to anyone. That said, the settings and editing are quite interesting and are strong points of the film. Eros, although predictable, plays his role well. I really liked both Eros's and Reese's friends. I liked the costumes in many scenes. Reese's acting is terrible. This can really compromise the film. If they had cast a good actress for the role, the movie would be better rated.

Not sure what I just watched...

I really don't know how to express how ridiculous this movie was. There are so many good films coming out of Spain and this unfortunately was not one of them.

And I feel that the actors are going to get the brunt of this negativity but it really starts with the writing.

I don't know why anyone thought the plot was going to be spectacular. But then it just really went downhill as the movie went on.

Especially towards the end when the story kind of finally unfolds it seemed very forced and quick.

I don't find the love interests believable and I feel like all the characters had lots of drama.

I mean if you got some time to kill and you're just curious then see it but don't go around changing any plans just to see it.

Dark Romance lovers will love it!

If you're a sucker for slow-burn tension, forbidden love, and characters who change each other forever, Bad Influence is a must-watch. It's not just a teen romance-it's a story about finding light in unexpected places. I'll be rewatching it for that rooftop scene alone.

Bad Influence completely took me by surprise-in the best way possible! What started as a classic "rich girl meets bad boy" story quickly turned into something far more intense, emotional, and meaningful.

The chemistry between Reese and Eros is undeniably electric. From their very first scene together, you can feel the tension simmering beneath the surface. Eros isn't just your typical brooding "bad boy" - he's layered, damaged, and unexpectedly gentle when it comes to Reese. And Reese? She's not just a spoiled rich girl; she's brave, witty, and slowly transforms right before our eyes. Watching these two collide was like watching fire meet gasoline-dangerous, raw, and impossible to look away from.

Visually, the film is stunning. The warm tones of Valencia create the perfect backdrop for this whirlwind romance, and Chloé Wallace's direction brings a dreamy, almost poetic touch to every frame. The soundtrack also deserves a shoutout-it pulls you deeper into every emotion, from heartbreak to longing to the softest moments of love.

What I loved most was how the film didn't shy away from the messiness of love. It's not all fairy tales here. It's chaotic, painful, and sometimes toxic-but that's what made it real. And let's be honest, we all secretly love a little bit of drama when it's wrapped in this much beauty and intensity.

Good grief

It was terrible. It didn't flow, the script was awkward and I am not entirely sure what the story was trying to convey. Romance, teenage, mystery or thriller???. It was all over the place. The characters were shallow and were as real as a Gucci handbag from Hong Kong ladies market. I never write reviews but this had to be written as it was so bad. I had to warn others. You will never get the time back. Much better stuff out of Spain to watch. Was the script and plot being written as they filmed? I can't even describe the acting at times. Wooden makes it sound good. I know this is the result of someone's creative baby...but it is really bad and the end...well the conclusion very cliched. You won't be surprised...just relieved it's over!

I watched this to improve my Spanish and all I got was a lousy movie

Good grief! What did I just watch? I just moved to Spain and am trying to improve my Spanish, so I watch Spanish shows and films in Spanish with Spanish subtitles. And since I'm not that fluent yet I sometimes miss some context, which is usually fine but with this movie it seemed like I was missing a lot more. Well, turns out that's not on me, the context is simply missing entirely. 😂 It's all over the place, starting out like your standard Romeo and Julie, good girl/bad boy story but with random unexplained threatening messages being sent to the girl. Threats that no one seems to take particularly seriously? Then there's a collage of parties. And then, the big "plot twist" that isn't a plot twist at all because there was no plot. At that point I was laughing pretty hard tbh and barely caught anything of the nonsensical ending. I can't get those 1.5ish hours back but, hey, at least I practiced my language skills a bit more. If that's not your aim, then better stay away from this disaster of a film entirely.

Bad Influence on Our Night

We all saw Mala Influencia pop up in the Netflix recommendations, and Amy thought it'd be fun to pick a Spanish-language romance thriller for movie night. At first, the premise sounded intriguing enough - romance, mystery, drama - but wow, this didn't land for any of us.

The story had potential but was just so messily handled. None of us could connect with the characters or care about what was going on. The plot tried to be deep but felt like it was constantly tripping over its own feet. Winny wasn't having it from the start - he said the characters felt hollow and the romantic chemistry was practically nonexistent. Willow, meanwhile, was just waiting for it to get steamy... and got nothing. Mimikyu, poor thing, was completely lost between trying to follow the Spanish and keep up with a plot that didn't seem to know where it was going. She honestly didn't know what to say afterward.

Amy and Tails had a full-on mini argument halfway through. Amy swore it looked good from the trailer, but Tails straight-up dozed off and woke up just in time to say, "You're never picking again." Sweet had probably the best summary of the night: "This movie feels like it was glued together by a 10th grader with glitter and vibes." The plot points show up like they matter and disappear without a trace, the emotional moments felt fake, and by the end we were all wondering what we just spent almost two hours watching.

All in all? Definitely a skip. That's two hours of our lives we're not getting back, and we're now banning Amy from choosing the next film - temporarily, at least. 😅

Rating: 2/10.

Disappointing

This was such a disappointment.

I watched a TikTok edit of Bad Influence and thought I was in for something intense and emotionally charged. The chemistry between the leads looked so promising in those clips-but wow, was that misleading.

The movie turned out to be painfully boring at times. I found myself zoning out, completely lost in the plot (or lack thereof). Half the time, I didn't even know what was happening, and not in a mysterious, intriguing way-just in a confusing, poorly executed way.

The ending felt rushed and totally underwhelming. It wasn't shocking or satisfying-it was exactly what I expected, which made it even more frustrating. They really could've done so much more to develop the characters' emotions and the overall concept of the story. There were moments that could have hit hard emotionally, but they just didn't land at all.

Honestly, this felt like a total waste of time. My expectations were way too high thanks to social media, and the movie didn't come close to delivering. If you're thinking about watching it because of an edit you saw-don't. Save yourself the letdown.

Actual Orphan's standpoint - a good watch

A Spanish Coming-of-Age Gem Worth Watching American viewpoint: Released in 2025 on Netflix, Bad Influence (Mala Influencia), directed by Chloé Wallace, is a Spanish romantic thriller that weaves an erotic, coming-of-age narrative around themes of privilege, protection, and personal redemption. Adapted from a viral Wattpad story, this film follows Reese (Eléa Rochera), a wealthy teen ballerina stalked by an unknown threat, and Eros (Alberto Olmo), an orphaned young man with a troubled past hired as her bodyguard. With a runtime of approximately 100 minutes, the film stars Enrique Arce as Reese's overprotective father, Bruce, and Mirela Balic as Peyton, a magnetic friend who adds spice to the social dynamics. While not without flaws, Bad Influence offers an engaging, visually captivating exploration of youth, desire, and makeshift families that's worth a watch.

The plot centers on Reese, a privileged yet rebellious teen whose life is upended by a mysterious stalker. Her father, Bruce, a millionaire with a penchant for control, hires Eros, a brooding outsider who's navigated foster care and juvenile detention, to protect her. What unfolds is a forbidden romance between Reese and Eros, layered with themes of class disparity, personal trauma, and the search for belonging. The film doesn't shy away from heavy topics-being orphaned, navigating young adulthood without guidance, and the weight of societal expectations-but it handles them with a light touch, blending erotic tension with coming-of-age introspection. This balance keeps the narrative from feeling overly grim, though some plot points, like the stalker's identity, resolve predictably.

Cinematographer Gabe C. Elder deserves praise for the film's visual allure. The camera lingers on intimate moments-Reese's ballet rehearsals, Eros's motorcycle rides through sunlit Spanish streets-with a dreamy, almost tactile quality. Soft lighting and a warm color palette amplify the erotic undertones, while dynamic angles during tense scenes, like Eros and Reese's clandestine encounters, heighten the thriller elements. The cinematography elevates what could have been a formulaic drama, making even the cliché moments-like the inevitable "rich girl, bad boy" trope-feel fresh and immersive. A standout sequence, where Reese and Eros ride a motorcycle through a bustling city, pulses with youthful defiance and raw emotion, showcasing the film's ability to blend style with substance.

The cast delivers solid performances, though the chemistry between Rochera and Olmo is the heart of the film. Rochera captures Reese's blend of vulnerability and stubbornness, portraying a young woman caught between her father's control and her own desires. Olmo's Eros is brooding yet layered, his rough edges softened by moments of tenderness that hint at his longing for connection. Enrique Arce, known for Money Heist, brings gravitas to Bruce, though his character leans heavily on the "overbearing parent" archetype. Mirela Balic shines as Peyton, stealing scenes with her sharp wit and charisma, reminiscent of her role in Elite. However, the supporting cast, including Reese's friend Lily (played by an underutilized actress), feels underdeveloped, with some characters serving as mere plot devices.

Critics have called Bad Influence a "stilted TV drama" or a "TikTokified" misfire, pointing to its reliance on familiar tropes and uneven pacing (Yahoo, Rotten Tomatoes). While it's true that the film scatters obvious narrative markers-wealth gaps, teenage gossip, forbidden love-it still resonates through its exploration of forming chosen families. Eros's backstory as an orphan who finds purpose in protecting Reese mirrors real-life experiences of those who build bonds from shared struggles. This theme, though not deeply explored, adds emotional weight to the romance.

At its core, Bad Influence is a decent flick that doesn't reinvent the genre but delivers an engaging, visually striking story. It's not for everyone-those seeking originality may find its clichés grating-but fans of romantic thrillers or Spanish dramas like Elite will appreciate its blend of sensuality and heart. The film's strength lies in its ability to make heavy topics accessible, wrapped in a glossy package that's easy to binge. For a Saturday night escape, Bad Influence is a worthy watch that lingers in its quiet moments of connection.

Another bodyguard (fantasy)

And bad boy of sorts too - no pun intended. You may be into that sort of thing - and the love/romance that is growing (and glowing?) is quite ... well if you would call it cliche I don't think many would dispute that. Even if the movie acknowledges it a little bit.

Not sure if the steaming level (that's what I call the erotic factor of the movie) is enough for some ... or too much for others. But your (secret) fantasy may get fulfilled ... the movie has a bit of story going for itself though. So it is not just the ... forbidden affair or whatever you would call it. Unfortunately this is not to a degree that will help too much ... still I have seen worse movies/thrillers/dramas ... "love movies". The movie certainly will not be a bad influence on you ...

yes bad is the word

Bad influence had something going for it. Its based on a wattpad story and those are usual pretty good but I don't think this one translated very well. Reese a highschool not highschool woman has a stalker. So her father that seems wealthy for an unknown reason hires an ex con for some reason to protect his daughter. You know instead of hire maybe someone that could be trusted. Anyway you know what happens when two young people like that get together. Sadly this film is just boring and goes no where. The stalker stuff looks like it could but just becomes lack luster. This movie gets a five because the acting was alright but its just a let down.
