The directors chose to set the story during the Donald Trump US Presidency, i.e. when a wall between the USA and Mexico was in the process of being built, to highlight the resurgence of borders in the world. On top of that, a radio broadcast at the beginning of the movie references the independence declaration of Catalonia of 2017.
Because of the small budget, there was no time to adjust the light for every setup, so it was decided to set up one light for the interrogation room, and it was never moved afterwards.
The idea for the movie came from all the times the Venezuelian directors had to go through US Customs, as well as stories from their friends and families when going through this ordeal.
To keep the audience on the edge of their seats, the directors wanted them to feel like they're with the characters in the interrogation room. As a result, camera movement was kept to a minimum.
The crew had two cameras: one to shoot the customs agents, one to shoot the couple.
