A film that captures a perspective on many of the events in Venezuela and the different personalities that people adopt.
"Er relajo der Loro" is a quite interesting proposal because it encompasses countless references to some important events in the history of Venezuela, but all from the perspective of a parrot, one of the common birds in many Venezuelan households, adding nuances to its characters which produce a set of reflective messages that stand out at all times. It is an adventure full of comedy, drama, and anecdotes that gain relevance as the minutes go by.
It should be mentioned that it is not a perfect movie, nor does it try to be, but it does merit in providing a constructive social critique, reflections, and a metaphor that, beneath all that narrative comedy, carries significant weight. The film has some notable details, such as certain sequences shot from the parrot's perspective, which are attractive and can be effective.
It is a movie that can easily divide critics, whether due to its execution, elaborate era, resources, themes present in it, and visual aspects, from filming to special effects. However, John Petrizzelli wants to contribute something beyond that, something worth remembering this production for. That is why his script has those alternatives that encourage analysis for the viewer, of course, everything will depend on your expectations and attention. The director applied various sets from different movies, but adding his personal style.
"Er relajo der Loro" certainly has its negative points, whether it's the lack of solid context, the conventional moments, continuity errors, a large percentage of special effects, the depth in many characters, narrative arguments, and some performances that could have been better executed. At that point, I can highlight the appearances of Luis Gerónimo Abreu, Carolina Torres, and the voice work of Emilio Lovera, who covers the entire comedic focus and, despite everything, fulfills his role.
The film covers reflective themes such as despair, poverty, the future, democracy, dictatorship, the power of the people, the consequences of poorly managed fortune leading to ruin, family disunity, the pressure exerted by politics, negativity, the results of avoiding the doctor, classism, hope, exploitation of the low-income sector, opportunities, and above all, karma.
Without a doubt, it is a movie that could have been better; many people might consider it "bad" or "boring," but it has sustainable information or criticism. A grain of sand for Venezuelan cinema.
